CoryHolmes Posted November 2, 2003 Posted November 2, 2003 Very nice, DatterBoy. How much of your model is based on the 1/48th?
lparisek Posted November 2, 2003 Posted November 2, 2003 Dat... Texturing aside, that model looks fantastic. Les
Doktor Gonzo Posted November 3, 2003 Posted November 3, 2003 Hey gang, Wow, I'm out traveling for a week, and a LOT of great work goes up - looks fantastic! I'll have to get down to playing catch up....
DatterBoy Posted November 3, 2003 Posted November 3, 2003 CORY: It was based almost entirely on the 1/60s I had. I didn't have any of the 1/48s and I had none of the Hasegawa model drawings so I used the Yamato 60's as my primary reference. A few things used a 1/48 as a ref, from pics, or what I understood of it (still don't own one) such as the swing bar for the legs and the joint in the upper thigh, as well as he notion of the changing/removeable air intakes. Hands were a guess at how it should look based on DYRL, but they are pretty off, I'm sure. LPARISEK Thanks man! I seriously cannot wait till I get the textures on, but not sure how that's gonna happen. My first few attempts have failed quite poorly. Hoping to get my modelling buddy to help me out, but he lives a bit far away. :Dat
CoryHolmes Posted November 3, 2003 Posted November 3, 2003 No matter what your reference, your work is absolutly amazing. Even without the textures, I'd kill to be able to model like that
mechaninac Posted November 3, 2003 Posted November 3, 2003 Alright, one more update on my Orguss Ishkick model...almost there. For those interested, I'm using IRII's 1/48 (more like 1/60 judging by the pilot) kit as reference with added detail extrapolated form the box art. Eventually I'm going to convert this to LW so that I can texture it properly and obtain "realistic" pictures, but for now it'll just have Pro-E colored surfaces.
Wolf13 Posted November 3, 2003 Posted November 3, 2003 Damn....sweet model DB. Sorry for the long absence...been pretty busy lately. Hopefuly now I'll have time to start coming by here again. Great page, Brian. Good to see everything togeather in one place
Doktor Gonzo Posted November 3, 2003 Posted November 3, 2003 Mechaniac: looks damn sweet. If that's the preliminary shading, can't wait to see the final. Dat: as always, looks killer.
DatterBoy Posted November 5, 2003 Posted November 5, 2003 Still loving that model brian. Looks so damn clean. How much rebuilding did it take after your hard drive crashed? :Dat
Brianw76 Posted November 5, 2003 Posted November 5, 2003 Thanks Dat. the main parts that had to be rebuilt were the arms, hips/intakes, hands and gunpod, plus all the textures. only finished the arms and hip/intakes so far.
Doktor Gonzo Posted November 6, 2003 Posted November 6, 2003 Thanks Dat. the main parts that had to be rebuilt were the arms, hips/intakes, hands and gunpod, plus all the textures. only finished the arms and hip/intakes so far. I like the cockpit
Doktor Gonzo Posted November 11, 2003 Posted November 11, 2003 *BUMP* C'mon guys, let's post some stuff!
mechaninac Posted November 11, 2003 Posted November 11, 2003 *BUMP*C'mon guys, let's post some stuff! Your wish is my command...or...You asked for it!
mechaninac Posted November 11, 2003 Posted November 11, 2003 And a multiview. The model is not yet finished, I still have to add a lot of small details here and there, but it's close.
Doktor Gonzo Posted November 12, 2003 Posted November 12, 2003 Pretty damn gorgeous looking. What are your plans for it?
Doktor Gonzo Posted November 13, 2003 Posted November 13, 2003 (edited) a brief update Edited November 13, 2003 by Doktor Gonzo
mechaninac Posted November 13, 2003 Posted November 13, 2003 Pretty damn gorgeous looking. What are your plans for it? Thanks for the compliment; it's always encouraging when others appreciate your work. As for plans...I don't really have any. The entire model you see is a parametric Pro Engineer assembly, and pretty much incompatible with any other software (I think Solidworks is an exception) unless I convert it to a "dumb" solid such as STEP or IGES formats, or export it to OBJ format for CGI applications; this is what I may eventually do. However, Pro E's OBJ converter leaves much to be desired as it creates some very funky surface triangulations, and requires extensive downstream clean-up to make the file an optimized mesh; if I ever do this I may yet release the model publicly. Another idea I was contemplating was to export an STL and make an SLA model of the thing in something like 1/35th scale; but getting free time and/or space on the company's machine is a difficult proposition at best. Sergio PS.: Your pilot looks great, but IMO the helmet visor should be larger towards the bottom. Other than that it's awesome.
Brianw76 Posted November 14, 2003 Posted November 14, 2003 Hey doc, looking good. Can't wait to get my hands on it! Here's what i've been up to. Making new textures for my YF-19 model.
Aztek Posted November 18, 2003 Author Posted November 18, 2003 Hey all, I have been BUTTSLAMMED with tons of work and personal hangups. I haven't touched a plastic or CG valk since I've been back from England. We have alot of ppl deployed right now, about 40 or so 'Hogs around the world (A-10's for you non military types ). So manning is a lil slim at work. I haven't forgot about the movement. I've been silently hoping most of the people on the crew have been having similar issues. I'll get it cranking again soon, life permitting. Later Az
Sideout Posted November 18, 2003 Posted November 18, 2003 I love that YF-19 pic, Brian! Its blurry and lacks detail, but those are what really make the picture special. Very realistic. Great Job!
MasamuneEd Posted November 18, 2003 Posted November 18, 2003 (edited) I'm in much the same situation as Aztek... Not deploying A-10s (I wish!) but making bloody video games! I never thought I'd get to dislike something I once loved and would've done for free... anyway... I'm planning on getting back soon tho' so hopefully I wont get distracted too much in texturing my valk. BTW Az... I'd say 'non military types' wouldn't even know what an A-10 is It seems though that Macross fans seem to have an interest in military aviation... dunno why... Masa Edited November 18, 2003 by MasamuneEd
Aztek Posted November 19, 2003 Author Posted November 19, 2003 LOL Masa, Macross was enough to get me "into" military aviation ... Best thing that ever happened to the Air Force, IMHO ...
Brianw76 Posted November 20, 2003 Posted November 20, 2003 holy hell! nice job on the textures Gammera!
lparisek Posted November 20, 2003 Posted November 20, 2003 Great work Gammera. And yes, your texturing looks pretty damn good... Awesome addition to the thread. Les
Doktor Gonzo Posted November 20, 2003 Posted November 20, 2003 Kick ass, Gam - can we assume you're contributing this to the poster?
Mechmaster Posted November 20, 2003 Posted November 20, 2003 Nice work Gammera, I've just redone the upper leg articulation of my own valk based on the 1/48 Yammie. I got fed up of the hip intakes colliding with the wings whenever the upper leg pivoted forward, that joint mid-thigh helps a lot.
