Baddeye Posted January 28, 2021 Posted January 28, 2021 Hey all, I'm working on an old Revell Robotech "Changers" kit. I believe it's just a rebadged Imai VF-1S kit. Are reproduction decals available for these kits? Thanks Quote
ulvdemon Posted February 1, 2021 Posted February 1, 2021 (edited) I am going to call this one done. Ran into an issue in regards to the canopy rail due to pulling up the tape... with some paint. Also as you can tell the canopy itself fogged over, I suspect that it is from some superglue, which I assumed wouldn't fog since the canopy was dipped in Future, so much for that little bit of advice. The end was a slog, since I used it as a test of skills in regards to displaying the model in flight. I might redo the base when I complete my Hasegawa VF-1 and VF-11. It is meant to be a bit shiny since I used Vallejo's Metal medium with the paints, no issues other than it lightens the color somewhat. Enjoyed the build but I am glad to call thi s one done. Gabe Q Posted February 1, 2021 Posted February 1, 2021 She looks great! All the hard work pays off on the end. Love the paint job. What colors did you use? About the canopy. It's all a learning experience. Focus on the positive aspects of your build. Quote
ulvdemon Posted February 1, 2021 Posted February 1, 2021 I used Vallejo's USAF Colors for Gray schemes. If I recall correctly, I used the Light and Medium Ghost Gray's for the Valk itself. Aggressor Gray (or Ocean Gray) for the armor and other odds and ends. Quote
peter Posted February 6, 2021 Posted February 6, 2021 Hey, I built one of these a while back! Don't see many people building these anymore since the Hasegawa's came out. Added a few spare parts from Hasegawa kits as well as decals. I only used a handful of the original decals as many of them just looked too cartoonish. As to the OP's question, if you have a lot of Hasegawa 1/72 kits, you might want to look into spares from those kits, they look far nicer. In my opinion. Quote
Gabe Q Posted February 6, 2021 Posted February 6, 2021 I'm not sure I agree about the Hasegawa spares on these. The styles clash. The old kit has the straight from the line art look while the Hasegawa is trying to look like real aircraft. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to fix the nose on these old 1/72 kits? They're in need of some serious rhinoplasty! Quote

They're in need of some serious rhinoplasty! I know others have completely re-sculpted the nose. I just sanded mine as much as I dared but I'm no scupltor so mine still looks like crap. I just realized I have spare noses from my Hasegawa Elintseeker and Super Ostrich, so I probably could have just used that. Quote
Thom Posted February 6, 2021 Posted February 6, 2021 Don't sweat the nose! A number of real world planes have different models with modifications and additions. The odd nose shape could be explained as the plane having a different radar set up or sensor hardware. Just use a new letter at the end, such as VF-1K or something. Quote

The nosecone looks like a vulture. Will a Hasegawa 1/72 Nosecone fit in there? I picked up one of these vulture VF-1Ds a while back and when I saw the nosecone I noped that build to the bottom of my list. lol But for real you made garbage look good. I respect that. Quote

I'm not sure how this topic got hijacked, but it's all good. Anyway, I managed to find an old set that's pretty yellowed. I scanned them in and am going to digitally correct as much as I can, then see if I can print them on some decal paper. The white colored decals are going to be a challenge. The Bandai reissues (two waves of them) are readily available. I just checked the one I have and the decal sheet matches the picture you posted. Yes, the white markings will be challenging to print.
