This anti-aircraft gun was used in both world wars by both allied and axis forces and is still in use today. Would this head laser have been a nod to the Oerlikon cannon? http://macross2.net/m3/macrossplus/yf-21.htm Armament - Guns: 1 x fixed rear Erlikon AAB-7(.5) super-miniature anti-aircraft laser turret (mounted center dorsal section in Fighter/GERWALK mode, becomes head turret in Battroid mode)

I was working tons of OT when I got my YF-21, so when it arrived I didn't have much time to check it out. I brought it to work for a few days and just marveled at the engineering. I work at an aeronatical college and I had to fight off the "let me see it requests ^_^" LOL, I don't think the average person really gets what goes into the design of these "Airplane Transformers"

How many more times can we expect to see Macross Plus valks hit the market? It's a mfing miracle we're getting DX versions of the OG valks. Aren't there only 3 different valk types that ever appeared in Macross Plus? YF-19, YF-21, and the VF-11B? Since the 19 and 21 have DX versions, we just have the 11B left to go! They were the primary focus, but you also had the Ghost X-9 (which no one has attempted to make outside of custom resin and 3D-printed builds, but I'm waiting to see if Bandai tries it), along with a couple of other designs that pop up here and there in Kawamori's design notes. Two that pop to the top of the list in my head the bomber escort/tanker seen in one of the competition montage sequences, as well as the drones it carried: Granted, I don't think either of those have any reason to transform, so they're not something Bandai would probably ever care about. You also have the Monster that shows up getting blasted by the YF-19, but also not a valk, and Bandai already made them anyhow. However, you also have this guy: An actual trainer model of the VT-17, in markings calling back to the VT-1. I would absolutely love to see that one produced by anyone, even if it has to be a VF-171 version. If we ever get a Sound Force VF-17, I am really hoping we see this as a repaint. Mommar
I don't know, Bandai already proved they couldn't hide that 21 badonk-a-donk. There is no way in hell they're pulling off the 17.

But I did forget they're making a Fire Valk, so who knows at this point.

I had the original Yamato one back in the day but sold it on Ebay in the early 2000s. Funny thing, the hip exploded (not uncommon) when I was transforming it back into battroid mode to ship to the buyer. The buyer was super cool about it and said to ship anyway and not to worry about the damage.

I have to admit, I actually prefer to color of the 11C more than the 11B.... even though I own 2 of Yamato's 11B and only 1 of the 11C. I do wonder what an 11A would look like... and would an 11 exist without an postfix letter? Sorry, I am rambling.

MKT
23 hours ago, Chronocidal said: From what I saw on the one I heated with a space heater to fix, the white marks disappear close to the point where the plastic reaches its melting point. I was able to get rid of my stress mark, but when I brushed my finger against the plastic, it was very limp, so I pushed it too far, and it got too hot. I was able to get it straight for the most part, but what's amusing to me is that the tip of the laser actually bent in the other axis direction, and now the tip is slightly limp. This is what I was afraid of when repairing mine - overheating the plastic & cause it to warp in other ways beyond simple bending. Meanwhile, did a another round of heat treatment & it staying very straight this time. Ultimately the head laser issue is something that can be DIY repaired. I’m now thinking, nothing really comes close to the exploding plastic problem of the CF VF-171 many years ago - that would have been really heartbreaking if parts break on first transformation. But this Yf-21 head laser problem grates more because it happens right out of the box, & the YF-21’s do have higher MSRP so expectations run pretty high. Chronocidal
Youch.. honestly, at that point? I'd be more inclined to clip it off, cut out the warped section and glue it back together before cleaning up the joint.

Chronocidal
Yeah, these issues are not happening in shipping, this is looking like it lands squarely on Bandai's packaging process.

I put mine in boiling water expecting it to soften like pvc figures but it did not move much, if any. Think the part is ABS that you need to go hotter well above water boiling temp to manipulate it. Just working up the courage to give it a shot again with a heat gun, but I’d rather play with my VT-1 received today. That's what it's looking like to me. PointBlankSniper
Some of these look like it couldn't have happened without being yanked out of the injection die while they are still warm... Also, still no word from YYK as conversion rates become rapidly less favorable... It's just shipping, and import tax... but still 😭
MacrossJunkie
I got mine and it's just as bad. After examining the packaging for myself. I have to conclude that the untrained bonobos they used to package these in the factory damaged the head laser at some point before even putting the plastic cover over the tray. There are no signs of denting, stress, or abrasions to the tray covver, aside from some rubbing on the outside of the tray with the box. You can't get this degree of bend without any stress marks to the tray cover from putting the cover on or any jostling or crushing during shipping. It's simply impossible. Frustratingly, I can't find my heat gun anywhere and my hairdryer doesn't get it hot enough to get the plastic soft. I won't be able to fix this unless I can find my heat gun. MacrossJunkie
I found my heat gun and straightened it out. Just toasted it for around 15-20 seconds on both sides over the heat gun and it got really soft. Straightened it out and there's no stress mark at all any more. The top did curve bit. I'll see if I want to bother fixing that later or not. Just out of curiosity, I tried which paints I had matched the color of the head laser the best. It looks like the "Flash Gitz Yellow" Citadel paint was the closest. I used the paint straight out of the pot and painted the whole ring in the pic above. It's close, but just a tad brighter. It only needs a very slight tinge of gray to match if anyone without a heatgun wants to touch up the stress mark with paint. .
MacrossJunkie
Argh... this thing is a total QC piece of crap. I went to put in Guld and found that the part of the canopy that attaches to the hinge is half disintegrated. There wasn't even enough plastic inside the cockpit or anywhere else in the box to make up what should have been there so this too must have happened at the factory. FML, I got a real winner here. Contacted the seller to see if replacement parts can be obtained from Bandai. Or if not, then if a return and exchange would be possible.
