Gooood times..Ahh the 80's.. That sh-t would hurt if it hit your fingernail just right.... Loved it!! Quote

SuperSenpai Posted November 15, 2016 Posted November 15, 2016 The paint on that custom Gakken is great, but the thing that I always gets me is that the custom pilot figure. Quote
derex3592 Posted November 15, 2016 Posted November 15, 2016 I repainted my Gakken figure a few years ago, I'll have to post a pic later, it came out good. Apparently as a kid I slopped a lot of blue Testors paint on it, had to clean all that off. Quote
electric indigo Posted November 15, 2016 Posted November 15, 2016 The 1/35 Fighter is ok, but the Soldier really has a few issues once you take off your nostalgia goggles IMO Quote
SuperSenpai Posted November 15, 2016 Posted November 15, 2016 (edited) The 1/35 Fighter is ok, but the Soldier really has a few issues once you take off your nostalgia goggles IMO The sculpt and paint deficiencies are fairly obvious, but I'd say that the nostalgia for the toy is driven more for the fact that it's durably constructed to withstand actual handling and play. Even with deficiencies -- it's a pretty good representation considering it's a 30 year old design. Edited November 15, 2016 by SuperSenpai Quote
edstuff Posted November 15, 2016 Posted November 15, 2016 30 years old and still more durable than the newer versions Quote
derex3592 Posted November 15, 2016 Posted November 15, 2016 (edited) I agree, there is just as much WRONG with the modern Toynami design as there is right with the Gakken for a 30 year old design, They got it pretty darn close, and it was built like a tank. The only part that bugged me then and now on the Gakken was the "oversized" look of the the missile shoulders in fighter mode. Edit... let's have some Mospeada pics today as well with this new S7 camera! Edited November 15, 2016 by derex3592 Quote
electric indigo Posted November 16, 2016 Posted November 16, 2016 Quite mind-blowing collection you got there. Quote

captain america Posted November 16, 2016 Posted November 16, 2016 The Gakken 1/35 seemed so much bigger back in the day, I guess that's what happens when you get old Quote
derex3592 Posted November 16, 2016 Posted November 16, 2016 Quite mind-blowing collection you got there. Thank you all for the complements! Mostly all due to the watch making man in the above post! Quote
edstuff Posted November 16, 2016 Posted November 16, 2016 Your paint job on the tiny gakken rider is quite impressive. The bigger ones of course too but the amount of detail on the lil guy must have been a pain Quote
derex3592 Posted November 16, 2016 Posted November 16, 2016 (edited) It was basically a side project I just did a little bit at a time while working on other stuff, one of those, I didn't really care if it came out good or not, but in the end it did! To be honest the 1:48 Shapeways MOSPEADA soldier guys I used for my river battle/camp diorama were FAAAR and AWWWAAAY more painful to paint!!! Edited November 16, 2016 by derex3592 Quote

505thAirborne Posted November 17, 2016 Posted November 17, 2016 Ha! I bought the dvds on ebay for like 6 bucks shipped. Been watching it over and over Hopefully you bought the ADV Films DVD's, while watching it on Netflix it's the bloody remastered version and sound effects are horrid! Otherwise a pleasant nostalgic experience! Quote
