TangledThorns Posted July 19, 2019 Posted July 19, 2019 Showed the trailer to my almost five year old daughter and she loves it! Really wants to see the movie now. The director is really good so this may be better than it looks. Quote
tekering Posted July 19, 2019 Posted July 19, 2019 So, rather than using famous people in costumes, they've created computer-generated characters that look like... famous people in costumes? Quote
Chronocidal Posted July 19, 2019 Posted July 19, 2019 To be fair, it was probably cheaper and less labor intensive than applying that sort of heavy makeup across the entire cast, or constructing properly scaled sets. Doesn't mean it's not using the uncanny valley as a Tony Hawk level. Quote
Mommar Posted July 19, 2019 Posted July 19, 2019 If I want to see a Cats movie all I need to do is go to youtube. Quote
Chronocidal Posted July 19, 2019 Posted July 19, 2019 Dangit.. now I'm picturing the entire thing done up MST3K style with entirely meme-based dialogue. Quote

I hadn't thought of it that way, but you're probably right. Makeup and costumes for the dozens of characters shown would add up quickly. They CG *everything* now, even for something as basic as "stock footage of a helicopter flying over a desert", because it's cheaper to CG it from scratch, than to license the actual stock footage... Is Taylor Swift the only one wearing shoes? That looked odd, when all the others were "naked"... Quote

Ah, but they DID go to the trouble of constructing the massive sets, see... Quote
David Hingtgen Posted July 19, 2019 Posted July 19, 2019 Thread needs more pics: Anyone got a screen cap of Ian McKellan? That one's gold. Quote

technoblue Posted July 21, 2019 Posted July 21, 2019 Curious, although I wish they had been able to keep the cat noses from the musical. Quote

Seto Kaiba Posted July 22, 2019 Posted July 22, 2019 Between this and Sonic the Hedgehog, 2019 seems to have bought a condo in the Uncanny Valley. This looks as bad, if not worse, than Mike Myers as The Cat in the Hat. Quote

Cats was a Lovecraftian horror show... a wound upon the real, a furtive glance into a nightmare realm of Things Which Should Not Be. Watching it was like taking a day trip to Innsmouth while on some particularly bad shrooms. Quote
