MODEROID | GOOD SMILE COMPANY

These guys are looking to cement their place in the robot toy market. Some gorgeous models featured. Super Robot fans will rejoice, too, as they're doing models of some characters who've never had figs, or good ones, anyway.

Given the breadth of what they're covering now and in the future, I thought this warranted its own topic. If Mods disagree, feel free to remove it.  Otherwise, check it out and enjoy!

It is nice to see some neglected subjects finally getting plastic kits rather than expensive hard to find resin ones. Patlabor has had kits and toys in the past, but they really do justice by adding the obscure labors and it’s nice to see live action sci-fi love for aliens and Robocop. And I said it in the other thread, but the one I’m most excited about is the Madox-01. Overall I think this is gonna be a year that will give a good smile to many hobby fans of sci-fi and anime

I'm not really a super robot fan, but as a fan of robots and mecha in general, I was pretty amazed to see what these guys have on offer, and the quality of it all.  I thought it apropos to share it here, as we're all fans of some sort of robots around here, be it Macross, Transformers, Mospeada, etc.

For me, that ED-209 looks amazing. I have the Neca, but it lacks all the foot articulation of the Moderoid model.  Ripley's Power Loader looks pretty cool, too.

And while the SR stuff doesn't really grab me, per se, I'm impressed by the number and complexity of combining bots that they're producing. As intros for new lines go, this one grabs the attention for sure. Hopefully, the quality will live up to the hype; I'd like to see these guys succeed.

The model stands at 230mm in length, 125mm in width and 120mm in height. The model is primarily made from PS plastic. The tires are made from rubber and the windshield has been made with translucent parts. The driver seats of the vehicle have been recreated in model form as well. 8 miniature figures are included to display in the driver seats. One Mega Destroyer and 4 Mega fighters are included as well with miniature figures included to display on the Mega fighters. Wing parts for the Mega fighters are also included.

As a feature specific to this model kit, the Mega Destroyer and Mega fighters can be stored in the TAC-COM vehicle. Water-slide decals for recreating the various markings of the TAC-COM are also included. This product requires adhesive for assembly. Please purchase adhesive separately.

Ahh, darnit.. you actually got me excited for a second that they were going to be making things from another "Mega Force" franchise.

Still, cool to see them making kits of some of these obscure vehicles!

Think we can get them to make a mass-produced Gunstar?

Honestly, I was thinking about another Megaforce named franchise. The record company that put out the first Metallica album also had that same name. I guess it was a popular thing back in the early 80’s. Not sure if I  heard of this particular one, but it looks familiar

After doing a bit of crappy research on this Mega Force, I think my familiarity comes from the Southpark and team America references to it. I tried to find some stuff on YouTube like an actual trailer for the film, but found mountains of parody mash ups of scenes that probably were better than what I actually was searching for. Now I kinda want to see it because it looks so horrible and silly and I don’t know if that’s intentional or not.

A couple weeks ago I built my first Moderoid kit

IMG_20220328_133028_892.jpg.d93bbbf48d7a1e9840091cb2fc0eb881.jpg

It was a pretty fun build. My only complaint is that the kit it's meant to be built without any painting, but Good Smile didn't cast some parts on the right color, specially the back of the hands.

I’m so far in my backlog that I haven’t done much with my ed 209. So far it’s the biggest moderoid box that I have and completely dwarfs any of my obsolete kits

That's just gorgeous, and the articulation shames my NECA. If I was better at painting, I'd totally get this, but my crap skills would never do it justice. Really wish the NECA toy had been done this well. It's big, beautiful and presents well, but its articulation is pretty limited, especially the feet.

So love the ED-209 design; def one of the all-time coolest robot designs in sci-fi.😍

I don’t think you really need a lot as far as painting skills on this one. Most of the parts are pre colored and pre painted. And there are decals for the rest. You could get away with a slapping it together and maybe just do some very basic weathering.

Brain powered is nice especially since it’s more than just the main unit, and they also already did Escaflowne. Maybe new gasaraki kits sometime soon

Seeing those pictures of the Blue Gale from Xabungle reminds me of when I was a kid. I had a knockoff toy of it that oddly enough had decals from Macross on it. The hatch parts on the legs had a green sticker with the kite symbol on it with text that said SDF-1 Macross.

I remember you could transform it into the truck mode and it had a pull back function that let it role across the floor. Unfortunately it was very brittle plastic and it broke easily, never mind all the small part like the hands were on small pegs that would either not hold the part or snap off easily.

I get the feeling some one that works high up at good smile loves great robots and mecha and really doesn’t care if the design or show was super popular and just wants a model kit one way or the other.

I’m working on the Dangaio model and just finished the individual jets last night.   I love that it’s snap together and colors are pretty much on point that I don’t have to paint or use glue.    Next up is Madox-01 kit and then I see the ED-209 above.

Order placed.

Good thing I don’t really care about Cain.
