Nightbat Posted January 26, 2004 Posted January 26, 2004 Some of you may have seen the "Early Bird discount" on Hobby Link Japan and the fact that the 1/48 1J Millia preorder gets a 5% discount Now I've ordered my Millia just before this stunt and decided to contact HLJ about it guess what: "The earliest bird gets the shaft" I have to cancel and re-order it to get the discount Nice,... but what if this is a High demand item? HLJ has a "First come, First serve" service, so if I do that I get placed further up the Queue and may even miss out (I realise this won't be the problem with the Millia, but still,...) Pretty funny situation oh well I'll let them keep that 5% Quote
KingNor Posted January 26, 2004 Posted January 26, 2004 one thing you could do is pre-order a SECOND one, if it goes through, you coudl cancel the first one. if it doesn't go through, then hold on to the first one. Quote
Spiff Posted January 26, 2004 Posted January 26, 2004 5% I wouldnt loose sleep over that. Just leave your order in and consider it the price you pay for being the first kid on your block to have one. Quote
FRED THE FRENCH Posted January 26, 2004 Posted January 26, 2004 Yeah, Spiff is right. Don't cancel your order for 7 Bucks. You could regret it and see the other member's pictures of this toy before you get yours. Quote
Nightbat Posted January 26, 2004 Author Posted January 26, 2004 Oh I won't bother with reordering just thought it was funny BS, technically I ordered before jan. 29th Yet I still don't get it, because I was "Too early" So I get shafted 5% Maybe they should rename it "The not-so-Early Sir Not-appearing-in-this-film Bird Discount" That's what you get for helping HLJ's ordering department when you preorder early,... or at least not so early,... or early enough to just make the Preorder deadline oh BTW, I have it SAL shipped, so I'm never the first in MW to obtain a release Quote
KingNor Posted January 26, 2004 Posted January 26, 2004 well, you really arn't getting shafted, what ever the price is, you felt it was fair and were willing to pay it. just because some other people are getting a discount doesn't mean you're getting screwed. had they raised the price on you at the last seccond then that would be getting shafted. Quote
Spiff Posted January 26, 2004 Posted January 26, 2004 Send them a email and complain, tell them you will never order again, basically BS. You have nothing else to lose. Quote
Jolly Rogers Posted January 27, 2004 Posted January 27, 2004 Better yet, cancel your order with HLJ since they obvious do not appreciate your being an early-ordering customer and take your business to Hobby Search instead. They offer a 5% discount on the Yamato 1/48 VF-1J Millia regardless of when you order. As long as they have it in stock, you get 5% off the MSRP. Hobby Search's site Quote
Myersjessee Posted January 27, 2004 Posted January 27, 2004 (edited) No early bird on the 1/60 armor parts kit! HLJ Edited January 27, 2004 by Myersjessee Quote
Vostok 7 Posted January 27, 2004 Posted January 27, 2004 Maybe they should rename it "The not-so-Early Sir Not-appearing-in-this-film Bird Discount" Aptly Named! Vostok 7 Quote
Jolly Rogers Posted January 27, 2004 Posted January 27, 2004 No early bird on the 1/60 armor parts kit! HLJ See my post in the other thread. Hobby Search offers a discount on all the stuff they carry, including pre-orders. They offer the 1/60 armor set at 5% off. I give them thumbs up for speedy shipping and outstanding customer service. A better alternative to HLJ. Quote
wasabi-elephant Posted January 27, 2004 Posted January 27, 2004 (edited) ...... I give them thumbs up for speedy shipping and outstanding customer service. A better alternative to HLJ. do not disturb Posted January 27, 2004 Posted January 27, 2004 (edited) check out toy-wave hes got them up on pre-order for $150 each....way better than that other price plus shipping from HLJ. he also got the VF-1J armor only for $30!!! anyhow, i bought from ken(toyman) and all my stuff arrived in tip-top condition. also if you know anyone that signed up for his yearly membership plan you can get an additional 10% off the subtotal of your order and another 5% for pre-orders.....not bad....not bad at all. thats 15% off, which is $255 not including shipping, so you could get both for $300 shipped and thats a deal and a half my friend. just another option. How long do you have to wait for the shipping notice after you place the order? For in-stock items it's usually within 1 business day unless you happen to order during Japanese holidays. They don't sit around their asses like HLJ does. Quote

That's strange...last couple of times I ordered something in-stock during regular business day and I emailed them few times regarding shipping cost, I got no response and have waited for one week with no shipping notice, ended up I cancelled the order. Their explanation for the delay was that the paper work required to ship their item to international customer might take extra time. Maybe I try again sometime. Jolly Rogers Posted January 27, 2004 Posted January 27, 2004 Hmm, I haven't ordered from them recently (I got kickass local vendors who sell them at cheaper than Japan price + shipping, gotta love competition) but when I was buying from them they were fast with responses and shipments. Are you in the US or another country? Quote
Mechamaniac Posted January 27, 2004 Posted January 27, 2004 Does HLJ still do that wierd ass "billing once a month" thing? Quote
rocco_77 Posted January 27, 2004 Posted January 27, 2004 You could always just order from Kevin... Save the 5% and then some on shipping... Unless you live in Japan or Europe I suppose. Quote
Nightbat Posted January 27, 2004 Author Posted January 27, 2004 Unless you live in Japan or Europe I suppose. Bingo! oh anyway I don't care wheather I get that discount, maybe next time.. just thought it was pretty funny being one of the earliest preorders and then not getting it Quote
Jolly Rogers Posted January 27, 2004 Posted January 27, 2004 I'd be offended if I were you. You placed an early order and they basically flipped you the bird when you nicely asked them to offer you the 5% discount they're offering everyone else. Quote
Nightbat Posted January 27, 2004 Author Posted January 27, 2004 Well, they gave me the alternative to cancel and reorder so it isn't like i was screwed out of the discount Quote
Jolly Rogers Posted January 28, 2004 Posted January 28, 2004 Were you thrown to the end of the line or are you guaranteed one? Quote
wasabi-elephant Posted January 28, 2004 Posted January 28, 2004 ......but when I was buying from them they were fast with responses and shipments. Are you in the US or another country? Canada. Hobbysearch only responded to me when I placed/cancelled my order. HLJ seems to be faster when dealing with int. orders. Then again, they are not "flexible". I would describe it as "Robotic", they got to go with their policies all the time. Sometimes their "policies" can be changed accordingly, just like this situation, I would have to bring my business somewhere else if they don't agree to offer me that 5% discount. Quote
CF18 Posted January 28, 2004 Posted January 28, 2004 www.1999.co.jp also got 5% off: http://www.1999.co.jp/asp/GoodsDetails_e.a...yoyaku101_e.asp The funny part is the Japanese version give 10% off to get close to local Japanese street price: http://www.1999.co.jp/asp/GoodsDetails.asp...l=yoyaku101.asp Quote
