jvmacross
Takatoku Toys 1/76 Armored Valkyrie Series Another member of the Takatoku Toys Macross Collection that hardly gets any attention is the 1/76 Armored Valkyrie set. Takatoku Toys released only 2 in this series, a VF-1J Hikaru-Type and a VF-1J Max-Type. The figure is pretty basic, it is more or less about the size of the Large Vinyl toys released by Takatoku, except this set adds "slip-on" GBP armor. If I had to summerize this figure, I would say it was the toy made for the kids who were never going to be able to get their parents to buy them the 1/55 GBP combo set! And those kids were still luckier than the ones who got nothing...or a GBP from Ohsato! Takatoku Toys 1/76 Armored Valkyrie Series - VF-1J Hikaru-Type Other than the Armor...the one cool gimmick that this toy has is the ability to "replicate" the cockpit seat access as seen on the TV show....as far as I can recall, this particular gimmick remained unique to this toy for years until Yamato did it for their V2 1/60 VF-1J via the form of "option parts"... Takatoku Toys 1/76 Armored Valkyrie Series - VF-1J Max-Type The Max-Type Armor set ditches the "dark blue" standard colored GBP included with the Hikaru-Type set with a more olive-grey colored armor.....again.....another "first" in a GBP toy from Takatoku that remained unique until Yamato released "non-canon" colored GBP sets for their 1/48 line of GBP armors decades later...... jenius
Pretty sure this got a Matsuhiro release on white also, as opposed to the Takatoku gray.
jvmacross
LOL...I was going to add that as a "Special Note", but was trying to find an actual pic of it first for reference. I think you even asked me about it once. Do you have a link to a pic? Anyway, the "White" VF-1J Armored Valkyrie is not a Takatoku Toys release so I would not consider it as part of the official Takatoku Macross line of toys. Sort of like the Macross II - Space Fight LCD game, a Takatoku that lost it's "brand" but still found a way into the wild.
jenius
Checked out my old review and found this pic I miss Totoro242, he had a great collection and knew a ton. Edited May 6, 2020 by jenius
jvmacross
OK, yes, that is one of them, I think there was also a blue boxed version, but both had the prominent Chinese writing on the boxes. They were once ubiquitous on eBay, but either the supply or interest in old school Macross toys has all but vanished. I do not collect KO Macross toys for the most part, but that always was one of the more interesting ones.
