Bolt Posted May 1, 2019 Posted May 1, 2019 Here it is! This kit is clean and well made. Also, beautifully packaged. All the parts are vacuum sealed with multiple layers of bubble wrap between them.. I was also thinking about the 20 entries prize , but didn’t consider multiple entries.. Thanks to @tekering being an animal, I’m gonna dig thru some more gems today and see about another entry. At the very least , I’ll post some in the show off your model collection thread.. Cheers! Quote
tekering Posted May 1, 2019 Posted May 1, 2019 Awesome, Bolt. Looking forward to this one. So, like, is anybody building anything that isn't 1:72...? Quote
Return To Kit Form Posted May 2, 2019 Posted May 2, 2019 (edited) Great entry Bolt! Tekeing 1/72 is the one scale to rule them all... Edited May 3, 2019 by Return To Kit Form Quote
Bolt Posted May 4, 2019 Author Posted May 4, 2019 (edited) Everything washed and accounted for. Time to get to work.. Edited May 4, 2019 by Bolt Quote
Bolt Posted May 8, 2019 Author Posted May 8, 2019 (edited) Using one of these as the base for the Armored kit.. Cleaned and glued up some for test fitting.. Edited May 8, 2019 by Bolt Quote
Return To Kit Form Posted May 10, 2019 Posted May 10, 2019 Looking good Bolt. I'm definitely regretting not getting one when I could! Cheers, Brett Quote
Bolt Posted May 12, 2019 Author Posted May 12, 2019 (edited) Working on some of the lower half now.. The upper thigh/hip guards are a bit tight, need some carving.. You can see , in this blurry pic, the holes need to line up, and don’t. Almost there with one.. Phew! Almost busted out the dremmel tool..still need to fill and sand out seems on the Hasegawa. In due time.. More sprues to cut off and cut down, & preping for sanding, etc. Todays work! Edited May 12, 2019 by Bolt Quote
tekering Posted May 12, 2019 Posted May 12, 2019 Wow, proportions and detailing is all wrong. This is starting to look less like the GPB armor, and more like... an IDW Transformers design or something. Quote
Bolt Posted May 12, 2019 Author Posted May 12, 2019 (edited) It’s quite a stylized version, indeed.. As much as it’s not line art accurate, I really like the liberties taken with the design. It’s much more realistic, IMO, the original design is so chunky, a VF wouldn’t be able to walk Dont get me wrong, I’ll always love the original. Just sayin Edited May 12, 2019 by Bolt Quote
Bolt Posted May 12, 2019 Author Posted May 12, 2019 (edited) I love the smell of old resin off gassing. Smells like Victory I feel blessed to be working on such a nice and highly (2 of them!) detailed resin model! Here I’m feeling like using the Hasegawa super and strike parts on the resin boosters. I like the chunky uppers and it furthers my customizing fetish Edited May 12, 2019 by Bolt Quote

Bolt Posted May 15, 2019 Author Posted May 15, 2019 (edited) Rainy day here in Cali. Had some time to kill, so.. Hinges! Gotta cut these little buggers off the sprews carefully. I DO NOT want to loose these , break them, over trim them or fubar them in any way! Test fitting them, they fit good but loose..I glue in the pegged piece and, once it’s dried, add a thin coat of glue to the pegs so the female end will fit tighter.. I’ll clean these up while I’m waiting for glue to dry.. All cleaned up and test fitting booby missiles. COMPLETELY off topic.. my son doing his first (all by himself) HG Gundam Kit. While I work on my resin ki. Is it weird my 6 year old prefers Macross to RT? Amd now glue dried and trimmed to fit tight. Then test fit everything for final inspection! Missile bay doors stay open all by themselves! And close too! who wouldn’t want functional missile bay doors? See you next Deculture! Edited May 16, 2019 by Bolt Quote
Bolt Posted May 19, 2019 Author Posted May 19, 2019 (edited) Had a little time today.. scribing nooks and crannies to reveal clean lines, booger free.. All these parts are castings of the same sculpt for each set. Obviously, it makes sense to do so but.. The Arm guards will just need some cutting and sanding for the sake of symmetry . But the left shoulder has a good size gap that will require extra attention.. And the armored missile shoulders are beveled on the same side on the inside, which may require some adjustments for a symmetrical fit.. These also need some work, cutting out flashing and booger’s.. This one (below pic) is a little bit fubar. Not sure how I’m gonna fix it yet.. Next episode will be a lot of sanding and test fitting.. Edited May 24, 2019 by Bolt Quote
Bolt Posted May 23, 2019 Author Posted May 23, 2019 (edited) Hadn’t had as much time last few days, I was able to get a start on some sanding and cleaning the other night.. It can be slow going and I often find myself getting lost in crevices and valleys under high end magnification..I like to have the tray of water underneath for easy rinsing and keeping nasty dust way down.. I’ve made some of my own minor repairs here and there that are now ready for final shaping and sanding.. But in some areas , I see qc had stepped in and did their own final repairs and fill with a clear and , in some places, white resin, before vacuum sealing everything. Very impressive! And a major time saver! Phew! The lower half took hours, nonetheless. I’m hoping to finish sanding and rinsing the rest of the kit in my next session.. That’s the scoopuda for now. Cheers! Return To Kit Form Posted May 25, 2019 Posted May 25, 2019 Good progress Bolt! It is a good idea to use the tray of water for sanding. It makes things easier, cleaner and safer. Yep, including this kit in the comp was a good move. There is tons of work to be done there. Cheers, Brett Quote
Bolt Posted May 25, 2019 Author Posted May 25, 2019 Thanks man. It’s a fun kit, with a good amount of work ahead, just keeping on the momentum! Cheers! Quote

