Valkyrie Posted January 14, 2004 Posted January 14, 2004 Seems like everyone's forgotten about the new Area 88 series. Episode 1 aired almost a week ago. And it's finally been fansubbed Go check it out at your favorite bittorrent site, or Anime-Kraze's homepage. Quote
CF18 Posted January 14, 2004 Posted January 14, 2004 Seen it. The 3D cell shaded graphic is so-so, but a bit better than what I expected. Dog fight scenes are quite unrealistic with planes coming up at other's tail at parking distance. Not much is shown about the characters or the story. Planes shown are consistent with what was abailable in the 70s: F-8E Crusader F-14 Tomcat A-4 Skyhawk F-4 Phantom UH-1Huey J35 Draken MiG 15/17/19 Quote
moose Posted January 14, 2004 Posted January 14, 2004 how old is this anime I recall see it a few years ago Quote
JELEINEN Posted January 14, 2004 Posted January 14, 2004 how old is this anime I recall see it a few years ago The series they're talking about just started airing in Japan. There was an earlier one from back in the 80's though. Quote
Caufield Posted January 14, 2004 Posted January 14, 2004 storywise, is the new Area88 same as the original? how many episodes are being planned for the new one? loved the original... Quote
Myriad Posted January 14, 2004 Posted January 14, 2004 WOOOOHOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Time to break out the disco and bell bottoms. Quote
Panon Posted January 14, 2004 Posted January 14, 2004 (edited) storywise, is the new Area88 same as the original? how many episodes are being planned for the new one?  loved the original... The new remake is a 12 episode tv series. Story wise at the least the first episode followed pattern. The main differences from the old ones so far is that the Matsumoto like character designs are gone, and the VA's are all new (since believe at least one of the main characters VAs from the older OVA has died), and a couple of name differences and McCoy now appears to have a kid sidekick. Guppy Posted January 15, 2004 Posted January 15, 2004 what what what?!? That's so COOL. I didn't even know that it was it was being redone. It's one of my all time favourite manga. Quote
Myriad Posted January 15, 2004 Posted January 15, 2004 Just watched it! Wow! Pretty cool! I hope the rest of the series is good. Quote
bigkid24 Posted January 27, 2004 Posted January 27, 2004 #2 is out Where is it available? The site I go to jumps from episode 1 to episode 3. Quote
areaseven Posted January 27, 2004 Posted January 27, 2004 Nice to see Area 88 back on the anime scene, but I'm not impressed at all by the unrealistic animation for the planes. It makes Idol Defense Force Hummingbird look like Macross Zero. Quote
Myriad Posted January 30, 2004 Posted January 30, 2004 I have just seen the two episodes. So far I like it. Just a fun series to me that is not to be taken seriously. If I want serious I will watch Mospeada or GITS SAC. Maybe it will start a buzz and get the rest of the old series released in the States on DVD. I finally broke down and bought the HK boot of the old series. I got tired of waiting. VHS sucks! Quote
yellowlightman Posted January 30, 2004 Posted January 30, 2004 Just signed up for DSL today, so hopefully I'll be able to check this series out soon. I never saw the original OAV but i did read a lot of the comics. Kind fo kicking myself for passing on a bunch of them the other day when I saw them in the 10cents bin at a comic book shop. Quote
Göönk Posted January 30, 2004 Posted January 30, 2004 I like this Area 88. Nice planes, nice 3D, story... well not so good, a bit strange. Characters have to be developped a bit more. Not enough girls but loads of planes. Old planes from 70's. MIG21s lol. Quote
Commander McBride Posted January 30, 2004 Posted January 30, 2004 Wish I could watch it.... But BT never gets above 1kb/s, with very few exceptions. Quote
bigkid24 Posted January 30, 2004 Posted January 30, 2004 Thanks, Myriad. In between downloading Naruto, I downloaded the first episode of Area 88. I have yet to watch it but I'm happy that I'll finally be able to watch it. I've been intrigued by the anime since the first OVA. Quote
Hoptimus Posted January 30, 2004 Posted January 30, 2004 So far I like it but I have one complaint. The music blows. The tunes on the OVAs are much more suited to this story. This is like DDR jet fighters. <_> Quote
areaseven Posted January 30, 2004 Posted January 30, 2004 Yeah. Eurobeat belongs in street racing - not in aerial combat. Quote
SpacePirateNeko Posted January 30, 2004 Posted January 30, 2004 sigh why must EVERY single donloadable movie or video file be on its own simple unique codex or require a completely unique program to open it up... having thousands of unrelated programs on yoru computer make computers slow =( Quote

rdenham Posted February 9, 2004 Posted February 9, 2004 Has anyone tried to download the third Area 88 TV show? I downloaded the first two from http://www.animesuki.com, however am having a difficult time getting the third one to download. I do find it interesting that episode 1 & 2 were around 178 Megs while the third episode is only 50 Megs. Quote
Valkyrie Posted February 9, 2004 Author Posted February 9, 2004 Huh? Something's wrong there. The file is 176.9 megs. And I had no problems downloading it. Try stopping the download, deleting the file, then download it again. Oh, and make sure you have enough hard drive space left for it. If you only had 50 megs free, that'd be your problem right there Quote
rdenham Posted February 9, 2004 Posted February 9, 2004 I am currently downloading the file and it says that it is 176.7 Megs, so I guess the fact that the main download page has it listed as being 50 Megs is just a type-o. It is also is listed as not having been uploaded or download, which I have to assume is another mistake. Quote
Göönk Posted February 9, 2004 Posted February 9, 2004 (edited) It probably IS a mistake but I have too many anime downloads in progress so let me know if the 3rd is good. I mean, as good or bad as the 2 other. check the "official" website of anime kraze http://torrent.anime-kraze.net:6969/ it says 176MB. Animesucky.. sucks Edited February 9, 2004 by Göönk Quote

Göönk Posted February 10, 2004 Posted February 10, 2004 Apollo : watct at http://www.animesuki.com , there is a search engine. Use it and Macross 3 seeds will show up. Try the one with the more seeders for faster download rate. Quote
