DatterBoy Posted February 10, 2005 Posted February 10, 2005 Rod, keepin this thread alive! Weathering looks too clean to me, like it has been done by watercolor. needs more dirty streaks n such. Check the M0 stuff. I know their weathering is not perfect either, but it gives it a good look. :Dat
Sundown Posted February 10, 2005 Posted February 10, 2005 In my opinion, the weathering looks a little too heavy... not that it's too dark in any place, but that it's all over, in large splotches. Real weathering tends to be much lighter overall, with much smaller, darker streaks and smudges in a few select places. Some of the heavy weathering out there isn't particularly realistic, even though that seems to be the aim. IMO, a well weathered CG valk should look something like a wmcheng model. =) -Al
Rodavan Posted February 11, 2005 Posted February 11, 2005 Thanks for comments , I will play and post results Sundown - I can only wish I had that much skill I have been looking @ the low vis valks in the toy section , and trying to get the same colour scheme. Please let me know if it should be darker or more greyish or do I have to start again
Neova Posted February 11, 2005 Posted February 11, 2005 Rodavan, Can I ask for a favor? Would you be able to render all the custom squadron colors? Such as Engima, Blue Rose (all 3 versions), Angel Birds, and etc... and don't forget the Cannon Fodder! It would be great to have some reference pictures for the model and customizing guys! also, it would help us visualize pre-custom colors to see how they would look.
Rodavan Posted February 11, 2005 Posted February 11, 2005 Neova - If the guys can supply me with good refrence material , and a bit of time ....I will could give it a bash.
Aztek Posted February 12, 2005 Author Posted February 12, 2005 Rod, Your lowvis valk's scheme looks spot on. I think your renderer accents the panel lines a lil too much, but I'm sure the production renderer would take care of that with the raytracing and such. As far as the textures go, search the www.af.mil site, specifically aerial refueling pics. They have awesome shots, well lit, a variety of paint jobs and super high res (at least as far as aviation websites go). It gives a good sample of the diff levels of cleanliness aircraft have. Lemme know if your not finding the shots I'm describing here. I'll link you some if you can't. For everyone else, af.mil has a lot of good ref material especially from the maintenance perspective (ground shots) and in flight perspective (AR shots)
The_WOZ Posted February 13, 2005 Posted February 13, 2005 Rodavan, your valk is amazing! But... the antennas on the head latch are missing
Rodavan Posted February 15, 2005 Posted February 15, 2005 (edited) Fisrt atempt @ connan fodder colour scheme Edited February 15, 2005 by Rodavan
Gammera Posted February 16, 2005 Posted February 16, 2005 (edited) What type of material are you using Rodavan? I think it is way too shiny (that cannon fodder looks like a penny) I use a blinn it is still kinda shinny but not at the same time. Adding dirt to a specular map also seems to work real nice. I would be willing to give you any help I can because you defiantly have the best sculpt out of any of us! Edited February 16, 2005 by Gammera
Rodavan Posted February 16, 2005 Posted February 16, 2005 Thanks Gammera I will change the "shinyness" , but is a cannon fodder brown or more orange ? I will do a render a post later
Gammera Posted February 16, 2005 Posted February 16, 2005 It should be the color of chocolate milk or of a hershy bar.
Sundown Posted February 16, 2005 Posted February 16, 2005 You folks really should take a look at something like Brazil, if you happen to be using 3DS Max. Brazil's a Global Illumination renderer that does snazzy stuff like caustics and HDRI. Photorealistic rendering. And I think the free learning version is still available. http://www.splutterfish.com -Al
cobywan Posted February 16, 2005 Posted February 16, 2005 I've been using the beta for Rhino. I have also been trying 3Delight. A free Renderman engine. Here is the Galactica I am doing. I have been trying to get the lighting decent. It is really hard to do in Rhino.
cobywan Posted February 16, 2005 Posted February 16, 2005 And a closeup to show off the lack of detail.
Rodavan Posted February 17, 2005 Posted February 17, 2005 I love Rhino v3 and use the basic rendering but use Cinema 4D for final renders and ploygon modelling. Cobywan - awsome model
Rodavan Posted February 17, 2005 Posted February 17, 2005 2nd render of Cannon fodder or "hershy" valk What colours helmets would pilots in the CF valk wear ?
Doktor Gonzo Posted February 17, 2005 Posted February 17, 2005 Rod: Gorgeous! Coby: Looks better than ZOIC's! Quick post of my own stuff to add: just a little demo of my rigged flight control surfaces. Please note that this is a screengrab, not a render, so don't expect "pretty": Control Surfaces

Rodavan Posted February 18, 2005 Posted February 18, 2005 Thanks , now I need to get the numbers right and then it's ready for final render. The next colour scheme is either Max & Milla( Re & Blue) or Angle Birds .
Rodavan Posted February 19, 2005 Posted February 19, 2005 Had some problems trying to light up the underside of the valk, I decided to try for a " Valk on a light table" look , I think it needs more work ............
The_WOZ Posted February 19, 2005 Posted February 19, 2005 WOW! Rodava, excellent This is just a test render of my valk using a sunlight
Gammera Posted February 20, 2005 Posted February 20, 2005 Just for the record guys the low vis skull valks do not have stripes on the nose wing of legs. just keepin it real, BTW Rodavan I have a Millia tv skin do a max and lets put them together
DatterBoy Posted February 20, 2005 Posted February 20, 2005 (edited) Rod, awesome work, always loved your valk. WOZ, post more renders, more angles, man, the detals on that thing look incredible. Would love to see more. Been trying to work on my textures. Here's a sample before I do the weathering. :Dat Edited February 20, 2005 by DatterBoy
Rodavan Posted February 21, 2005 Posted February 21, 2005 thanks guys ! Doc - I forgot ...those control surfaces looks cool The_WOZ - great job , lots of detail Datterboy - excelent , show us more , I will restart on weathering once I have all the colour scheme down. Gammera - Thanks , a milla & max combo is great idea.
DatterBoy Posted February 21, 2005 Posted February 21, 2005 More? I also want to work out the different color schemes as well as the basic layouts for all 3 modes before I do weathering. Weathering seems to be much of a challenge right now as I have no idea how to approach it properly... :Dat
mcpaz Posted February 21, 2005 Posted February 21, 2005 Great shot, Dat!!! Mmmmm.... higher res for wallp? tia, Manu
DatterBoy Posted February 22, 2005 Posted February 22, 2005 (edited) Here ya go. :Dat Edited February 22, 2005 by DatterBoy
Rodavan Posted February 22, 2005 Posted February 22, 2005 Dat - excelent typhoon-2000 - nice model , it's a bit dark
DatterBoy Posted February 22, 2005 Posted February 22, 2005 (edited) Thanks Rod! More work being done. Added bump mapping since modelling in panel lines was too much for me to handle... Edited February 23, 2005 by DatterBoy
wongster Posted February 25, 2005 Posted February 25, 2005 (edited) hey all, I was wondering if anyone could get me some orthographic (schematics) for skull leader plane... or just any VF... schematics that allow for transformation into the 3 forms plane, gerwalk, bot etc.\ I'd love if someone could find one ____________________________ Wongster Edited February 25, 2005 by wongster
