I could very well be wrong, but along with the Daedalus carrier with its simplistic toy-car wheel arrangement, it's possible the thought was to have a toy Macross launching a spring loaded missile.

That's what the text on the artwork says: "missile".*

So yes, the toy was envisioned to have a spring-loaded missile, which is effectively the size of a battleship.

 

* Note that the artwork was only produced for the toy version.  Such a huge missile (or clip on wheel chassis) was never used—or intended to be used—in the TV series.

Wow, great to see there's still interest in the ol' SDF-1. 😲

My inkjet printer is slowly dying, and I don't think I'll be able to print custom decals any more... 💀

However, I bought an SLA resin printer last month, and the detail it's capable of is stunning. 🤩

So as you can see, I've got a ton of new modeling projects to distract me. 😅

This is a great project! I don't often pay attention to the toy side of things, but both ships are shaping up nicely!
