Godzilla Posted January 12, 2004 Posted January 12, 2004 Just wondering if it is any good before I decide to buy it. Quote
Keith Posted January 12, 2004 Posted January 12, 2004 Yeah, it's short, but it's cool. Only downside being the current box set release (given that it was originally released one episode per disc) has double sided disc's with 1 episode on each (meaning handle with care while flipping sides). Quote
ArchVile Posted January 12, 2004 Posted January 12, 2004 I found it interesting and good but lacking something at the end. **Spoiler** What the hell happened to Zorndike at the end? How'd he die? Quote
bandit29 Posted January 12, 2004 Posted January 12, 2004 Like most Gonzo titles. It looks good and the story is kinda weak. The collection is a good buy though despite the dual sided discs. Plus you get an extras disc. Quote
GobotFool Posted January 12, 2004 Posted January 12, 2004 I found it interesting and good but lacking something at the end.**Spoiler** What the hell happened to Zorndike at the end? How'd he die? I think our hero shot him. He said something along the lines while on the beach, "That's the 1st time I have ever killed a man face to face" I believe. I am probably wrong. Quote
gerwalk25 Posted January 13, 2004 Posted January 13, 2004 I have a BS6 HK bootleg with all episodes and a special featurette on a single sided DVD. The subs aren't too bad and the vid quality's the same well worth the 10 bucks I spent. ~G25 Quote
justvinnie Posted January 13, 2004 Posted January 13, 2004 Heh. If anyone is interested, I have the original release, ie 4 DVD's... I think... too lazy to check. It was nifty, the first time. Haven't watched it again since. vinnie Quote
gnollman Posted January 13, 2004 Posted January 13, 2004 I'm a big fan of the show. Anytime you mix genetics into anime, I usually get a kick out of it.... It's a beautiful show, if a little light on the explanation side of things. Quote
007-vf1 Posted January 13, 2004 Posted January 13, 2004 I saw the 4 chapter series I don't know if there were made more than that but it is one of the best CGI/cell mixes I have ever seen. Thumbs up for it. Quote
Keith Posted January 13, 2004 Posted January 13, 2004 Plus it has Kawamori doing the mini-attack sub designs. As well as a huge whale-ship thing with what looks to be the Yamato attached to it. Quote
Mechleader Posted January 13, 2004 Posted January 13, 2004 I saw it. Totally dug it....except the ending. But great animation!!!! Quote
orguss01 Posted January 14, 2004 Posted January 14, 2004 Oh yeah the big whale thingies are so cool ...infra sonic weapons..if you dont have a nice sound system hooked up... try it with headphones...crazy this may be Earths fate...i think animae has a way of projecting/ predicting if you will the worst that is possible..the freeedom to imagine and speculate...that show is abit short thought right compared to other OVA... Mercurial Morpheus Posted January 18, 2004 Posted January 18, 2004 Personally, I didn't like it. Its one of the few such animes, but then, I don't like CG/Cel hybreds. I just don't see the point in them. CGI doesn't impress me as much as hand done work. Plus, the CG tends to be distracting to the plot. I tend to avoid Gonzo because of this OVA. Out of all the shows I've seen made by them, I've only liked full Metal Panic, as they take it easy on the CGI. There's still plenty of cheap animation in that one though. All in all, I'd like it better if it weren't such a blantant cry for attention. In all fairness, I did see it on Cartoon Network. So maybe the dub and edit didn't help. Its like how I'm not fond of current hit Witch Hunter Robin, though in that case, I'm going on two episodes. Quote
