Angel's Fury Posted July 23, 2004 Posted July 23, 2004 Yes indeed - Angel's FuryI started the model up yesterday , want to start with head and gun this weekend , I will them next week Wow!!! Can't wait for that!!!
Rodavan Posted August 4, 2004 Posted August 4, 2004 There isn't a lot of nice close refrence , so this is my first try @ the head of vf-19 Very rough still !
Angel's Fury Posted August 5, 2004 Posted August 5, 2004 Rodavan, I hope this helps when you do a CG GU-15? GU-15 Gunpod
The_WOZ Posted August 8, 2004 Posted August 8, 2004 Well, I have upgraded to Truespace 3.2 (free for download at Caligari's site) The next couple are from a week ago.
The_WOZ Posted August 8, 2004 Posted August 8, 2004 A closer look to the (still unfinished) main landing gear.
Aztek Posted August 22, 2004 Author Posted August 22, 2004 Looks sweet Woz, but that seat looks like a hemmorroid (sp?) magnet. Any way to soften it up?
Angel's Fury Posted August 24, 2004 Posted August 24, 2004 Looks sweet Woz, but that seat looks like a hemmorroid (sp?) magnet. Any way to soften it up? Ditto!?
kornholio73 Posted September 2, 2004 Posted September 2, 2004 hey all!! i didn't realize there were so many macross fans out there!! spent the last 2 hours looking at every single image on this thread i am in deep shock!! can't wait to see the final composite! not only a loyal macross fan but also a 3d graphics lover, i just have to start modelling one of my all-time favorites, VF-1S the movie version (my current lil RX-78 project just have to wait, heheh!),. i haven't modelled anything nearly as complicated and detailed as the images on this thread but i will give it my best shot. attached is what i have been working on for the past month in my spare time, (sorry for the off topic image but i haven't had any macross related work to show yet) c&c's are always welcome! mind-blowing work on this thread, hope it goes on forever! should pose my first VF-1S wip very soon. jawless, richard
Doktor Gonzo Posted September 3, 2004 Posted September 3, 2004 kornholio - welcome aboard! The Gundam looks excellent so far - what 3D package are you using? Looking forward to seeing your version of the VF-1!
kornholio73 Posted September 4, 2004 Posted September 4, 2004 thanks Doktor, im using Maya 6, it's got some artifacts issues, otherwise it's pretty good. i have been looking for references of vf-1's and i like the attached best so i am going to model after it, some adjustments might be nessaccary for it to be transformable tho, will update as soon as i have something to show.
kornholio73 Posted September 4, 2004 Posted September 4, 2004 i should mention that the image of the resin model i just posted can be found on the following site http://ms-room.cside.com/schneidergallery/.../VF1J/VF1J.html by hitoshi hayami
Pat S Posted September 4, 2004 Posted September 4, 2004 That's the same sculpt Toynami used for their Superposeable Robotech line. Toynami's heads are a little different though.
kornholio73 Posted September 5, 2004 Posted September 5, 2004 finally got a few hours tonight so i started my vf-1s, using hasegawa's 1/72 strike valkyrie as reference, i started modeling in fighter mode, after blocking out all of its body parts i tried a little transforming into battroid, then i realized its proportion is a bit different from what i preferred. solution: using the same body parts but modeling in battroid mode, made a few adjustments, and this is where i am at... my main objection is to follow the proportion of the resin model images i posted 2 days ago as closely as possible. c&c welcome!
The_WOZ Posted September 5, 2004 Posted September 5, 2004 (edited) Looks sweet Woz, but that seat looks like a hemmorroid (sp?) magnet. Any way to soften it up? You have just discovered what found that mechanic on the Skull one cockpit in the episode that Roy die. (Forgive my bad english) Well, I try to soften the seat but I can't do much. Anyway, I get tired of the cockpit... Edited September 5, 2004 by The_WOZ
agentex Posted September 5, 2004 Posted September 5, 2004 Wow, everything on this thread looks fantastic. Love the variations and the textures that everyone is doing. I just started modelling a valk thanks to the fantastic references on MW world and anime3d.net. Thanks alot! I'm going to post my progress so far later today but I have some questions about the xform sequence. I saw Aztek's shoulder socket and have those as references, you guys mentioned a book that has some really good references? Whats the title of the book? I've got 3 weeks to work on this project so I'd like to get the whole xform sequence done by then. Looking forward to sharing my valk with the others in this squad, top notch stuff guys! Agentex
Aztek Posted September 6, 2004 Author Posted September 6, 2004 agentex, Macross Design Works Awesome refs, pimp xform sequences. Not alot of vf-1 color and panel lining though. Do screen caps of DYRL for that. Also get scans of Hase battroid and fighter models for some really great photorealistic detailing. Woz, Nice pylons, do you have a background in aviation? Some modeled mount studs (going thru those tabs you got there) would be a nice touch.
