Big s Posted March 14, 2022 Posted March 14, 2022 Well, it’s about time. I really like this show and I’m curious how that cliffhanger is gonna work out Quote
pengbuzz Posted March 16, 2022 Posted March 16, 2022 Last I saw of this, a huge chunk of the Moon was hurtling at Earth. Unless they took a really long hiatus, I'm guessing I missed a lot, huh? Quote

I’m just glad that a good chunk of the shows I like are finally coming back Quote
technoblue Posted June 27, 2022 Author Posted June 27, 2022 The third season starts with more music and dancing, so this show is still in its groove. I’m working my way through the episodes slowly so that I can take more time to enjoy it, but last night I finally finished episode 5. No spoilers, just giving a quick update. Quote
jvmacross Posted June 27, 2022 Posted June 27, 2022 Netflix keeps flaking out for me....it's the only streaming services that fails from time to time....was only able to make it to episode 3 but liking it so far.... Quote
sqidd Posted June 27, 2022 Posted June 27, 2022 Wife and I marathon'd it yesterday. I rate it with the other season. Entertaining and worth watching but nothing to knock your socks off. Except for the abs on gravity girl....... Quote
Thom Posted June 30, 2022 Posted June 30, 2022 Another fun season from the Umbrella Academy. They never fail in the whole 'fun family dysfunction' thing. Overall, it was as good as the previous seasons, though I don't think it was any better. Quote

From my POV, that’s a good thing, especially since it’s doing its own thing as an adaptation of the Dark Horse graphic novels. Both have their own unique voice. And that ending gave room for another continuation, which I wasn’t expecting. Now I hope they get that 4th season. Quote
jvmacross Posted June 30, 2022 Posted June 30, 2022 Finished the 3rd season.....enjoyed it for the most part....for those that have read the comics...is the show caught up with it more or less...or does the comic go beyond the events of S3? Quote

Basically. There are three collected volumes for the comics that are published and one spin-off. They do their own thing but loosely follow the same events as the Netflix series. For instance, the comics give hero nicknames to all the main characters and have villains for them to fight in the main story. Volume 3 of the comic introduced the Sparrows but doesn’t give a deep dive into their background like the series. I’ve read that the plan was to introduce Sparrow Academy in detail with volume 4 of the comics but it isn’t out yet. The new volume was announced a couple years ago (2020). Quote
Mog Posted July 21, 2022 Posted July 21, 2022 Just finished Season 1 (I know). Dumb question: I wonder if the future before Number Five ditched The Handler (after being moved up to management) would have averted the apocalypse? Everyone has a fairly happy ending. And Vanya still discovers the journal, but there would be (theoretically) no gorilla boy to trap her. Quote

At the end of season 1, something like that happy timeline is possible… On the other hand, there are so many other variables at play, and we didn’t get to see much of the revised present-day timeline that the Handler intended to use as her main reset. Something else could have come up to cause things to go sideways. I’ll leave it at that to avoid potential season 2 and 3 spoilers. Quote
eXis10z Posted July 21, 2022 Posted July 21, 2022 Just finished s3 and boy is vanya annoying. I find that character exceeding annoying. Quote

Well, Netflix changed a lot for the show. I suggest taking a look at the comic, if you’re willing and want a different perspective of the events and characters. As for me, I’ve enjoyed both interpretations. It will be interesting to see where the story goes if we get a season 4. Quote

Mog Posted July 31, 2022 Posted July 31, 2022 Didn’t realize that Lester Pocket is actually Leoben from BSG. Dude tends to be cast in those slightly creepy roles. Quote
Thom Posted July 31, 2022 Posted July 31, 2022 I miss Vanya. I wish they hadn't gotten rid of her. Quote

Big s Posted November 11, 2023 Posted November 11, 2023 I thought the last season was the last season Quote
Thom Posted July 9 Posted July 9 I like this series, so I'm watching it already, but the end of the world... again..? That seems like a rut. Quote
Mog Posted August 16 Posted August 16 Finally watched the final season. While there are some funny moments, the season misses the mark and sometimes feels like a retread. There’s a few twists that should have been developed more. Klaus’ side mission felt tacked on and utterly disconnected from everything else. For all his skills, Five is still a big screw up. Spoiler Ben gets the shaft again storywise. Wish we got more backstory for Jennifer too, so we could actually wind up caring more about her. I do wish more of the side characters were brought into the story. Again, they’re fun a-holes to watch interact. But the whole multiverse and time-travel plot devices have been overdone at this point (not just for this show but for entertainment in general). Quote
Knight26 Posted August 20 Posted August 20 Caught the last season, anti-climactic ending for sure (which honestly fit the series). And, I echo @Mog's comments. It felt rushed. The earlier seasons were 10 episodes, which gave plenty of time for character development and making side-stories that actually flowed. Quote
Thom Posted August 21 Posted August 21 They had six episodes, which was more then enough time to do a good story, without the needless side-quests that added nothing to the overall plot. I did like it up until about episode 4. As usual, their character interactions were great as they are truly at their dysfunctional best. But then... Spoiler ...we get the sudden 'romance' between Five and Lila, which just added useless drama, and a love triangle trope that I just hate. We get Luther and Diego taking a needless jaunt through the CIA and gaining basically nothing for it, and Klaus' repaying a debt to a biker by being a medium/prostitute..? Get rid of those, and they could have come up with a better ending than a super-sized monster stolen from Stranger Things. Oh, and a total reset by making sure they never existed, that basically erases all four seasons! I don't know about anyone else, but I don't like endings that make the entire show amount to nothing. A lot of potential, but this is like the runner just about to win the marathon, and tripping over his own feet. Quote
Mog Posted August 21 Posted August 21 I actually didn’t mind Spoiler Luther and Diego’s CIA side quest. It showed that Luther has some intelligence and gave Diego a much needed kick in the pants to appreciate what he had on the homefront. Plus, it shows that Luther figure out something that was right under Five’s nose. . . . And gave the two boys a fun butt-whuppin’ moment. Still wish we could have had a side-story with Sloane. And wish someone would call out Five for him always running/blinking away when crap hits the fan. And after Klaus’ growth in Season 3, he deserved better than this useless, tangential dreck. Wish we could have also seen Allison’s breakup with her hubby. And more of Reginald’s wife. Hell, there’s a whole laundry list of additional things I wished they focused on more. Quote
Knight26 Posted August 21 Posted August 21 With 10 episodes, they could have made the side missions and that other thing work better (though I agree it was unnessecary); tie them back into the main story. The final "villian" reveal was out of left field. As for the ending, it fit , but needed to be done better. Quote
