kajnrig Posted April 6, 2019 Posted April 6, 2019 It's totally the framerate. Instead of locking to key poses for a longer period of time and using an animation shortcut between them to impart a sense of movement, the studio chose to simply render fewer frames across an entire animation. It's way easier and more cost-effective (which is why you see it used a lot nowadays), but doesn't look nearly as convincing because more of those extraneous in-between poses stay on screen for longer. For my part, after seeing the first... 2?... episodes, I don't know why they didn't just do this in live action with a really high CGI budget. It's not like they didn't already fully mo-cap the scenes and aren't slavishly recreating the look and feel (and acting caliber) of low-budget tokusatsu shows. They could also surely have saved some money by not modeling all of Tokyo down to the finest detail... Quote
TangledThorns Posted April 6, 2019 Posted April 6, 2019 Though I enjoy the series the CG work is odd and will make it age horribly, even after a few years. Quote
RavenHawk Posted April 6, 2019 Posted April 6, 2019 I've been legitimately impressed by the fight choreography. Quote
Fusion Posted April 23, 2019 Posted April 23, 2019 I'm confused why Ultraman is human sized and just armored now. Quote
eXis10z Posted April 24, 2019 Posted April 24, 2019 (edited) That's the child who inherited Ultraman genes from the father who was Ultraman so the kid has enhanced strength, flight, etc. The suit was built specifically for him to further utilise those powers against alien threat. mikeszekely Posted April 24, 2019 Posted April 24, 2019 I'm aware of Ultraman and the cultural phenomenon he is in Japan, but this show was my first experience consuming any Ultraman content. And while, as others have noted, the CGI animation is awful, I really enjoyed the show overall. I gather this is based on a manga that's still ongoing, so hopefully we get another season. Quote
Dynaman Posted June 14, 2019 Posted June 14, 2019 I could live without it but I'll be watching it when it makes it on Netflix. Hopefully they get some large monsters in the mix - though it just isn't quite the same without the destruction of real model buildings by guys in rubber suits. Quote
eXis10z Posted October 3, 2019 Posted October 3, 2019 The other ultra suits in the manga which hopefully will appear in the Netflix season 2. Quote
Fusion Posted October 3, 2019 Posted October 3, 2019 So how are they able to make ultra suits? I always thought ultraman was ultraman because he's part of that alien. Quote

Dynaman Posted May 15, 2021 Posted May 15, 2021 I posted about this over on the Streaming thread (forgot about this one). Sounds dreadful from the description at SyFy and not related to the TV series - which I would watch a second season of. Quote
TangledThorns Posted April 9, 2022 Posted April 9, 2022 Looks way bigger in action and scope than the first season! Quote
Bolt Posted April 19, 2022 Posted April 19, 2022 (edited) Haven't seen season 2 yet, b ut I'm looking forward to it. Edited April 19, 2022 by Bolt Quote
mikeszekely Posted April 20, 2022 Posted April 20, 2022 It's been so long since the first season that I think I need to re-watch it before watching the second season. Quote
no3Ljm Posted April 22, 2022 Author Posted April 22, 2022 ThreeZero is releasing a 1/6 Ultraman Suit Taro. Quote

davidwhangchoi Posted February 3, 2023 Posted February 3, 2023 They showed Shin Ultraman in theatres a few weeks ago and i went to see it for a friend who is a huge fan. my first time watching anything Ultraman and it was pretty good. I was told it was a reboot of the first ever Ultraman. Good stuff. Quote
Dynaman Posted February 4, 2023 Posted February 4, 2023 Would be nice if we get a giant Ultraman in the final season of the show. Quote
Dynaman Posted November 11, 2023 Posted November 11, 2023 From exhilaration from a Kaiju size Ultraman to "what the heck is with those body proportions" to "this looks like utter garbage". All in the space of one minute and thirty-eight seconds... Quote
mikeszekely Posted November 11, 2023 Posted November 11, 2023 Disappointing to see Ultraman go from a pretty good anime to yet another generic CGI kiddie film. Quote
