So what Bandai's damage falls within range quality variation excuse actually means is that they will really only send replacements to japan-based purchasers of their DX YF-21 with bent head-lasers...

This is what i was referring to earlier. The domestic market is having a more appropriate response. The rest of the WWM market is SOL.

I say again...

If you are affected by the Bent Head-Laser issue and you're not in Japan, copy and attach the twtter-link and snapshot below when communicating via email with HLJ or whichever Japanese import-shop you acquired your DX YF-21 from.

This is in case you get the standard and stupid "damage falls within quality variation"  lame excuse being used by Bandai to reply to HLJ when inquiring support for the bent head-laser for their overseas purchasers.

Here's the original japanese-tweet link and tweet-snapshot about Bandai support sending out replacement for bent head-lasers of their DX YF-21:

Well, at least there's new hope yet in securing replacement head lasers, & hopefully its Bandai now having a change of mind.

I'm reluctant to think Bandai is forcing customers to contact them directly, screwing over international focused retail outfits like HLJ by telling them its 'within variation', and only giving service to JP domestic customers in a backhanded way to encourage overseas customers to buy from only respective local channels (which Bandai will provide aftersales support to!) in future with that massive mark-up.

@nightmareB4macross Hopefully you get a satisfactory resolution for that broken stabiliser.

Come on guys let's cut Bandai some slack already. Don't you remember the SV-51 ankle debacle? Where Arcadia said having the wrong ankles installed was just a "quality variance" and told everyone outside Japan to piss off?

Bandai is a pretty small company and couldn't possibly handle the cost of replacing all those broken head lasers.

I will say one nice thing about ordering from Amazon US is that the YF-21 is eligible for free return or replacement. So, if it does arrive damaged, it is pretty hassle free to get your money back.

I did have an Amazon pre-order for the YF-21 as a backup in case my order from Japan had problems, but fortunately mine seems fine so I went and cancelled my Amazon pre-order, which was also easy to do.

If only Amazon prices were not so marked up... sigh

Lol, made me remember the time I googled "Bandai net worth" out of sheer curiosity.

Yeah man, just think about the exorbitant shipping costs to send out these replacement lasers, and global warming! /s

Got Bandaid. :(

The arm vertical stabilizer is busted.

Packaging itself is undamaged and shipping was top notch.

I hope I can get a full replacement or an arm with said stabilizer.image.jpeg.104747cfb5b435d9f45620fef568a19a.jpegimage.jpeg.5cc28f9f812bb1a39835698650b0bf61.jpegimage.jpeg.126de1e7c46cd0d50ca83ce70f21c128.jpegimage.jpeg.1be55c1c8e6acb9d5fb2a05d9519dfaa.jpeg

Very disappointing to see so many of these items damaged in box. 😞

The first bandai 1/60 of a YF-21 after what.... nearly 30 years(?) ...surreal......bandai's tampo on DX is unbeatable.

Don't let it go to your head bandai.

Too soon to tell....the items that are part of the WWM release outside of Japan have yet to arrive....if those arrive damaged and the purchasers have no way to replace parts or exchange entire units....then yes, they would be SOL....

Right now you have a situation that has existed since collectors have been buying Macross merch straight from Japan....you buy at your own risk or at most, buy with the hope that the Japanese retailer you purchased from is willing to be your middleman in working directly with the manufacturer to get your item repaired or replaced.....nothing new here....all WWM does is make it so you can buy Macross directly from your home country....with the assumption being that you should be able to now have some level of consumer protection that was not available before...in theory....

We will find out soon enough...

Want to see how many lasers are damaged

Me too....but more importantly I want to see how Bandai will handle damage claims outside of Japan....hopefully they don't throw retailers under the bus and make them eat the losses...

I asked YYK for inspection as suggested. They said they shipped out a handful that turned out to have issues, so they will now inspect everything and send photo after. If something is wrong, they will heckle bandai for replacements before shipping them out. Seems like inspections are expected to be done by monday.

