Vostok 7 Posted January 27, 2004 Posted January 27, 2004 So I just got this email from Tokyo Central... Message: ------------------------------------ Dear Customer, Thank you for your interest in TokyoCentral. As you know, you ordered the following item from TokyoCentral: ---------------------------- Neon Genesis Evangelion Vol. 9 - Lmited Ed. Rei Set - - Regular Price:$21.50 1 $ 19.50 ---------------------------- We took pre-orders up to the manufacturer's deadline for consumers. The manufacturer's deadline for stores was actually the second week of January 2004; however, we submitted our order before the deadline for consumers. Unfortunately, upon submitting our order in December, we were informed that there was absolutely no chance of us getting the stock ordered. Unfortunately, Kadokawa under-estimated the demand for this product. They actually sold out during the first week of pre-orders several months ago. They did not notify us or stop accepting pre-orders once this happened. According to Kadokawa, they will not produce more sets because it was limited to a pre-determined number. They inadvertently set their limit too low. As a result, the set sold out too fast, and sadly their pre-determined number did not last a week through the pre-order period. TokyoCentral has exhausted every route available to us to secure stock through wholesale. While the item is not even produced yet, we can't guarantee stock at all. As such, TokyoCentral has no option, but to notify you of this situation, and to encourage you to secure the set elsewhere, as we can't guarantee any stock. We may receive one or two sets; however, we need a lot more than we can acquire. If we do receive any, we will distribute them in date order. This means, if you ordered during the first couple of days it was posted to our site, then your chances of getting a set are higher, but even so, it's possible you will not receive one from us. Kadokawa has also said they expect to have excess stock from quantity allocated to large stores. In Japan, many publishers have opened web sites and physical shops. Unfortunately, Kadokawa takes care of their own shops first. We believe they have reserved a very high number for direct sales, through sites, like http://www.chara-ani.com, http://www.mediaworks.co.jp, http://www.kadokawa.co.jp, and etc. As an example, this is their product page on one of their shops: http://www.chara-ani.com/pickup.asp?html=i....html&path=eva9 While supplies last, they are still taking orders until April 2004, which clearly shows that they really do have stock available but they intend to keep all profit within their companies. For those who have asked us to recommend another site, we are unfortunately not aware of any other site that sells outside of Japan. We also can't order from other sites because each has a limit and we have a lot of pre-orders. We are very sorry, and want you to know that we have done everything possible to avoid this notice to you. m(__)m We sincerely apologize for any disappointment this may cause to you, and deeply regret this situation. In the future, we will not be taking pre-orders for items like this through Kadokawa unless we are able to guarantee a high quantity in advance. At this time, TokyoCentral is canceling all pre-orders from our system. We will keep your order on file, and if we are able to complete it, we will contact you at that time with the option to buy. If this happens, we will contact each customer in order of submission date. Once again, we deeply apologize for any disappointment this has caused to you. We hope you will give us an opportunity to provide you with other great Japanese products in the future. Thank you very much for your patience and understanding. Regards, TC Team m(__)m TokyoCentral http://www.tokyocentral.com So where do I get one now? *cries* Vostok 7 Quote

That's such BS, they should produce more if there's a desire for it. Trying to make it some rare collectible piece when lots more people want it doesn't make any business sense; so maybe there's hope yet they'll do a second run. Sorry man. Quote
Yohsho Posted January 27, 2004 Posted January 27, 2004 If you get lucky, try Animaxis whenever they get a copy. I'm planning to go over to Richmond and try to grab one from the Japanese bookstore there when they get it in, that's where I got my Christmas Rei and Asuka. Quote

It sounds like it's a damn Star Wars figure. "Uh, yeah, there's a HUGE demand for this, so we're only going to make 5. Sorry, you're screwed even though it's like your most favorite character of all of them. Look on the bright side, if you ever take over Microsoft and can afford the multi-million dollar pricetag this will have in 30 years, you're welcome to it." <_< <_< Vostok 7 Quote
VF-1S Alpha Posted January 27, 2004 Posted January 27, 2004 I got one reserved for me! And I am in Taiwan. Also I heard from the anime shop that reserved for me, saying that a "copy" version will also be available at a cheaper price. Origin: Hong Kong! So unless you really want the original, then I guess you must wait on Ebay or release! Quote

(I live in Vancouver.) I ordered my copy from a friend who owns a Japanese toy shop in HK 3 months ago. He told me that it is a super hot item. Edited January 27, 2004 by ogami Quote
eriku Posted January 27, 2004 Posted January 27, 2004 I just got that email too. Maybe I'll be able to find one on Ebay for a sane price. If now, screw it. Quote

This is what's really screwed up. This is an HG level tactic. Damn shame too. At least Tokyo Central was up front and honest about it, and explained the situation veyr clearly. Kudos to that at least. Some places **cough*HLJ*cough** and some others would have just let the pre-orders sit there until you give up on it. Quote

Jolly Rogers Posted January 28, 2004 Posted January 28, 2004 I'm getting my sister to pre-order the Kadokawa Taiwan edition instead. It'll be roughly the same price as the Japanese original. Diamond can sit on a pile of their (or is it Viz?) $34.99 ripoff edition for all I care. Quote

MrDisco Posted January 28, 2004 Posted January 28, 2004 d'oh! "We were informed by the publisher of this product- Kadokawa Shoten, that they might not be able to fulfill all the orders received. So things are uncertain as to how they're going to handle it. We don't know if they'll be able to send us enough for the pre-orders we've received either, so once we get any new details, we will let you know" - Akadot Quote

KingNor Posted January 28, 2004 Posted January 28, 2004 , and that what they did get, would be first come first serve. still a bit confuse (im slow) so are you saying that the preorders were canceled and they are only taking direct purchases when they finally get them instock? or that the first people to preorder will be the ones to get the item? sorry, i AM kinda slow on the uptake sometimes Quote

Unfortunately, I made the mistake of waiting until the day before the pre-order ended which means my chance of getting one through them is slim to nil. Vostok 7 Quote
twinmoons Posted January 28, 2004 Posted January 28, 2004 For those of you interested in that Rei figure with the Manga, it WILL be available domestically in the U.S. and we will be carrying it. I don't have the pricing info yet, but we will have it on our site (http://www.tmpanime.com) as soon as I get the pricing info. Best Regards, Tamim Quote
Jolly Rogers Posted January 28, 2004 Posted January 28, 2004 wtf, $35?! I concur. It's not like you get a free Eva movie ticket with purchase. Quote