agentex Posted September 6, 2004 Posted September 6, 2004 Wow, that books looks really nice. I'll order it after the holiday, hope it comes soon. I've been modelling the VF1s Strike (honestly not planning on doing a space kit right now). Need to add alot of detail but the structure is roughed out. I'm modelling it with the xform in mind. I'll post some pics but its really blocky right now, lemme work it tommorrow. Woz, man you are making some great progress, I've seen your whole sequence, nice work! Can't wait to see some more updates! Check out this xform from the variable... http://www.macrossworld.com/macross/magazines/mg_0398a4.jpg http://www.macrossworld.com/macross/magazines/mg_0398a5.jpg I'm using that as my primarily reference on how the xform will happen. Is the model the same as the series? Don't have Zero ep 1 handy. Agentex
agentex Posted September 7, 2004 Posted September 7, 2004 Wow, modelling a transformable valk is tough. I'm using the two references from Brian's site, the VF-1s battroid and the VF-1j fighter. I've pretty much got all the parts roughed in and am working between modes trying to figure out how its going to work together to xform. Any specialist opinions on which models these came from? Is this an xformable schematic? It doesn't seem like it, just trying to make adjustments to get it into fighter mode now. Any advice on how accurate that VF-1j schematic is to a good xform, it seems sleaker than the VF-1s battroid, I'm now modifying all my battroid parts to the size of the VF-1j then I'm going to put it back into battroid and hope it looks ok. Any advice on these comprimises? Agentex
agentex Posted September 7, 2004 Posted September 7, 2004 An example, don't mind the wireframe its not ready to get rendered yet.
agentex Posted September 7, 2004 Posted September 7, 2004 Fighter mode after I've resized the arms and legs, the rest I modelled in fighter mode to start with.
agentex Posted September 7, 2004 Posted September 7, 2004 The underside, can't wait to animate this baby!!
DatterBoy Posted September 8, 2004 Posted September 8, 2004 (edited) Very nice. One thing.. the tabs in the front on either side of the nose cone on either side just under the chestplate but above the upper legs in fighter mode... (sorry, not so technical) I believe should be extruded or jutting out a bit more. other than that, looks great! Can't wait to see that thing smoothed. :Dat Edited September 8, 2004 by DatterBoy
kornholio73 Posted September 8, 2004 Posted September 8, 2004 hey gang, have been working on my vf-1s 2 nights in a row, here is where i am so far, so far the chest and lower leg are the biggest problem areas, still not happy with the way they turned out... will post soon, later! ps, sorry for the really bad lighting..don't know much about it..heheh
agentex Posted September 8, 2004 Posted September 8, 2004 Looking good man, from what I can tell it looks like you just need to watch your proportions. Also, looks like to help you with the legs you might want to add some geometry around the far edge of the bowl shape, to give it that bump out. Also, around the nose I think you need to do the same thing towards the top. Keep up the good work, can't wait for some updates. Agentex
kornholio73 Posted September 8, 2004 Posted September 8, 2004 thanx agentex! i can't wait to animate this dude either! could you elaborate on your last comment about its proportions? which particular body parts need adjusting? one thing i am not too happy about is its chest being too flat, i tried thicken it a bit but then it looked really off in fighter mode without some scaling down...my objective is to have the final result not looking "off" in all modes without some scaling up/down saw the wip's you posted earlier, they are looking promising man! can't wait til the next update! attached is another image with one more light in the scene so maybe it'd look a bit clearer...
Doktor Gonzo Posted September 9, 2004 Posted September 9, 2004 Kornholio: nice!, and quite differently styled from the already extant valk models in this thread - so it certainly gets my vote! One quick improvement you could make is to the hips - the legs need to be a little more widely spaced, so they don't clip through the nose when the valk assumes that stance. They don't connect directly to the nose anyway - there should be some kind of a connecting strut, could be just a cylinder or whatever. Just making this small change would help a lot with the apparent proportioning of the battroid...
agentex Posted September 9, 2004 Posted September 9, 2004 Kornholio, Great! That second render is much clearer and looks great. Personally I'm in the process of rescaling all my stuff, alot of which is just going to get remodelled because of the change to fighter mode, the model has to be "sleak." On proportions: the shoulders seem alittle small and the forarms seem alittle big, also is the head a little small? I haven't modelled one so I don't really know. I'm no valk expert but these are just the things that caught my eye. Can't wait to see more stuff Kornholio, its fun working on this project for sure, especially with you guys. Agentex
