masterpiece

I’d really love to see it in the theater. Although it is weird, wasn’t this originally made as a video cassette? Are they keeping the tv aspect or are they going to change it somehow?

It’s definitely one of my all time favorites. I know a lot of people were going crazy for Akira here in the states around that time, but even though it probably was better in just about every way, I always really loved Vampire Hunter D flaws and all.

New interaction in the  Poohverse

I’m probably gonna sound like a broken record here, but again I gotta say that it’s just lazy making every character that enters the public domain into a bad horror movie. Although I at least see a reason for Bambi to take his revenge on hunters. But when Finding Nemo hits public Domain , does he go after the sea creature that murdered his mom and hundreds of his siblings and crippled him or does he go after the dentist and his family?

just hoping I’m dead before Murder Hobbits of the Shire hits theaters

I'm just surprised this crap is making enough money for them to keep doing it - even with the quarter of a shoestring budget they are made on.

That’s probably how they’re able to do it. No name actors and bare bones effects and no real writers. Basically if they just get a few people to buy tickets and get something like shudder or one of the other horror streamers to show it, then they made far more of a profit than the newest Blue Falcon America movie that costed a few hundred times more to make and market.

Unfortunately that means this will be the new trend like Sharknado or Sharktopus type movies.

Ryan does his thing on this superflous movie – the last line is gold 😄!

I saw this and the review from the drinker and both were pretty hilarious.

New ‘Starship Troopers’ Movie in the Works from ‘District 9’ Filmmaker Neill Blomkamp (Exclusive)

https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/movies/movie-news/new-starship-troopers-movie-in-the-works-1236163598/

If this actually see's the light of day, the special effects used in District 9 still hold strong today. I can't imagine what the Power Suits might look like if they stay true to the book vs. Paul Verhoeven's version. (Which I'm still a huge fan of today, I saw Starship 3 times in theaters.)

Starship Troopers - Uniform Jacket and Pants

VS. something like the 1988 Anime Mecha.

I love the original film as its become a cult classic. One of my Army buddies was also an extra in the film too. I'm curious about Starship Troopers casting.

Spoiler

Will they cast Juan Rico with a Filipino actor?

While I love the studio Nue and sunrise redesigns, I have a feeling it will have the aesthetic of a bit closer to the armor from District 9 but without the pig launcher. Or maybe Chappie. His films have kind of a clunky sort of look to the robotic type stuff, but I’d love to see something different here. And would really love something that pays homage to the Japanese versions.

Then again, his armors could end up looking more retro futuristic. Something more like a late 1950’s aesthetic

Something retro-futuristic would be cool, definitely nothing in the style of HALO, that's been overdone IMO.

The pig launcher however, that could come in handy with the Arachnids.

I still wasn’t super impressed with District 9, but I do love when he finally he finally gets the armor for some pig launching good times

Wasn't the power armor in the novel designed to cut off the limbs of the soldier if deemed necessary? I can see Blomkamp elaborate on that concept 😝

It’s been a while and I think it was supposed to be a utility design to seal a wound, but I don’t remember exactly how that worked.

I really only read through it once many years ago, but still find myself fascinated by certain elements that were in the book and how other media has treated the material mostly in totally different ways since some aspects mechanical and alien felt more hinted at while ideas felt more direct and detailed. Maybe it’s more of a fascination with what wasn’t in the book, like more elements of the alien species and mechanical specifics that take a bit of a back seat to certain idealism and emotional experience.

Hopefully we'll get more intelligent aliens and bugs. Something in line with the Roughnecks would be good.

The movie and anime didn’t really get too much into them unfortunately. They didn’t even show the Skinnies. The anime had more of a plant blob kinda thing. Roughnecks had a bit more time though, but probably because they had more time to do something, but I’d like to see the movie get a bit more into the different types and at least a bit into their relationship with eachother regarding their alliance. But more than anything, I really want to see some cool power armor on the big screen

I'd like to see someone treat the source material with respect, the old (I hate to call it the original) movie crapped all over the source book.  Not to say I agree with the conclusion of the book and find it's politics unworkable but it did make a good argument for government by those who had actually risked something.

The movie had an issue where nobody seemed to actually like the book or hadn’t read it at all. I think Paul had an assistant read it and kinda gave him a basic idea of what was going on. The anime is also quite different. It’s really a tough source to say to someone to make a faithful adaptation in the time span of a single film.
The idealism would get too dull. It’s gonna be tough to see what compromises have to be made to get this done in a way that doesn’t drag. Or if it’s just gonna be another action movie with dark humor like other Blomkamp stuff.

Military service was not the only road to citizenship, and that tends to get forgotten(in part because the book follows a soldier in a war).

Final Trailer.

Watched Electric State and really liked it. Fun, if a bit of an odd movie, and tough it followed the usual story beats it was done in a good way.

I highly anticipated this film, as I like Simon Stalenhag's art style. They captured it well in this, as well as the quirkiness that oft shows up in his work. The story was ok, no new ground being tread per se, but still well told and performed by a slew of well-known actors, many of whom give voice to the various robots. Stanley Tucci plays a stereotypical corporate baddie with his usual aplomb. While the movie has its somewhat emotional points, on the whole, it's played with levity and humor. "Fun" is an apropos descriptor. For those who like Stalenhag's style and wish to see it employed in a grittier, darker mode of storytelling, I highly recommend Tales From the Loop on Amazon Prime. I would happily welcome a continuation of this series or more movies and series in the same vein, so well was it written and acted, and with so many well-done nods to the artist's work.

Watched ANORA with my wife on Hulu. It's the film that practically nobody heard of but got multiple Oscars including Best Picture, lol. It was entertaining with lots of (.)(.) that you'd think it was a HBO MAX film 😎 Worth a watch but wouldn't pay money to see it in a theater.

And another one of these cheap horror films.

Not my cup of tea to be honest but I don't consider these public domain derived slasher flicks any more of a butchery of the original IPs than what Disney has been doing for at least the last half a decade or so; in a way, given their tongue-in-cheek nature, they're FAR less damaging to the classics than abominations like the "live" action Snow White.
