jvmacross Posted Thursday at 04:41 AM Posted Thursday at 04:41 AM Nice internal mechanics gimmick... The scene where the missiles pop out like that and take out an entire VF squadron was one of the most memorable of the entire series!!!!!!!! Can't wait for the canon metallic green version to be released!!!!!!!!! Quote

varitechs Posted Thursday at 09:10 AM Posted Thursday at 09:10 AM I "ordered" this one, 28 cm is really a big size, it feels like the Matchbox era 😁 Quote
Big s Posted Thursday at 11:48 AM Posted Thursday at 11:48 AM are they doing a clear canopy, or is this picture just to show the internal details? I kinda always thought it was just a light grey armor piece on the top and bottom. I don’t remember any scenes that showed it clear. I think there was either an alternate color that had it green, but that may have just been a color mistake in the animation. Quote

Zentraedi mecha use sensors and cameras, with big screens in front of the pilots. The only transparent canopies are on the Matchbox toys. 🙄 Quote

A bunch of Robotech stuff seems to name the recovery ship what they’re trying to name the gnerl. I’m not sure if that’s the official Macross name of the recovery ship, but it definitely isn’t the gnerl’s name. They can’t get their colors right, their names come out of nowhere and I have a weird feeling that the gnerl toy is gonna end up with a clear canopy Quote

jvmacross Posted Thursday at 04:46 PM Posted Thursday at 04:46 PM @Seto Kaiba @Seto Kaiba @Seto Kaiba What is the "official" name of this ship in the Macross Universe... I'd have to check my reference books, but thought you may just know off the top of your head....I don't ever recall it being referred to as a Quel-Gulnau...until just recently by the folks producing the tiny gaming kits....but guessing it must be correct and they didn't just make it up... I’d like to know as well, all I’ve found was Zentraedi Recovery Ship as the name on non Robotech searches. Then again I’ve never seen their body armors named either Quote

"Recovery craft" or "Retrieval craft") is the only label ever applied to it in the art books. I don't believe it's been given a name in the Zentradi language, officially. There are several designs that were not given a name in the alien language. Like the medium scale gunboat that Quamzin used at the end of the series, the Zentradi picket/scout ship, or many of the non-battle pod small craft. Quote

The Gnerl does launch missiles....just not how KC plans on implementing....not sure if it would be practical to do it as depicted in the show....still, when not in use, it doesn't seem like it will affect the way the Gnerl should look....although I'm sure when the launchers pop out they will be colored in aqua metallic like how the VF-1 cockpits are painted on their VF-1 line....lol Quote

I don’t remember it ever opening up like that. I may be wrong, but I remember the missiles launching sideways and then they would curve to the target. I was already planning a rewatch of the show to see details about the light body armor dudes, now I gotta watch it to see the gnerl in action. Maybe I should just wait for whatever other obscure item they try to produce, so I just have to do one super watch Quote
jvmacross Posted Thursday at 10:47 PM Posted Thursday at 10:47 PM It seems KC subscribes to the Masami Watanabe school of thought when it comes to Macross mecha....in short, anything goes! Quote

Thanks for confirming...so it seems the Chinese kit company doing the Robotech RPG must be coming up with the names for the Armor types too, as that is when I first saw them receive a name....are there any illustrations for these items that have Zentran writing on them? If so, maybe they are going hard-core and translating from Zentradi....LOL Or maybe these names are coming from the Fanky doujins? Quote

It’s strange because Robotech usually simplified names far more. Like Battle pod or officers battle pod. The only time I remember an actual zentraedi name in the old Robotech might’ve been a weird pronunciation of Queadluun Rau. Quote

They're either coming up with the names themselves or they're using names they've found while researching on Robotech fan sites. There is writing on a number of the pieces of line art for various Zentradi mecha, but they're mostly unit numbers. For example... Using the official guide on Zentradi language from Macross Chronicle, none of them that have writing on them in the line art appear to have anything recognizable as a word. The writing on them, according to Macross Perfect Memory, are unit markings and other identifying marks. The letters under the camera eye are the pilot's initials (L.O.), the numbers written on the side above the leg are the platoon number (T-25, the circle and symbol is the number 20 not 2), and the writing on the hip joint itself is an identification number for that aircraft (appears to be C and then 1025D6). The chevrons on the back of the knees (not seen here) are identified as rank insignia. Similar markings for the same purpose are found on the Nousjadeul-Ger, Queadluun-Rau, etc. The Quel-Quallie appears to have a identification number written on its underside. Neither the Gnerl nor the Recovery Craft have any writing on them in their art. Quote
jenius Posted 23 hours ago Posted 23 hours ago Well, there's a lot of head scratching going on but a compartment with weapons for the pilots sounds fun. Still... seems like he's coming up with ways to make this toy unreasonably expensive instead of just scratching the existing itch at a reasonable price point. Quote
Seto Kaiba Posted 23 hours ago Posted 23 hours ago To add, prior to DYRL?, the instances we see of Zentradi text onscreen are typically just perfectly legible English written in the Zentradi alphabet rather than alien words. For instance, the interior of the Quel-Quallie recon pod has the English words "ESCAPE POD" written over the escape pod hatch in the bottom right corner there. Quote
Big s Posted 11 hours ago Posted 11 hours ago just thought I’d post their alphabet translation from the hasegawa regult, just in case anyone sees something and just wants to try and translate it. Quote
Big s Posted 5 hours ago Posted 5 hours ago As far as some of those made up gimmicks, I really don’t remember ever seeing a gnerl pilot actually get out of their fighter with weapons. To be fair, most just died. But I have no idea where that rifle came from and don’t remember them using tools like an axe or small weapons like a knife. Maybe a few had tools after the big climactic not finale. I really mostly remember surviving zentraedi mecha pilots just using their bare hands after getting their machine trashed. I think the only armed ones were just dude that grabbed a rifle out of their main ship armory if they couldn’t get to something like a regult in time. Although I do remember some odd weopons like something that looked like a shotgun that one of those fed up maintenance workers in a jumpsuit. Quote

Meh....I think the odds are so low in ever seeing the Gnerl get made, that KC can add a toilet gimmick and I'd still buy it if it were to miraculously get produced... Quote

It’s such a simple design, I’m surprised it hasn’t really been done by anything other than garage kit companies. Although I have an odd feeling hasegawa might actually do one, especially if the sales on this toy do any good Quote
