Frankly, I'd love to see Hasegawa do some Macross II models. I know that's highly unlikely, but there's some worthwhile designs in there if they're interested...

Same. And not just for a 1/72 VF-2SS in plastic, but also some of the capitol ships, like the Macross Cannon. Heracles and the Gloria.

1/72 variable VF-2SS from Bandai or 1/72 fighter and battroid kits from Hasegawa would be awesome. 1/48 VF-2SS fighter from Hasegawa would be a dream.

I like the Macross II destroids a lot but unfortunately I suspect we'll never see plastic kits of those.

I'm oddly indifferent to VF-2JA, and I just don't dig Metal Siren at all.

It's not plastic model but I have a resin 1/48 VF-22S in the for sale section: 20241116_164854.jpg

That's super cool ! If it was 1/72 I would be all over it.!

I’m pretty sure that if Bandai does them, they’d be the 1/100 hg kits. As far as destroids, there’s a weird possibility of wave, but I think they’re kinda more of a dream at this point but I’d love to see those or even the odd zentraedi stuff from Macross 2

But Bandai already did a 1/100 variable vf-2ss. I doubt they'd do a new one when they can repop the old one. Unless they're done with the line already, I'm hoping for vf-11, vf-25, and vf-31 in the hg parts changers series. Might be avoiding vf-1 because of Wave.

That was more than 20 years ago. I think they would eventually try to do it in hg though. I think their vf19 kit was newer of course in a different scale and they did a very recent hg kit of that, but they have a thing for putting out a new version of things. Hasegawa on the other hand is usually more about putting something out with a slight change.

Don’t get me wrong, I wouldn’t doubt that Bandai will also reprint the old kit as soon as another anniversary happens.

I would love to see a vf-11 and I’m pretty sure the 25 and 31 are already in the works. But I think their bigger issue with the vf-1 isn’t as much wave, but harmony gold. Bandai wouldn’t be able to make it for other countries without some kind of deal and they’re very stubborn. I remember the problems they had with the Star Wars models. And then there’s the problem for the consumer if they just did Japanese releases. It may not even be available at hlj. The recent Mospeada toys weren’t even available there.

And Harmony Gold probably doesn't care at all that they are being nothing but a nuisance. If there is one outfit that should just close its doors and disappear, it's that one. They haven't done anything worth while in decades.

Unless there is somehow another company with the same name, it seems like flipping real estate and tax evaision are their main gigs. Probably linked to some italian mafia too.

They’re definitely a nuisance company. They somehow found a way to block everyone including themselves from profiting from Macross and customer enjoyment as well.

Harmony Gold recently got its' wings clipped by Big West; they don't have the stranglehold they used to.

Newer Bandai VF-19 kit other than the HG? What's that? Do you mean the old Macross 7 line? I guess it's true they redid the Fire Valkyrie. No new VF-19S sadly. Still... i don't know if the old VF-2SS is bad enough or popular enough for them to think it needs a redo. I'm not even sure it would be improved on. The old kit requires swapping a few pieces, and with the new approach the HGs are using it might need even more parts swapping. I have a lot of fondness for the old kit with its nice box art, and poster on the back of the instruction manual.

I don't think HLJ would have trouble selling Bandai VF-1 because its a VF-1, they'd have trouble selling it because it's Bandai. Just like they have trouble getting decent stock for the other HG Macross kits, Gundam stuff, 30mm Armored Core kits, etc. But other company's VF-1 kits (Hasegawa, Wave, Plamax) are easy to get on HLJ.

I think they may have had a slight trim, but not totally clipped. A lot of other countries were given access to Macross shows, just not the U.S., toys that don’t have the Robotech brand for Mospeada or the old Macross are pretty scarce over here, most hobby shops this side of the ocean won’t carry the plamax vf-1 kits or the Hasegawa stuff from the old Macross either. I’m pretty sure there’s some kind of roadblock going on.

The old vf-2 kit was great for its time, but has some weird proportions. It definitely needs an update and I’d absolutely love a new one, but you’re correct about the box and packaging, that was amazing.

As far as Bandai and the VF-1 , like you said they are already difficult with their models of all brands. And they recently did the vermillion platoon in hmr, but limited those to web exclusives and then further limited them by not offering them on the U.S. store even though everything else comes over from other properties. I don’t think the Dunbine OVA or Vifam or Dragonar were ever released legitimately here in the U.S., but the American pbandai store has toys and models from those franchises, but skipped offering old school Macross items that probably would have sold well, if not better than something as obscure as a metal build serbine or something.

HG still has rights on OG/DYRL characters and content in the US. But that's about it.

If you look at how that recent macross game on steam has the OG content cut out as regional exclusive dlc, where folks outside of asia can't get it, that's the likely result of the deal and an example of how things will have to dance around it going forward.
