Nah, it's just those two. I find it so cool that's why I shared it. 8)

Just waiting for the cardboard guy to do SDF-1 next after he did the VF-1S months ago. ;)

I was really glad to see they finally rereleased this one after so long. I picked up this and the Tomahawk as well as the Defender at hobby search.
There are things I like about this one better than the Kotobukiya version, like the foot option, but this one definitely has more work.
my old one met with an unfortunate mom came over to help clean accidents ad I found it off to the side smashed and just couldn’t find the necessary parts to do a rebuild. It’s one of those kits that wave waited a very long time to do a second batch

I wish GiTS would go back to S.A.C. animation style/character designs. S.A.C Motoko and Tachikoma are my favorites. But I'll still be watching any new GiTS anime that comes out. :D

I guess it's time for a re-watch. My first recollection is like getting buzzed and watching Blade Runner in slow motion through a pair of sunglasses.

I remember the first film, but really don’t remember the second one. I’ve only seen it once years ago

Actually, just a bit more grounded version. F knows what they we're thinking in season 1 with this.

I think it’s more inline with the manga, but in the manga, every female seems to be kinky. The show on the other hand makes her seem out of place with most people in business suits and her walking around in a thong and a badge, yet no one seems at all distracted

That would be Shirow Masamune's own personal tastes showing through in an adaptation of his work.

Motoko's outfit from Stand Alone Complex season one is a slightly modified version of one of the tamer outfits she wears in his sequel to the original manga Ghost in the Shell 2: Man-Machine Interface.  Though that version came with a sleeved crop top-like jacket similar to what she wears in season two instead of a leather jacket.

I'm not sure if you've read the original Ghost in the Shell manga or its sequels, but Shirow Masamune's work started out on the "sexy" side with a fair amount of fanservice and that aspect of his work only got more pronounced with time.  Once he quit doing serialized work to focus on being an illustrator his self-published work became increasingly salacious until it crossed the line into literal hardcore pornography... though even Ghost in the Shell and Man-Machine Interface had explicit sex scenes that were removed from the western releases and reprintings.

That’s basically what I said above. The weird thing is that the show is so tame in most things, yet they tried that kinky no pants outfit in a world that still keeps their kink in the after hours mostly hidden away from a standard conservative society. But she just walks in no pants and nobody notices as though she’s just doing things as usual. And then the creators of the series thought about it in the next batch of episodes and thought, maybe she’s cold back there. The no pants thing fits the manga world since it’s so extreme, but the series setting doesn’t work

I think I added a bit of pertinent detail.

Stand Alone Complex character designer Hajime Shimomura discusses the design process in Stand Alone Complex Official Log 01 and mentions he used Man-Machine Interface's designs as his starting point for anime's, and that was Ghost in the Shell at its most exploitative.  (His draft character studies use her appearance and wildly impractical dress from MMI's first chapter.)

Yeah, it definitely stands out more in the less overtly 90's cyberpunk-y setting of Stand Alone Complex, though we do see a couple background characters on her level like Ran and Kurutan when they had a cameo in Ep5, the high-performance cyborgs the yakuza use as bodyguards in Ep7, and a number of background androids in various fetish-y outfits.  I've often wondered if her being mistaken for a sex droid in 2nd Gig's Ep3 was a joke at their own expense there.  (Ironically after she started dressing more reasonably.)

Lol me too. I've been going back and forth about preordering the Hiya one but decided to just stick with my "pants on" figma version. And I just saw the pop up parade one and said to myself "no way I can display that in my house with Motoko displaying her cheeks like that."

I was sort of set on getting Hiya's, but there was some hesitation too because articulated joints don't always look good on areas showing a lot of skin. Was pretty pleased at first that Pop-Up Parade was making it, but then got a bit bummed that they are making it in L-size only. Would be entirely happy to get her in normal size.

I have dithered on the old Sega figure of her in the SAC 2nd Gig outfit for some time as well but couldn't really accept her facial sculpt after all, so yeah hope a new figure of her with pants will come next.

Yeah, I know. I had his artbooks (sold them though after settling down), but the SAC was way more grounded and plausible minus her walking around with her bare rear yet a leather jacket too...

That's my point. Fits the Manga where most of it is tripper, but in the SAC universe... nopelandia...

I have her SAC 2 outfit by Alter, albiet it's 1/8. Yeah, I was surprised about the Pop-up L-size... generally they follow that after making the normal scaled version...

Funny you say this, as a friend asked me if I'm going to get it. I told him, I can't display it, heaven forbid if my kid's parents visit... and nor store it as when I leave this world, what is my daughter going to think of me when she finds it in my cardboard.

Honestly, it’s tough to try and explain to parents or young children, but at least by the time you pass away your daughter will be older and probably into anime. It’s one of those older generation things that would make it far less acceptable, but I’d be more uncomfortable having my own adult daughter finding that on a shelf of mine while I’m still alive. It would definitely be an uncomfortable moment.

It's still p0rn. There's no other way to look around it.

I wouldn’t go that far, but it’s definitely getting close to the border line

It stood out, but not by quite as much as some are giving it credit for doing.

To an extent, I think they were just playing to audience expectations... even the first movie had that slightly suspect flesh-colored bodysuit.

An awfully Victorian outlook, isn't it?

There are examples of figures that legitimately border on or cross that line on this very forum.  Motoko's outfit there is no more revealing or explicit than a one-piece bathing suit you might see at a public or hotel pool.  Not exactly office attire, but a considerable distance short of anything that'd prompt a content advisory.

I have a wallscroll of season one Motoko hanging in my home office and nobody's ever suggested they felt it was inappropriate.  (Of course, it also doesn't show that outfit from the back, so...)
