Duke Togo Posted January 25, 2004 Posted January 25, 2004 My Girlfriend asked, is this a teen movie, or a horror movie? Don't give in to hate! That leads to the dark side... Quote
Oihan Posted January 25, 2004 Author Posted January 25, 2004 Edit: So you guys know, I liked Bad Boyz II, loved ROTK, and hated Bad Santa. Bad Santa has to be the worst comedy I've ever seen...didn't laugh through the entire movie...and I love comedies.... Just thought I'd give you guys an idea to where I stand with movies to give you guys a better perception so to say So what your saying is that we should use you as a reverse-barometer for movie quality? Well...use what I like to compare to what you guys like...and use that. I mean...what if I were to think Dumb and Dumberer was the best movie in the world...and thought the Telletubbies are the best thing...and that Segal is the best actor in the world. What would you think then? Tis why I wanted to let you guys know what I liked and didn't like Quote
Myersjessee Posted January 25, 2004 Posted January 25, 2004 bit to gratuitous and harsh for my taste... Quote
Tristan Lindo Posted January 25, 2004 Posted January 25, 2004 Ashton Kutcher is just another Hollywood pretty boy who cant act. Im not gonna waste my $ on his movie. <_< Quote
EXO Posted January 25, 2004 Posted January 25, 2004 He can act! Like a doofus. I love The 70's show and it wouldn't be the same without Kelso (what's up with the switch on Eric's sister?). Fortunately there are movies like this one that reveals that he has no range and I have no interest in. What we have here is a case of Vinnie Barbarino. Ashton has a chance to make it in Hollywood after all. And like John Travolta's films, I wouldn't watch any of his movies either. Quote

tank Posted January 25, 2004 Posted January 25, 2004 hmm..... the butter fly effect the story is like "Some where in time" starring christopher reeve. yah remember that movie? Quote
Agent ONE Posted January 26, 2004 Posted January 26, 2004 Vinnie who??? Dam kids... No kidding... So it looks like everyone thinks this movie sucks other than Oihan right? And the only thing I know about Oihan is that he likes Macross 2 (perhaps over SDF-M <_< )... Hmmm Quote
Blaine23 Posted January 26, 2004 Posted January 26, 2004 Dude, where's my time machine? The trailer was dumbish enough to keep me from spending actual money to see it. I did like how in the trailer, he was multiple ages, redesigned his life, blah blah, etc... yet he always had the same that 70's haircut. My buddy saw it for free a week early and he said I might like it if I saw it on cable when I was drunk. I tend to be more forgiving then. Other than that, I'm just glad my favorite director, Cameron Crowe gave his silly Trucker hat loving ass the boot. I don't want him to ruin a Cameron Crowe flick. Quote

And the only thing I know about Oihan is that he likes Macross 2 (perhaps over SDF-M )... Hmmm Lol! I'm telling ya, I too was skeptical about Ashton Kutcher myself. But I went to go see it cause of the movie is about. And Ashton Kutcher ended up pulling off a serious roll. Did a damn good job of it I think. If it helps, you only get to see Ashton in the last half of the movie. And there are actuallty two ppl who like the movie so far. And as far as me liking Macross II over SDF-M...never really thought about that. Either/or really. And if you remember from AFM, I at one pt said I hated DYRL...tis not the case anymore. Anyway...have you talked to any of your friends, that have seen the movie, to see if they liked it? Quote
GreatMoose Posted January 26, 2004 Posted January 26, 2004 Ah, "Somewhere in Time." Good movie. GREAT date movie! Great soundtrack. Quote

JsARCLIGHT Posted January 27, 2004 Posted January 27, 2004 Any way you slice it this stupid movie made $17 million it's opening weekend... which is a little over double it's production budget. I'm also guessing that the studios spent no coin advertising it as I have yet to see more than that first commercial I saw weeks ago. Sad truth: no matter how crappy a movie is, if it makes money then hollywood loves it. Even sadder truth: If it makes enough money, they make another... Quote
kidkorrupt Posted January 27, 2004 Posted January 27, 2004 i hear the alternate realities he creates are pretty trippy. maybe a good movie to kill some time before the almighty kill bill 2 is released. Quote
Isamu Atreides 86 Posted January 27, 2004 Posted January 27, 2004 Even sadder truth: If it makes enough money, they make another... Butterfly effect 2: the Cocoon effect Ashton tries to save Wilford Brimley and Jessica Tandy from Aliens, with Steve Gutenberg at his side.... Quote

Whether a movie is bad or good if you release it during a slow period you will be number one and have decent openning numbers. Quote
JsARCLIGHT Posted January 27, 2004 Posted January 27, 2004 (edited) Add to that the "insane" (by hollywood terms) low budget of the movie and you have money in the bank. These teen romp/slasher/comedy movies they churn out are easy on the bottom line, go from script to can in a few months, usually feature no-name actors that work for food and have a ready-made brain dead american audience waiting to pay $7.50 a ticket to see them. Say goodbye to hollywood. Say goodbye my baby. Edited January 27, 2004 by JsARCLIGHT Quote
Blaine23 Posted January 27, 2004 Posted January 27, 2004 Yup... this is the "dumping season" for US theatres. The Summer blockbusters and the Spring Wanna-be blockbusters are a little ways off. Also the early Fall Wanna-be Oscar contenders and the late Fall Oscar contenders are over. What is January until April? The occasional good indie film if it gets heat in the Oscar race - the rerelease of Mystic River or Lost In Translation... and alot of movies that have been sitting on the shelf all year long, just waiting to suck. Occasionally one of them isn't terrible and is fun in a campy way. The Buttplug Effect doesn't look like much fun to me. I can tell from it's angsty rap rock trailer that it's a faux-serious flick. I'm 30 years old and I'm a man... why would I want to see this kid attempt to act? Yet, I'll be running to the theater to see the advance screening of The Girl Next Door in a few weeks starring Elisha Cuthbert as a porn star who moves next door to a horny preteen... wacky hilarity and not quite nudity are soon to follow quickly. What can I say? We all have our weaknesses. Quote
Duke Togo Posted January 27, 2004 Posted January 27, 2004 Life is a series of 'hello's" and "goodbye's", I'm afraid its time for goodbye again... Oh, sorry! Quote

NERV Posted January 27, 2004 Posted January 27, 2004 The message board seems to hate every movie Hollywood produces. I swear... thats cuz most of them truely suck, plus there's the fact that most are copies or remakes of other bad movies, everytihng is so generic these days, especially LOTR i have no idea why people like it, its another crappy movie that is made even crappier cuz its twice as long, so twice as crappy Quote

1st Border Red Devil Posted January 27, 2004 Posted January 27, 2004 The message board seems to hate every movie Hollywood produces. I swear... No...only ones that are crappy. I admit I havent seen this movie yet...gotta get to see Cold Mountain first (Im a Civil War reenactor after all....but that is neither here nor there). I had planned on seeing The Butterfly Effect anyway....and if I listened to most of the crowd here I would hate Southern Cross and think all Robotech fans are losers. I dont exactly come here to get unbiased opinions. Quote
