Pat S Posted January 5 Posted January 5 (edited) I got the 1J the other day and am super impressed with it. It's not perfect, but you definitely get your money's worth. Detail is really well done. Paint is great. It looks good with almost any pose. Probably the worst pose is what it looks like in the box. Like looking down into a grave lol. Another bonus for me is that it's closer in scale with the majority of my other Valkyries. I preordered the 1S today. I hope they come out with more of these other than M&M VF-1J. I've never really liked the M&M scheme (just personal preference). Edited January 5 by Pat S Quote

Maybe an online kinda thing since it wouldn’t require too much as far as changes mold wise from the Robotech stuff to DYRL. Quote

Expand I’m pretty sure basic super packs are coming for the Robotech versions they’re making. I don’t know if they’re gonna be add ons or if they’re gonna be included. The M&M 1J’s had a couple different colors to them just in the show, so who knows what their plan is. The major differences between the series packs and the show ones mold wise are just the arms and the strike cannons, but it would be pretty simple just to do recolor plastic and change the arms. I’m curious if this is something they’re thinking about doing since the big costs are in the molds and they really wouldn’t have to make many parts for the movie. I guess we’ll see the further along they get, if they keep pumping these out for an extended amount of time. Quote
Radioguy Posted January 5 Posted January 5 Incidentally, do any of the current release feature nylon parts? I ask, because I wonder if a repaint is possible, as the DX has some nylon joints that are apparently unpaintable (nylon doesn't take paint, but perhaps just dye). Quote

Based on how the BW license has been granted since 1982....no company that is not Japanese has ever held a long term BW Macross license....since BW has forsaken the SDFM license due to HG's continued stranglehold on all things SDFM TV....it is unlikely that anyone will be able to get a BW license for SDFM and by default....DYRL outside of Japan...is it possible? In theory yes, but in practice for the last 40 years....probably not....especially now that a legal agreement is actually in place between BW and HG..... In the past, HG seemed to have had no issues granting licenses to companies looking to release DYRL based toys and paint schemes....that no longer seems to be something that HG is willing to allow....I had asked KC about DYRL schemes VFs...but they said they could not...I did not press as to why they could not, but it probably has to do with the new BW-HG deal... Expand Lol, he certainly had some opinions, none of which were flattering. Your hypothesis may be valid and he may not have known. The impression I've gotten is that BW is a small company that is very weary of foreigners. With their HG experience, who can blame them? I get it now on the Macross logo, thanks. That may have to do with the pilot names also. A later run, in Japan or not, could carry the Macross logos with the Macross names. Quote

That side was actually the first bay I opened, and for a brief moment I thought I was grossly mistaken in it having integrated gears and instead thinking that the gears are plugged in ala HMR. I’ll be contacting my local vendor to explore solutions. That cute warranty card that ThreeZero included with suddenly doesn’t look so much from a bygone era now. Expand Just a follow up report. Not long after the above post, I sent the whole leg assembly to my vendor, who then it shipped off to ThreeZero HK for 'repairs'. I got them back last week, and far as I can tell, TZ essentially sent over brand new lower legs. What's different this time around is how much less stiff all moving parts are on these new legs. The buttons require much less fingernail force, sliders on the knees and feet move with less strength, the knees twist with less effort. Not sure if it's variation in assembly quality, or this is part of new production with adjusted tolerances. Disconcertingly, one of the Gerwalk joints is very noticeably not as tight as the other one. As we know, the Gerwalk joint is purely friction based like the HMR and I hope this won't become an issue further down the road with more play & becomes floppy. Quote
Radioguy Posted January 14 Posted January 14 I know they aren't huge, but I did imagine 3Z to be a company that might insist on full swaps of entire products. Hey, if it's cost-effective to offer to swap out components, good, but I am a tad surprised. Quote

26662 Posted January 16 Posted January 16 Both releases have been absolutely stellar IMO. They are certainly worth buying again, but I'll be annoyed if fast packs for the current 1J and 1S aren't sold separately at some point. That said, there's no guarantee that the current 1J and 1S won't need some retooling/redesign in order to accommodate fast packs.
