I need to watch it start to finish. That being said, I have watched the beautiful battle between Milia “Miria” and Max lit by muzzle flashes multiple times.

There was never a Destroid Spartan. It was all in your imagination. The line art you see on macross2 is just an elaborate hoodwinking campaign by dedicated fans. All footage that features it was the fans getting their hands on the physical tape and acid-etching it into scenes.

I'm allowing myself to get all the Queadluun variants because.... well, mostly because Max and Miria are cool. But I don't think I could muster enthusiasm to get every male power armor variation like I bought all the Regults and all the beautiful VF variations.

I didn’t realize there were more than three variants. I like the Gold one best, but it’s gonna be tough to find space for these, especially if they start doing tv armors as well.

They were still available in almost every good model store when I visited Tokyo in June 2024 - Yodobashi (both Akihabara and Shinjuku), Volks, Mandarake in Nagano, checking my photos from the trip. ¥6730 at Yodobashi. The Phalanx was plentiful too. I’d look around online (especially Mandarake) to seen what they may cost now and what shipping would be. Certainly cheaper than eBay.

I was pretty surprised as well. Until you mentioned it the other day, I had no idea of its existence. Even google searching, you gotta be specific about the missile backpack or else just the three color variations pop up and most sites only mention those. I couldn’t even find a line art or anything about it, just a couple screenshots of that scene. I don’t even know if they show up anywhere else in the movie

Yeah, there's like next to no information on it—even in Japanese!

I pulled out my DVD copy, and found them in that one scene.  However, due to overall image darkness and the screen cropping, they're barely visible.  It's no wonder that nobody really noticed them until the BR release about a decade ago!

The dumb part is that I kinda remember missiles being fired, but I never thought to wonder where they came from. I do have to admit that most of the time it was a video cassette that I was watching and they probably just didn’t show well on there

That just slipped through the sacred timeline and was forgotten. 
It's funny (and telling) that a lot of that thread goes off into the "what's canon " rabbit hole . No wonder it's been buried. 
Considering its obscurity, and the fact that i've never seen one, even from Wonderfest, if Hasegawa ever does a missile version , i would be most impressed. As it stands, just gimme the Kamjin DYRL version!

It's just like the Zentrādi Heavy Fighter Pod and Automated Refueling Tanker—hidden in plain sight all along.  However, unlike the shoulder missile launcher on the Nūjaderu-Gā, they at least appeared in passing in print!
