MKT Posted July 1 Posted July 1 Nothing much new with this review, except he shows how the legs can be completely detached from the waist joint, ala Bandai DX. Video also doesn’t show anything with the 3rd elbow joint; it’s stuck in position as with all the other videos. Hilariously he also installs the missiles backwards, & has that huge ass gap between the arms & head in Fighter. I think there must be something wrong in the instruction manual for so many reviewers to do so. Quote
Mechapilot77 Posted July 1 Posted July 1 wow thanks jvmacross! great comparo. seems like a mixed bag. engineering wise in terms of tolerances, fit, and molding yamato/arcadia still seems to be the king (at least tied with the bandai). aesthetics i think is personal preference. beefy arms i like. sticking below legs in fighter mode...i think it was a compromise that willingly made which i don't think i'd have made that tradeoff. some might disagree with it but i don't think it was a "mistake" it came out that way to 3Z. obviously the 3Z wins in terms of articulation. in any case, i think there are a few other things that are dumb changes from the DX too, but i still need one of these in my hands to see how i feel about it. i am kind of doubting i'll want I want more than 1 though now. we'll see. jvmacross Posted July 1 Posted July 1 One other thing....the Three Zero VF-1J is heavy....about as much as a 1/55....and no clicking joints anywhere to be found...not sure what that holds for future floppiness....it's the only Three Zero product I own so no idea how these hold up to minimal use, let alone transformation type of wear... Quote
Duymon Posted July 1 Posted July 1 It looks like a great alternative for people who don't have the space nor funds to acquire aftermarket DX 1/48's. I feel like in that video he didn't bring the arms up anough in fighter mode because that gap between the shoulders and head was way too big. My only real criticism of that VF-1J is I don't like how pure white it is and would prefer a more white/grey like Bandai's DX. Quote

So played around with the leg extension and settled on this much extension as a compromise...not enough and it is still too short, too much and it just looks wrong....at this amount of leg extension it is just about the same height in Battroid as the Yamato 1/60 VF-1.... Not bad. Great comparison . And definitely no shortage of photos! The gaps might not be too noticable if the "kneecaps" were opened up a bit. Quote

m0n5t3r Posted July 2 Posted July 2 (edited) It looks like that supposed 3rd elbow joint is fixed. I hope threezero is checking this thread and will correct this and whatever else for the VF-1S. They have at least 6 months to make improvements. Edited July 2 by m0n5t3r Quote

It even has a tab as if for your fingernail to pull it out. Quote

jvmacross Posted July 2 Posted July 2 IMO....Probably the easiest and most fun "DX" VF-1 to pose to date....maybe the absence of all the joint clicking noise makes it less stressful...lol Also...that additional joint that was shown in earlier promo pics is gone...the only rotation is via the "bicep" piece directly underneath the shoulder piece... Quote
Darth_Tater69 Posted July 2 Posted July 2 Last off topic post I pinky swear Just wanted to tell you guys I did end up ordering a Yamato 1/60 V2 Roy Fokker with super parts (tv version) off ami-ami for about 150 bucks thank you for the suggestions I might end up getting the VF-1S version of the threezero depending on how it turns out, but I am cancelling my VF-1J preorder. Maybe if they release a VF-1J GBP box set with a bunch of missile display parts I'll buy that Quote
jvmacross Posted July 2 Posted July 2 Another annoying aspect of the Three Zero VF-1 is how the chest piece in Battroid does not connect securely to the chest cavity pieces.....with handling, the connection comes apart leaving it looking like it has a gap....it just seems, at least in my copy, that the tab and slots are not sufficient to hold them firmly together at all times...I suppose you can opt to not add the chest cavity parts, but it looks better with them installed... That's peculiar bc my chest cavity pieces are rock-solid on both of mine. Perhaps there's a way to modify yours to fit better? Quote

Have pics of how your tabs look both on the cavity pieces and where they connect to the chest piece? Like I said, it is only an issue once you start handling it and putting the VF-1J into several poses....I need to keep making sure the pieces are correctly connected Minor inconvenience I suppose... I was wondering about that too, since many videos also show those cavity fillers being very gappy once puttting the valk in poses. Not that big issue for me I guess, since I’m currently displaying my Yammies without them anyway. Quote
jvmacross Posted July 3 Posted July 3 Update...on the chest cavilty issue....in order for the chest piece to fit perfectly, there are some tabs (2) that need to go in as far as possible into the slots on a plastic plate that is directly underneath the outer chest piece....I got it as far in as possible and that seemed to have resolved the issue...it still looks like the tabs can go further into the slot, but the way it is now is enough to hold it in place.....once these inner tabs are in correctly...the final 2 tabs will provide a better fit to the outer chest piece...here are the pics of the tabs and slots that work together to get everything perfectly connected....all must be fitted into each other perfectly or the chest piece will keep popping out of the chest cavities.... Inner chest piece slot....there is one for the right side and one for the left... Tab on chest cavity piece....one on each cavity (left and right).... Once it is installed properly...it looks like this....it seems to be able to push further into the tab, but did not want to risk breaking anything....either the slot is too small or tab is too big.... These slots then connect to the final 2 tabs on the chest cavity pieces.... Tabs on the left and right chest cavity pieces... Both chest cavity pieces are now fitting much better..... Quote

In at least one of the videos that showed excessively gappy side covers, the reviewer didn't seem to have the swingbar armature properly connected to the hip sockets or backplate, so the backplate wasn't fit as closely to the cockpit fuselage as it should have been. It's possible to make the same transformation error on both the Yamarcadia and DX valks, so it seemed like a pretty cut and dried case of mistransformation. Quote

On that note: how close are the Yamarcadia and DX valks, designwise? Not sure how much they vary from one another as far as parts shapes and whatnot. Quote

I only ever ordered 1 item from ShowZ some years ago, & if I remember correctly, it came packed inside a styrofoam box then, which is probably the best type of shipping box. 6 hours ago, pengbuzz said: On that note: how close are the Yamarcadia and DX valks, designwise?
