Mommar Posted March 6, 2019 Posted March 6, 2019 20% on everything??? Which two XL’s would one recommend? Quote

Sanity is Optional Posted March 6, 2019 Posted March 6, 2019 Well, they got me for 4 more BSG ships. Viper II, Cylon Raider, Galactica (classic) and the base star. Quote
easnoddy Posted March 6, 2019 Posted March 6, 2019 Expired 2 hours after the post, not 4. Oh well, they could have had some business. Quote
mechaninac Posted March 6, 2019 Posted March 6, 2019 ^ Well, my original post did state "less than 4 hours to go..." I'm positive there will be other similar opportunities in the not too distant future; Easter more than likely. Quote
sh9000 Posted March 6, 2019 Posted March 6, 2019 I would have considered getting the XL Enterprise D but it wasn’t available. I’m good anyway. Quote

Dobber Posted March 6, 2019 Posted March 6, 2019 (edited) Nah, I have the E-C too. While it is by far the best sculpt of the Enterprise version of the Ambassador class, the paint application leaves much to be desired. The “grid” on the secondary hill doesn’t line up well and the the color demarcation is off between the upper and lower half of the secondary hull. Like they used 2 different base coats. A repaint of the model would make it it an amazing replica of the E-C though. Chris Edited March 6, 2019 by Dobber Quote
Dobber Posted March 7, 2019 Posted March 7, 2019 I have the xl Akita class on preorder with EM, but I wonder why it is no longer on their site? All other models are there even if they are out of stock. Weird. Chris Quote
Sildani Posted March 21, 2019 Posted March 21, 2019 Love the Aventine, hate how Eaglemoss cheaped out on the paint apps for the warp nacelles and the absolutely lifeless deflector dish. So I painted up one nacelle to see if I could do something about that. The blue is dark; it’s what I had on hand and this is a proof-of-concept to see if it even looked better. I sourced some decals for the deflector from a guy on eBay; I’ll apply one when I muster the courage and report back. What do you all think? Quote
Dobber Posted March 21, 2019 Posted March 21, 2019 Looks great! Would love the deflector decals too. Chris Quote

Sildani Posted March 28, 2019 Posted March 28, 2019 Partwork USS Enterprise-D available. About 25” long when complete, has full lights. https://en-us.eaglemoss.com/build-star-trek-uss-enterprise?utm_source=facebook&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=se0_default&utm_media_code=FBP8 Quote
derex3592 Posted March 28, 2019 Posted March 28, 2019 Interesting idea....wonder what the price will end up being? Warp engines look horrible in the video, they didn't use smooth or extra smooth LED tape like they should have. Shouldn't have hotspots in the nacelles. In other news, I ordered the cool waterslide decal for the Aventime and I ordered the Space Dock directly from Eaglemoss, it was $5 off the other day. I'll post pics when it comes in. Also pre-ordered the Enterprise F Online Game Edition. Quote
Mommar Posted March 28, 2019 Posted March 28, 2019 Another oddity that I might buy because it's just weird. The Concept Excelsior is up for Pre-order at BBTS. https://www.bigbadtoystore.com/Product/VariationDetails/91174 Quote

It doesn’t even have the saucer rim windows ala Ten Forward ect! Chris Quote
David Hingtgen Posted March 28, 2019 Posted March 28, 2019 Yeah, I have a TON of issues with that Ent-D. For its size, it should have a much more accurate sculpt/detailing (I have issues with the overall hull shape, mainly the saucer, but not liking the pylons either, nor impulse housings, deflector, shuttlebays, nor nacelle-pylon fairings), and MUCH better lighting. Eaglemoss seems to be "lower-tier" among the parts-work-model companies. I'd subscribe to a build-your-own-Enterprise in a second, if a GOOD one comes out. But not some thick-square-rimmed, "engines lit worse than the Playmates toy" Ten-forward-less version. Yeesh, like half the episodes were practically written around dialogue in Ten-forward. Is Picard's ready room also missing? $1100 is a lot for "not that great" an Ent-D. The only thing it has going for it is raw size, and maybe lit windows... (but not Ten-forward's windows) Quote
wwwmwww Posted March 28, 2019 Posted March 28, 2019 (edited) Talk about lazy advertising... They state "Based on detailed study of the actual studio models" AND "Screen-accurate starfleet decals" twice is the same image. And one of the decal bullets points to the lighting of the warp nacelles which certainly doesn't appear to be a decal at all. I too like the idea of a build-your-own-Enterprise subscription but this one looks like they put about as much effort into it as their advertising. Carl Edited March 28, 2019 by wwwmwww typo Quote
Chronocidal Posted March 28, 2019 Posted March 28, 2019 Did they actually mold the impulse engines in clear red plastic? This literally looks like an upscale of the Playmates toy... but somehow even less accurate. I'm half wondering if that's actually a badly photoshopped render, because the shapes and lighting look too even, and the decals look pasted in. Quote

Pretty sure at least some of the images are a prototype, given the irregular fitting of the sections at the saucer rim. Quote
mechaninac Posted March 29, 2019 Posted March 29, 2019 The problem with prototypes that depict something in this late stage of development, as we've seen all too often with many items of our interest (cough... ET's VF-2SS... cough), is that any design flaws or wonky proportions are set in stone... well, steel, actually. Quote
David Hingtgen Posted March 29, 2019 Posted March 29, 2019 Just look at the spine on top of the engineering section. Quote

Obviously they mean those two points were based on the actual studio models. All the rest of the model is based on fanart and someone's old Playmates toy(not pictured: The underside of the saucer says "KEVIN" in sharpie). Edited March 29, 2019 by JB0 Quote
Dobber Posted March 29, 2019 Posted March 29, 2019 (edited) I got my first real turd in the Galactica collection the other day and unfortunately it is the TOS Galactica herself. Mine has an extremely heavy handed black wash on it that was not completely removed. Some spots look like too much base paint was applied giving it that thick/soft detail look. Where these things may just be my unlucky draw of a model, the mold also has the “Gator Head” bow section angled upwards so it looks like it is looking up! So disappointed, the old girl deserves better. Chris Edited March 29, 2019 by Dobber Quote

Interesting to see that the Oberth was seen as a new design direction of Starfleet ships, although I must say I’m not too big a fan of this. Reminds me of a baby spoon. Quote
easnoddy Posted March 29, 2019 Posted March 29, 2019 (edited) That wash on Galactica is really unfortunate, especially with how good the paint apps look on the Eaglemoss ST ships. It looks like this was done by a child. The ships in the TOS were always very crisp and clean/unscarred. Ordered the TOS Viper, will hopefully arrive this weekend. That Pegasus tho...yum! I think the initial idea with this was that Transwarp required more nacelles to generate the appropriate bubble and that it was so powerful/dangerous they had to keep the saucer section far away from engineering. That doesn’t make it look any better, of course. I still might buy it because it’s a fascinating production relic. Quote

My copy has lighter panel wash in most places, and seems to have a bit less of the upwards look to the bow. I did notice that my landing bay side-pods are uneven, but it's not too noticeable. Dobber Posted March 29, 2019 Posted March 29, 2019 Yeah, yours does look a lot better than mine. Chris Quote