I'd be tempted to shave of all the missile heads and replace them with Kotobukiya pieces or recasts of the good ones. This would also simplify the painting process. Quote
Bolt Posted May 26, 2019 Author Posted May 26, 2019 Not a bad idea! I’ll look into it. Thanks for the suggestion! Quote
Bolt Posted June 3, 2019 Author Posted June 3, 2019 Still working on this, lots of sanding and filling.. Also.. Here’s some sketches I did this weekend as possible custom squadron markings working out ideas.. Quote
Bolt Posted June 20, 2019 Author Posted June 20, 2019 (edited) Ok, phew.. between work and Salmon season, been having long days. Believe it or not. So, masking last few bits, like the head visor on the Hasegawa. Then had to rebuild the angled bits on the thighs after sanding.. Havent touched the gunpod yet, getting to it eventually. But I’m considering a custom jobbie... And a handful of pieces to work over before everything is primed.. Might be a double strike.. Been thinking about @electric indigo suggestion and shaving off the missile heads to replace with alternates. But I haven’t found any that work in my 1/72 kits. Not ready to outsource for those..And I’m considering missiles firing effect for a dynamic action finished look anyway. For now , I’m filling out the one that is FUBAR and will try to recut it into the right shape.. Everything else is worked over and primed. Next step is secondary assembly and paint prep.. I really like the grey look! I think I’ll give the Hasegawa bits and the oversized shoulders the low viz treatment. The armored parts will be something else, I believe, that needs to compliment. (Starting to ponder the base or diorama jobbie..) Well, that was days and hours of work! More to go. More to come. See you next Deculture Edited June 20, 2019 by Bolt Quote
Bolt Posted June 20, 2019 Author Posted June 20, 2019 Yes it does! Getting it this far is only half the work! The other half is painting and detailing and weathering, oh my! Quote

Bolt Posted June 22, 2019 Author Posted June 22, 2019 Did a late night hack job, as an experiment for a possible custom mod on the gun pod. Going for the underslung grenade launcher look here. So..I took one of the auxiliary bazookas from the Thunderbolt psycho Zaku (come on , that thing just has way too many bazookas!) and went at it..I would add a second trigger in the forward trigger guard space.. So why didn’t anyone tell me I had the rear end upside down in the last post?! Haha, I almost broke it apart before I remembered it spins easily on the pc insert (duh!) Another thing that drives me insane for a minute ..no strap! Not in either of my kits! Is it me, or what? The strap is clearly shown and labeled in the instructions. So I find some random rubber piece out by the garbage and (wash it..) cut it to length (looks a little long for now) and trim the thickness down on each end for a good fit onto the pegged pieces. The ammo pack might be too much, but it’s more realistic. And I would maybe add a second ammo pack to the body of the armor or batroid somewhere.. Still mulling it over.. Quote
MechTech Posted June 27, 2019 Posted June 27, 2019 This is looking COOL! Love the opening missile hatches. - MT Quote

arbit Posted July 16, 2019 Posted July 16, 2019 We need these competitions more often! Never saw so many Macross resin builds at one time. Awesome Quote

Bolt Posted October 30, 2019 Author Posted October 30, 2019 (edited) Well, I'm quite bummed.. Been out of power since Saturday. Still no power. Was all set up to continue final progress through the weekend and week. But still no power. No lights, no air brush, no nothin..really bad timing..harsh Smokey lighting is not cutting it.. So here's where it's at now. Might as well post what I've got. I have many more pictures of progress but I'm just posting these as it's incomplete..needs much more clean up and details. And decals, etc..very disapoonted I couldn't finish.. oh well.. u other parts are painted or primed. But not in the pics.. Edited October 30, 2019 by Bolt Quote
jenius Posted October 30, 2019 Posted October 30, 2019 Bummer! That thing is looking super unique, I look forward to the completed pics. I was without power for 36 hours and it felt way too long. Hope life gets back to normal for you ASAP. - Quote
tekering Posted October 31, 2019 Posted October 31, 2019 I propose we extend the deadline. Unforeseen circumstances shouldn't prevent you from being able to compete, and I want to see a lot more of your pics! Why have you been without power all week? Quote
