Bolt Posted August 11, 2018 Posted August 11, 2018 This isn't breaking news but it IS something I'm looking forward to. with a ton of creative talent , and the budget Netflix can bring forth, I am expecting all 10 episodes to satisfy. I just hope the writers they've chosen can pull it off.. Quote
Dynaman Posted August 11, 2018 Posted August 11, 2018 Even though I'm not a big fan of The Dark Crystal (it was decent, worth a watch, nothing spectacular) I'm going to watch this when it comes on. Netflix has done some great stuff with less, Lost in Space comes to mind. Quote
TangledThorns Posted August 11, 2018 Posted August 11, 2018 I wonder where this series is at? Hadn't heard anything new since last year :/ Quote
Bolt Posted August 11, 2018 Author Posted August 11, 2018 I haven't seen a release date anywhere but the production crew are mostly all Hensen collaborators, including the original conceptual designer. It's going to be worthy , I think. Quote
dragonstar1982 Posted August 11, 2018 Posted August 11, 2018 As a big fan of the dark crystal, I'm really excited for this Quote
technoblue Posted August 11, 2018 Posted August 11, 2018 (edited) I really enjoyed the Dark Crystal, as well. It had a very unique ending which impressed itself on my younger self. I like to rewatch the movie once a year these days. Hm. Now that I think more on it... given the Gelfling situation at the beginning of the original movie, this could be tough to watch. Big s Posted August 13, 2018 Posted August 13, 2018 Hopefully we get some news soon, I’ve been excited about this since last year and hopefully it’s gonna live up to my expectations. Quote
apptt4 Posted August 15, 2018 Posted August 15, 2018 the movie holds a special place for me too. with the talent onboard let's hope there's a story worth telling Quote
505thAirborne Posted December 19, 2018 Posted December 19, 2018 Nice, I'm looking forward to this! And to know it's actual puppets not CGI... even better. Quote
Thom Posted December 19, 2018 Posted December 19, 2018 Loved the original and can't wait to see this. One thing, I was hoping for a sequel and not a prequel, but oh well.. Quote
Bolt Posted December 19, 2018 Author Posted December 19, 2018 A local puppet maker (yes people still do that!) was able to work on some of the characters at Henson studios. They look great! There sure was a lot of name dropping , as far as the voice acting cast. I hope everyone mentioned is on. No surprise Mark Hamill is in the mix..he’s done so much over the years! Quote
TangledThorns Posted December 19, 2018 Posted December 19, 2018 Hope the story is good and not full of genocide. Quote

Genocide was a defining trait of the Skeksis, and the whole structure of Thra society was based on it. Quote
Mazinger Posted December 19, 2018 Posted December 19, 2018 I do hope that they don't completely rule out the use of technology to overcome limitations in having the puppets move particularly during scenes that require a range to be crossed or speed. I think puppetry can be amazing for intimate, close up shots, but once a chase ensues, it becomes very obvious that these are constructs wobbling on top of platforms. A tiny, little bit of CG could go a long way to blending all those limitations away. Anyways I'm happy just to get more Dark Crystal, my oldest kid is eager to see. The wife however can't watch evern old school Star Trek due to uncanny valley issues and thinks this will give the kids nightmares. I had to get sneaky to show my kids Labyrinth. They enjoyed it, but she wasn't happy that I showed it to them. Quote
electric indigo Posted December 19, 2018 Posted December 19, 2018 I love to see more of the Dark Crystal world, but being a prequel, it will lead to something quite gruesome. Quote
Thom Posted December 20, 2018 Posted December 20, 2018 If I recall correctly, in the original there were only two Gelflings left..? So, the three in this one... Quote
Big s Posted December 20, 2018 Posted December 20, 2018 It is a prequel, so there could be more. Quote

electric indigo Posted December 21, 2018 Posted December 21, 2018 It's the Rogue One scenario. Somebody needs to get that shard to Aughra. "GARTHIM!" Quote
TangledThorns Posted December 23, 2018 Posted December 23, 2018 The Dark Crystal is on Amazon Prime. Hope my four year girl doesn't find it too scary. Quote
Bolt Posted December 23, 2018 Author Posted December 23, 2018 Might be a bit much for a four year old. Best rewatch and decide before you scare her. I thought my 6 year old could handle .. Lol. Quote
Mazinger Posted December 23, 2018 Posted December 23, 2018 (edited) I think I was 8 when I saw it. I remember thinking, aw man, this thing has puppets in it! I'm too old for puppets! And then they showed the Skeksis. Funny, how all thoughts of puppets being silly flew right out the door. Edited December 23, 2018 by Mazinger Quote

electric indigo Posted May 30, 2019 Posted May 30, 2019 They captured & expanded the look of the original movie amazingly well. I wonder if they actually integrate the movie events into the series instead of asking you to watch a 36 year old film after you finish the episodes. Quote
TangledThorns Posted May 30, 2019 Posted May 30, 2019 Looks better than I imagined!! FYI the original Dark Crystal is currently on Netflix too. Quote
Duymon Posted May 31, 2019 Posted May 31, 2019 All of Netflix'es budget went to Dark Crystal which is why the nilfgards in Witcher look like they're wearing trashbags Quote
Big s Posted May 31, 2019 Posted May 31, 2019 I don’t know anything about milf guards in trash bags, but I cannot wait for August for Dark Crystal Quote
