Not my cup of tea to be honest but I don't consider these public domain derived slasher flicks any more of a butchery of the original IPs than what Disney has been doing for at least the last half a decade or so; in a way, given their tongue-in-cheek nature, they're FAR less damaging to the classics than abominations like the "live" action Snow White.

That might be true. Most of these slasher flicks are easily forgotten, while a lot of talk focuses on how bad a semi live action remake like Snow White can be. It may actually sour people from even wanting to rewatch the original as a side effect

That has been the case for me regarding Star Wars:  I have zero desire to rewatch the originals and prequals because, thanks to Disney, all roads lead to Jake Skywalker and "wonder" Rey Palpatine; similarly, Marvell has also been severely tainted to the point phases 1-4 have no rewatch value anymore.  Some, a small part, of the sentiment is due to me outgrowing these IPs to be sure, but the bulk of it is due to what those in charge have done to them.  It is actually quite sad just how much they've screwed the pooch -- chasing, and pandering to, the "Modern Audience" and laughably bad writing and execution-- with once guaranteed crowd pleasers and money makers and merchandizing juggernauts... now moribund, easily ignored, husks of their former selves.

I think I stopped enjoying rewatching Star Trek stuff after DS9 and I used to enjoy rewatching Star Wars OG films even after the Disney purchase, but I haven’t done a rewatch after all the shows kinda turned mostly into flops. And now that I think of it, I don’t really rewatch the marvel stuff anymore more either, especially after the legacy of most of the characters seemed ruined for the most part. Might still rewatch The Guardians of the Galaxy films though. Even spider man doesn’t really make me excited much anymore, after a second viewing of No Way Home (the movie that gets worse every rewatch). I think the multiverse ruined those films. Never really cared for the DC stuff anymore, but I’d probably still enjoy a rewatch of The Suicide Squad, but I don’t know how I’ll feel after the reboot films start coming out

Indeed.  Disney is, by no means, the only guilty party in the wholesale destruction of legacy IPs; however, they are, by far, the worst offenders.

That’s true. Amazon somehow ruined Lord of the Rings. But Disney somehow killed Indy, Star Wars, Marvel, Lucas film in general and even their own original stuff.

OK, its funny but OMFG that last part! 🤣😂

That is as bad an idea as trying to cast someone other then Peter Sellers as The Pink Panther's Inspector Clouseau

The good news is they are not trying to reboot it. Kinda. And they got almost as straight-laced an actor as you can get. My first thought was that I hope they went right back to Police Squad for inspiration, and seeing the line-up of cops crying over their dad's pictures feels like it could have been lifted straight out of it. I am optimistically hopeful.

I'm a little disappointed that the Zucker brothers are not involved, but Seth Macfarlane will no doubt add his own flavor of raunch.

Yeah, the pictures of all the new generation missing their dad’s with the exception of OJ was pretty hilarious. I kind of think there might be something to this ridiculous movie. I haven’t seen an over the top goofball comedy in a few years and maybe this one will be fun. Might be a good laugh, or an absolute train wreck, but I’m curious so far

Depending on where you sit, even train wrecks can be fun.😉

For what it's worth, I saw Death of a Unicorn last night after I think seeing a trailer posted here. It's unfortunately pretty formulaic, and doesn't do a whole lot with its premise. It's a rare outing from A24, which I can usually count on to at least be unique and interesting. I wonder if I'd have had a better time watching The Woman In The Yard instead. The last few times I saw a Black-headed horror flick they've all done a decent to good job holding my attention. (Get Out, Nope, Us, Talk To Me, and Never Let Go.)

Personally, I think A24 has gone so far in the quirky oddball range that now it’s just kinda turned mostly been there done that.

Leslie Nielson just had a way of delivering deadpan lines, and the humor was always at the forefront of his films, be it Naked Gun or Dracula: Dead and Loving It. Other than the little girl gag, all I see is another Liam Neeson film where he's a crack assassin, special operative, spy- what have you, much like every Jason Statham film is yet another Jason Statham film starring Jason Statham as Jason Statham if he, too, were a crack assassin, special operative, spy, what have you. I just get the sense this is going to be more Taken, The Commuter, The Ice Road, etc ad nauseum with a touch of silly humor thrown in

So many of the 80s films are classics b/c it's nigh impossible to recapture what made them memorable, unique, elevated above the scores of other films that didn't quite make such an impact. I'm not really a fan of silly humor like Naked Gun or the Mel Brooks films but my wife is and she owns all of it. I've watched a good bit of it with her and in spite of my feelings towards these kiinds of films, I've had a good laugh or three watching them, such is the absurdity, the enormous talent of the actors and directors to pull off the schtick so well, and the ability to so successfully parody other films, usually in the action genre, although what Star Wars fan hasn't sat through at least one watching of Brooks' Spaceballs without a few chuckles. There's an art and a mad genius behind making these types of films successfully, and I'm extremely dubious that this new incarnation will live up to its inspiration.

Yeah, this was a good one, a slightly different take on the genre. No sparkles here.

Spoiler

It's not even that's it's a horror movie, because I didn't feel that way about it at all. For me, there was very little actual horror, and it was far more of a buddy-style (with criminals) action flick that just happens to have a vampire ballerina! :D It had some great character interactions, and I don't just mean the quipy back and forth and one-liners, but you can see the alliances forming, as well as genuine friendships, like between Sammy and Peter, which is just sad the way that ends up...

And Alisha Weir, by gosh what a great little actress! Her temperament and acting could flip on a dime, as at first your feeling for this scared little girl, and the next you are in awe of this vampiric predator doing ballet jumps as she hunting her prey! Outstanding!
