Thanks, but I'm not so sure myself...ย ๐ค As usual, I've been carefully analyzing the anime to confirm the color scheme, and some of the animators interpreted the model sheet line art quite differently from how Moscato did; the "face," in particular. I don't see an oblong sphere protruding from the carapace, but rather an oval mask inset into it. Also, the conical section on top isn't (usually) depicted as a closed triangle, but an open vertical channel that runs all the way down to the antennae... Thus, I carved a similar channel into the "triangle" on top, and hollowed out enough space to mount the face inside the carapace. This also allows a fair degree of articulation, allowing the eye to move up and down, and side-to-side. Finally, the hands are usually depicted bent into a fist, rather than the open hands Moscato provided.ย ย Even the iconic line art pose (and all derivative Imai and Bandai packaging art) show the left hand curled into a fist... ...so I went to the hardware store to acquire some springs of the appropriate diameter. It looked a little better once I coated the springs in cemedine. With these modifications made, the Quincy Rowe is starting to look more familiar.ย Quote
electric indigo Posted November 10, 2023 Posted November 10, 2023 The head mod make squite a difference. Great work! Quote
Big s Posted November 10, 2023 Posted November 10, 2023 So that channel may not go back all the way. The old Imai kit didnโt have it go back at all, but I think they made a mistake since looking head on at just artwork gives it a different look, but you can see it go back if you really pay attention to the art.I thought Iโd compare it to the movie edition from hasegawa and on that it comes back, but not all the waythen this one of the tv version from the back of the head appears to be a similar thing where the channel may not go all the way back. I couldnโt find another rear picture to show it better from the series on a quick search Quote
Big s Posted November 10, 2023 Posted November 10, 2023 Found an overhead picture from the line art and it has a similar design to the groove on the movie version kitso as far as I can find, it looks as if the channel goes back a little and then thereโs a stop and a triangular cut by the antenna side rather than at the front Quote
Goodman Models Posted November 13, 2023 Posted November 13, 2023 The additional head positioning is great! Wish I had thought of that on my build. Quote
tekering Posted November 16, 2023 Posted November 16, 2023 (edited) I'm using a variety of weathering techniques for the armor (drybrushing, chipping, distressing the labels), and I've masked off and painted each panel separately, to allow for slight variances in color tone and condition.ย I'm quite happy with the exterior detailing so far: I'm really not sure what to do with the interior, however.ย ย The animation is frustratingly inconsistent concerning the color scheme. Is it pink and grey? Black and green? Those shoulder braces are a different color in every shot!ย ๐คจ Hell, sometimes they're not colored at all.ย ๐ I guess I'll just have to wing it.ย ๐ On 11/11/2023 at 6:26 AM, Big s said: it looks as if the channel goes back a little and then thereโs a stop and a triangular cut by the antenna side rather than at the front That's some excellent detective work, sir.ย You've proven Imai was wrong, Moscato was wrong, and I was wrong, too. For that interior, you may want to go with a medium gray. The interior in the pinkish one seems to be with a nice super bright day and the darker ones are either in space or in a dark hangar bay. You could add a little purple to give the color a little more of a pop and bit closer to the kit up color, but itโs definitely hard to figure out. Quote
tekering Posted November 24, 2023 Posted November 24, 2023 Well, the interior detailing will have to wait.ย The annual model exhibition is this weekend, and the Q-Rau will be on display with all my other Moscato kits. ย Quote
