F-ZeroOne Posted April 12, 2021 Posted April 12, 2021 (edited) They're gonna need extras, right? Extras who know how to scream properly when being vapourised by a beam sabre? Just... asking. For a friend. Edited April 12, 2021 by F-ZeroOne Quote
mikeszekely Posted April 12, 2021 Posted April 12, 2021 Well... This could be very good... or very bad. Quote
Dynaman Posted April 12, 2021 Posted April 12, 2021 They have not put the money required to make this properly into ANYTHING they have done - even the great stuff like Stranger Things and Lost in Space. Color me skeptical at best. (I'll be properly happy to be entirely wrong but...) Quote
Bolt Posted April 12, 2021 Posted April 12, 2021 (edited) Sounds cool. Excited for more details. Really excited about the live action Bebop ! Edited April 12, 2021 by Bolt Quote
crackpot Posted April 13, 2021 Posted April 13, 2021 (edited) Are they working on it or do they just have the rights to distribute it outside China? It seems Legendary films is the one making it. I'm not too excited for this. If Netflix is really the one making it, they tend to take too much creative liberty and the story shifts to being too PC. Edited April 13, 2021 by crackpot Quote
Bolt Posted April 13, 2021 Posted April 13, 2021 You better be sh**ting me. That looks horrible.. Quote
Duymon Posted April 13, 2021 Posted April 13, 2021 inb4 they race-bend everything and there's a weird love-arc between Char and Amuro because Netlix Amirite? Quote
Seto Kaiba Posted April 13, 2021 Posted April 13, 2021 It can't possibly be as hilariously terribad as G-Saviour, so they have my curiosity... Quote

Newtype is a new gender classification and Char wants every human to evolve into one by causing a nuclear winter on earth. Will he succeed or will his love for Amuro get in the way? Yes, there absolutely wasn't an entire feature film devoted to Char's unrequited man-crush on Amuro complete with him secretly sending Amuro gifts and everything before a dramatic reunion that involves what might as well be actual magic and ending with them dying together. The Earth didn't move, but a moon-sized asteroid absolutely did. After all, that'd be crazy, wouldn't it? Edited April 13, 2021 by Seto Kaiba Quote
electric indigo Posted April 13, 2021 Posted April 13, 2021 I thought that was just to distract from all the Lolicon stuff going on around Char... Back to Netflix, I can imagine a limited scope series of War in the Pocket scale being well within the budget outlines. Quote

jenius Posted April 13, 2021 Posted April 13, 2021 Knowing nothing about Gundam... I was like "cool, live action robot fights!" Then I came to this thread and became very apprehensive. Quote

I especially liked Amuro lunging out of the jeep to embrace Char off horseback (broke back newtype) . And then they proceed to roll in the grass together.. Quote

Bolt Posted April 13, 2021 Posted April 13, 2021 @jenius I'm surprised you don't know much about Gundam. They've made some awesome toys, over the years. Quote

Then I came to this thread and became very apprehensive. Gundam is... diverse in its styles of storytelling. Amuro and Char could most charitably be called best frenemies, but there's a lot of wooly stuff about the evolution of mankind, empathy, and the nature of conflict. Basically, "like Macross but relentlessly dark and pessimistic." Quote
Dynaman Posted April 13, 2021 Posted April 13, 2021 And teenage angst. Massive, neverending piles of teenage angst. Though I did like Gundam 00 (which for those that don't know is one of those stories that feature Gundams but is in a completely different universe). Quote
Big s Posted April 14, 2021 Posted April 14, 2021 It would be funny if it was a build fighters type thing using stop motion for the fights Quote
Wolf-1 Posted April 14, 2021 Posted April 14, 2021 Keep it on Earth during the One Year War for the film; not a retelling of MS 08th but something in the same vein. I just think it would appeal to a broader audience unfamiliar with the Franchise as a whole and only getting 90-120 minutes to become invested and slowly introduced into the war in Space and Newtypes. A two film at once announcement would be better as it would indicate the intention to tell related stories from the different Faction viewpoints. Quote
Keith Posted April 14, 2021 Posted April 14, 2021 Or, this is all just a huge troll for Netflix streaming ZZ. Quote
Seto Kaiba Posted April 14, 2021 Posted April 14, 2021 If they're smart, they'll just go create their own Gundam timeline. Quote
Valkyrie Hunter D Posted April 14, 2021 Posted April 14, 2021 If it's gonna look as good as the cameo in Ready Player One, I'm all in. (On a side note, when the grandaddy Gundam was summoned in that movie, over half of the audience hooted in jubilation-good times) Quote
Marzan Posted April 14, 2021 Posted April 14, 2021 As long as there is a Char and they drop a colony on Sydney I'll be game Quote
Big s Posted April 15, 2021 Posted April 15, 2021 I think I have to agree with Seto. A new timeline would be the best solution since you won’t have anyone complaining about ruined story lines or miss treated characters. They could start fresh with a story and have designs that don’t have to look like they belong too closely with something preexisting. A masked bad guy and giant robots with the main character piloting one with a v fin would be the main requirements. Beyond that the reasons for conflict and character types would be free range. Quote
Keith Posted April 15, 2021 Posted April 15, 2021 As long as that new time-line is highly derivative of 0079 & Zeta (like 9/10 AU series) I'm fine with that. Quote

I don't think a new timeline would solve the issues you are talking about. Sometimes it works and sometimes it does not. With Gundam I don't think they have a choice though, the anime designs look goofy in live action. Quote
