The whole point of this, is that Unix Square is trying their hand at a reinterpreted design of the VF-1. One can like that or not, but coming in here expecting it to be anime/line art accurate is kind of a fallacy. There are already plenty of options for that "accuracy" in toy or model kit form available.

Personally I am liking most of it – especially the slimmer chest plate and heat shield not being flush with it as well as the smaller spacing between chest and backplate. A reminder that the VF-1 is supposed to be a compact mecha in Battroid mode and something that is mostly lost with the current toys by Arcadia and Bandai.

If I could have my way, I would flip the inner and outer lower leg casing, shorten the fuselage to nose cone transition and I hope the head will sit lower.

Reinterpretations of this nature such as Unix Square's VF-1 are always tricky, because there aren't any other direct media tie-ins like anime, movies or comics for these designs. So these toys have to stand purely on its own design merits subject to our very own personal biases, and Sentinel being one half of Unix Square, as I understand it always like to take risks like this. Some do payoff, like their Riobot Mazinkaiser or the Re:Edit Iron Man lines, whilst others appear to have bombed like their Fighting Armor line.

That said, I like what Unix Square is doing overall for the reinterpreted 1J and although there are some design concerns in Fighter, I like that it is different enough but still has direct lineages to the VF-1. The same though, can't be said of Moshow's current iteration of the Cyclone lol.. but no biggie, everyone's preferences are different.

My problem with the reinterpretation is that it’s interesting in battroid, but the fighter looks messy. The legs look like they don’t fit the frame of the plane and look really awkward and pushed out. They appear to have redesigned the battroid without thinking at all about how it fits in fighter mode, so it kinda looks junky so far. Maybe further prototype pictures or a re redesign might help

Looks like they forgot to fully remove the super packs from the back of the legs

By the way, did anyone tell them that Unix might be a bad idea for a company name. Someone might think they’re all castrated or something

I will be more excited for the Unix Square transforming action figure of the VF-1J/A/S/?  Not really into the static figures

"Introducing the new Robotech Veritech [Trans-Action Power] series action figure! This VF1J action figure is a stunning blend of style and function, with three impressive transformation modes. Made with passion, our team put their heart and soul into designing this piece, taking inspiration from the iconic Robotech anime series. Stay tuned as we will share more photos very soon."

Those hip intakes really do look very large. It’s totally opposite to the old Revoltech VF-1s, their intakes were really small instead lol.

These might even put the hasegawa battroid hips to shame

Update on Unix Square’s VF-1J fixed pose figure, showing some of where the diecast areas are.

Looks ok so far, I might’ve been tempted if not for the recent max factory kit

Thought of opening new thread, but perhaps we just need a thread title update to insert Unix Square somewhere? @no3Ljm.

So this transformable 1J is at HKD1250, which puts it slightly higher than the Threezero's. Obviously the 75% discount at the upcoming exhibition is a typo, what they meant is 25% off.

Size in Battroid at 22cm is about comparable to Threezero / Yamcadia. Somehow it looks better in the grey prototype they showed previously, hopefully they have colour samples of other modes in the exhibition. But I'm so tired of Rick / Hikaru 1J scheme.

Hmm the video for Unix Square actually starts slightly earlier at just after the 1 hour 10min mark..  and the 2nd set of video & pics actually refer to KC instead. :)

Nice to see Roy's 1S being painted up too, but other than the design for these Transforming VF-1 looking very busy, the worst aspects of it are the knee joints looking awfully thin & weedy.

The grey mold at the center of the Transforming VF-1 display piques some interest - it looks like a VF-1 wearing Tomahawk armor. So I guess this is what they meant by 'future release of unique armor accessories' in their earlier FB post. No doubt this idea is inspired by the earlier mash-up done by R-Area, but Unix Square's execution look a bit meh. Just not feeling the whole thing.

I see the KitzConcept Glaug prototype still can't stand on its own... 😅

Too little, too late, Unix Square.

HEN.DOU.RYOKU VF-1J - official price is HK$1250

We have many good VF-1 in many scale to choose from, so they really needed to try something different.  It sure feel like they pushed some VF-2SS design element into it.   They should let the leg/intake attach firmly to the body in Fighter mode, instead of leaving a large gap.

The retro/ARII styles one are single mode figures, no price yet.

I wouldn't mind getting another 1/60 VF-1J if Arcadia is going to retool theirs to create VF-1J Macross The First version and start from there for the other MTF designs.

As posted in the other thread (why do we have two now?), I like the different interpretation Hen.Dou.Ryouku line is taking, and I'm also linking this VF-1J Battroid very much.

I posted this as general information without trying to be specific or uber categorized. Happy! 🙃

I’m also getting confused now. I just shared some photos in the Unix Sqaure VD-1J thread and then I realized there were 2 VF-1J’s from KodsLogic? Is Hen Dou Ryouku the one without the VF-2SS chest? Anyone can confirm? (Photos below are also from Bryan Lo over Facebook.)

This colored prototypes looks closer to @MKT’s post above.

Too much VF-1J’s. My head starting to hurt now. :fool:

Haha it was confusing when the grey prototypes were shown previously, and still confusing now with the colored ones.

‘Hen Dou Ryoku’ is the transforming line of VF-1, and are the ones with the heavily reinterpreted sculpt & Vf-2SS influence.

The other line is named ‘A//Action’ and are non-transforming action figures. Individual figures for each mode, with a more traditional VF-1 sculpt. Though as mentioned some time back, other than Battroid, I don’t know how much ‘action’ Fighter can be.
I’m thinking it might be better if all 3-modes are bundled into a set instead of each mode being sold separately, but Unix Square hasn’t indicated yet how they will be sold or price.

I'll probably order 1 Kids Logic SDFM VF-1J since it looks to be the closest representation of the Battroid line art in toy form.

As far as previous toys, I think the revoltech version was the winner for their Battroid only figure. This one looks alright as well, but I’m not as interested after the Plamax Battroid is so much fun for a kit