The wording almost sounds like they will inspect every unit on hand, but it would be weird to recieve a photo and an open box without opting in. Don't know how they are actually going about it, but it can't hurt to ask them for inspection if you haven't already.

Well, here is the link provided by the vendor.

https://www.bandai.com/returns-replacements

Submitted my claim. Replacement parts take 6-8 weeks. :(

Hopefully, I get my part. It will have to be a full arm as it does not seem that you can only replace the joint without destroying the forearm while trying to take it apart.

Wish me luck.

Honestly, I think your vendor should replace the whole thing since you clearly have a very very damaged item still in box.

But, nevertheless,

Good luck!!!

edit:

fwiw, I see two seemingly separate damaged/broken parts on your toy (arm-wing/stabilizer and what looks like the damper panel sliding part)

As an aside and maybe minor regarding the Bandai-Namco return/replacement form:

I haven't checked my DX YF-21 box, but I'm not sure there is any Bluefin related sticker(s) on it since it's an import...

This will be our first domestic warranty experience with officially legal Macross merch from Bandai in the USA...

I'm wishful Bandai will cover damaged items and take care of their customers.

The other thing I'm concerned now is that they probably just check the antenna area only after opening the boxes, seeing that there might be some obvious ones which they might miss. At this point, for me, it is what it is for this release. All I'm hoping now is that if ever the item arrived with some damage inside which they missed inspecting, they will still be able to help us even if I need to send back the item to them.

Box got a bit crushed since I ship it with some more stuff but I seems that wasn't a problem.

I actually mentioned broken stabilizer and double left shoulders to them, and they did say there were "issues", plural despite ambiguous, reported to them. So when they say they will "inspect everything", I take it that it will be more than just a sloppy glance for crooked yellow.

I'm not sure how feasible it is for them to actually look for the wrong shoulder on every unit, or if they even know how to open up the toy to look for it, but my understanding is that they will at least meticulously look up and down the whole thing. If the shoulders are as simple as flipping open the belly plates to see, maybe someone can instruct them on it. But I don't have another copy, so I don't even know which way the correct part on each side is supposed to face in fighter mode lol 🙃

There is no Bluefin sticker. So anyone importing is SOL.

That’s the message I got.

Thanks. I hope they find nothing too serious other than the head fin issue.

It's the only order I have so fingers crossed.

IMHO, Bandai's is definitely more complicated, but I enjoy transforming it more than the Yamato. Maybe it's because of the age, but my Yamato has gotten all loose and floppy, the paint on the die-cast parts has started peeling, and the plastic just feels more fragile. Definitely would like a V2, if that's even remotely possible...

Thanks @Actar also @no3Ljm for your opinions on these two YF-21's. I think for now I'll just be leaving these guys in Fighter mode. That said, if down the road I can pick up a Yamato 21 or another DX 21... maybe, maybe then I'll take the plunge & transform it.

Has there been more than one report of the double shoulders? I don't think it's a widespread issue.

I saw two replies to the original tweet that claimed to have the same issue, so it's not a one off even if not very common. That's 2 out of 3 replies, plus the OP, for a tweet with 5 retweets, and 21 likes. Judging by the sample size, amount of engagement and visibility that post actually got, and the nature of that defect, I think it's a reasonable possibility the issue could be under the radar for now.

Hopefully that's just confirmation bias while it's actually a rare occurence.

mine took a dive from my desk to wooden floor because I was careless when I swung my chair around.  It did blow off a few pieces but found everything to put back together.  nothing broken.  The bad part is that it got a stress mark on the right wing tip right at the bend, but the GOOD part, is I heated that area up with a hair dryer and after a few minutes, the stress mark disappeared like magic!

Are they somehow affiliated with BlueFin or BandaiNamco-US to be even referring you to that form???

Your item was severely damaged inside the box.

They either need to replace your item themselves or refund you your purchase cost, instead of giving you that runaround with a non-applicable form.
