If anyone lives around Los Angeles, you can visit the Little Toyko Mall and see the VF-1J in person until 14APR:

Would love for someone to have a look and share impressions.

The more I see these "on display"....the less I am impressed by them...

They seem a bit too stocky...

There's a lot that I like about them, honestly.  The panel lines have grown on me a bit which is surprising given that I'm usually not into that embellishment.  If I have a concern, it relates to the width of the chest: I recall seeing an image of the VF-1S in which the chest appeared disproportionately wide relative to the rest of the body.  Still, I'm keeping all of my preorders alive (of course, threezero's preorder terms appear designed to prevent me from getting any sort of refund even if I wanted one).

The heavy-duty panel lining was one of the things that was a complaint about the first KC VF-1S release....it was considerably toned down on future releases....guess ThreeZero must have been a fan of that "look"...

But that's just paint apps which can be fixed....the mold can't be fixed for this release if it turns out as bad as it looks...maybe it's just bad camera angles...

I'm not familiar with Threezero or their other releases.  Are they known for right-shifting product releases?  These figures appear to have remained unchanged, as far as I can tell, for a LOOOOONG time.  If I'm correct, the delayed release is puzzling.  Someone mentioned way back when that there were rights issues that were holding up the release.  Anyone have any current insight on the matter?

looking at these pictures, the feet look like they were almost a direct copy of the Banda DX Chogokin VF-1 designs, with the all metal construction, but this is not a dis, I really like the feel of the all metal feet.  I even like the look of the stand.  I just hope that these will be available in good quantities, and not some obscure, limited run of 1000 pieces, hurry now!

I have a few Threezero items, and their construction & engineering is great, with smart use of metal in places to give a nice feeling of heft without compromising durability or posability. They usually punch above their price point compared to established Japanese brands like Bandai. From what I see online here and there, there's very little quality issues on modern Threezero products, but as with other brands, sometimes it does rear its head and its usually due to tolerances errors rather than outright engineering or design incompetence.

Was expecting reviews to have start to come out based on previous info of April release, but their latest update is that release have been pushed to this month. So, anytime now I guess.

I have one of the original Threezero Patlabor figures, and it gets an A grade from me. Even has fabric joint covers that look good. Hefty, solid, poseable, gimmicks, hits all the right notes.

Only company I've been more impressed with is CCS (specifically their Gurren Lagann, which is amazing)

I think that Amazon USA website lists the item as releasing on May 22, 2024.  So take this with a grain of salt, as I have no idea how official this date may be.

It is good to see ThreeZero is planning a whole wave, not just a one off to see how it goes. After getting their Eva and Shin Getter 1 I definitely want to check out the VF-1J.

More pics.. I do love how Theeezero supply plenty of pics during PO. On other side, KC likes to provide only one single lousy image.

Atleast ThreeZero is not like Bandai photoshopping everything. When it's missing, it stays missing. :spiteful:

I really want that to feel good in hand, unlike a KC, but I'm not prepared to PO without handling one first. A place in NYC like Midtown Comics would def put one on display, maybe Forbidden Planet too. I hope that doesn't take long, but I expect it to happen as it's licensed for the USA and Diamond will carry ThreeZero stuff.

Haha good catch. Hopefully that flap doesn't fall off easily in the actual toy.

Unlike for Rick's 1J, the pics of Roy's 1S seem to be based on an actual production unit, with the tolerances and gaps especially for Fighter looking tighter. No surprises here as they likely use an actual Rick production & then manually painted it to Roy's scheme. At least the cockpit canopy is no more frosted like the previous samples.

One thing that bugs me about Battroid, is that in the many pics here and before where the thigh sideway joints (some refer to it as drawer joints?) are engaged, the leg looks weird, unnatural and makes the whole thigh area look very skinny..

I am also seeing this aspect in KC's v2 VF-1. Yet it is something that I don't notice on Bandai's DX. I think Bandai sculpted the thighs fuller so they don't look weird when that joint is being used, and it is something Bandai got very right even if I didn't know it before until I see KC's and ThreeZero's now..

Still, ThreeZero has some nice angles. This is my fav of the whole lot:

Oh don't you worry. This will be fixed in their 'Rick Hunter' VF-1S release months after. :spiteful:

I'm checking the photos again. Do you think that 'drawer joints' is a 3-point joint? On some photos it looks like it's rotated. Not sure if it's just how the photo was taken.

Now after seeing updated pics I know for sure I'm going to buy these. TZ has a huge reputation for quality and since this is the first toy they were allowed to transform I cant help but think the delay was to ensure as many flaws were fixed. only one thing for certain it cant be any worst then the durability of KC valks

Since Three Zero did borrow the Voltron Mold from Bandai and just added fold away panels to hide the legs and Bandai has loaned them other molds as well.... I have to wonder if quietly if Bandai helped them design this? as crazy as that might sound given technically they are not competing at least in markets on paper. stranger things you never know

I wouldn't say Bandai is directly involved one way or another. Probably they hired the same contractor to do the design. As Bandai do too for some of their Valkyrie. Hence, why some looked the same as Yamato/Arcadia's.

Depending on the reviews and if they make a stealth, then I'm in.

3Zero has overwhelming positive reviews for most of their releases, especially in the quality of materials and articulation.

Yeah it does look rotated at first on couple of pics, but I after relooking closely I feel it's more the camera angle that makes it look so..

The VF-1S head is fugly.

The head really doesn’t bother me for some reason. I think the body is the fugly part
