ChristopherB Posted October 28, 2020 Author Posted October 28, 2020 (edited) @Convectuoso: Very nice B-Club 1/100 VF-2JA. Your Metal Siren is sweet, and B-Club made the kit look good in battroid mode. Definitely reminds me of a Gundam. (The pictures mentioned in your 10/20 post aren't showing up for me.) @Anasazi37: Hobby Japan Vintage Volumn 4, something I procrastinated ordering and now it's out of stock...congrats Devin! If anyone comes across one for sale, please let me know. @peter: Impressive model kit collection, you have good taste in cars. I would love to have the Mustang Cobra R, General Lee, Porsche and quite a few others. The WWII Yamato and New Jersey are two of my favorites, and I think you need a few more Acura NSX kits. haha @Chas: Three cool kits! @Photogirl: One of my favorite Hasegawa kits, what a memorable scene and the box art captures it well. Some new arrivals from Japan, these will be projects in November and December hopefully. Full paint, bit of weathering and going to use the decals rather than the stickers. The Bandai 1/72 VF-1J Max and Milia are limited edition and usually go for $100 each. They're variable, but considering going with GERWALK for display mode. It's always been my favorite mode since it's what is unique to Macross for the most part: Newly arrived Macross 1/72 Hasegawa VF-31 Siegfried (5) Set Walküre Launch Valkyrie Limited Edition Collection: Some recently completed Macross Frontier Bandai 1/72 variable kits: Edited October 28, 2020 by ChristopherB Added Pictures Quote

Boroboy Posted December 9, 2020 Posted December 9, 2020 Well, I finally started cleaning out the boxes I got from my parents’ basement some decades ago, and found my longest ever WIP - 30+ years! Looks like 2 VF-1Ds and 2.5 VF-1Js. Then two poor VF-1Ss that could use some repair. These had to have been the old Revell Robotech kits that I tried to do in a hybrid of the Macross liveries with the Orbot/Vexar/Other One That I Can’t Remember color schemes. I must have been around 10. Quote

No problem; Axoid was my first Revell Valk, folowed by Vexar; I have both again (thanks to some friends here )painted in their Macross colors (Roy and Hikaru, respectively). And I remember the box well: BTW: anyone ever notice in these pics that the legs are on backwards in Battroid mode? Edited December 11, 2020 by pengbuzz Quote
ChristopherB Posted December 18, 2020 Author Posted December 18, 2020 Some new arrivals from Japan, Canada and Chicago. An assortment of resin, plastic and 3D printed kits (Plastic Cretins) as well as Macross kite display stands. A few decal sets and a completed Bandai 1/72 VF-25F Tornado Messiah. Inside the Club M 1/72 VT-1 box is a super rare IHP 1/100 VF-22S. In 20+ years I've never seen this kit built until now, and only (2) unbuilt worldwide. So, I now have have one built and one new in box. The SHE 1/100 and Yellow Submarine 1/100 VF-1S Blue Roses Strike were posted previously. Please let me know if you have any questions. Quote
ChristopherB Posted December 18, 2020 Author Posted December 18, 2020 Elegant, Sophisticated, Rare: The Arii 1/100 VF-1 Silver Box Collection! How many of you didn't know about the Arii Silver Box series? I first learned of them (15) years ago, and they really intrigued me. Just finding out how many there are, and which VF-1 versions included was very difficult. Until now there hasn't been a definitive source for this information, so I decided to change that with my Macross Complete Model List (MCML) Project. It has more than 1,400 entries with (9) categories each as well as the addition of links and images (unbuilt & built) being added. It took me (15) years to complete the set, because they show up very rarely for sale. Imagine being able to find an almost (40) year old kit, let alone with complete parts and in an original box in good condition. Compound all of that by the fact you need (12) different ones to complete the set, and then hoping the ones you need are offered for sale. Plus each kit can cost from $50 to more than $200! This is my first time to see the entire set, and I don't know of anyone else with all of them. Did you know this is the only way to get a 1/100 VF-1 plastic kit that is variable and has no armor? Yes, this Arii kit features the VF-1 valkryie with and without the armor! From my understanding Imai created the first variable VF-1 in 1/72 scale without any armor. So, Arii took it and sized it down to 1/100, and then Arii created the FAST Pack armor. I've included in the pictures a comparison of the VF-1D with and without armor. Next Arii created the DYRL FAST Pack armor with a Strike Cannon and resized (larger) boosters to represent the Skull Squadron. These were sold as part of the 1/100 HEWAT (Heavy Weapons Type) series of kits, which I will cover in a future post. Due to bankruptcy the molds for various Macross kits (Imai/Arii) were sold and then released by Bandai. The Silver Box Series was meant to be a highly collectible and sought after, released in limited numbers and with all the bells & whistles. Featuring beautiful box art, display stand, decals, modeling glue, full color inserts, each box uses lovely colors (purple, gold, sky blue, pink, green, etc). After so much mass production, the executives decided to try a different approach and make these something special. Why 1/100 scale when 1/72 is the most popular for aircraft? Most likely to differentiate from the Imai 1/72 and also because of the Gundam 1/100 line used for their MG kits. (Just an example, since MG kits were released at a later date.) Although I have no idea what was the popular scale for Gundams in the early 1980's. Macross is truly unique in that so many scales are offered for their model kits. Please let me know if you have any questions or you're interested in adding these kits to your own collection. PS: 1.) Does anyone have more background information on which variable VF-1 kit (1/100 Arii vs 1/72 Imai) came first since they were both released at almost exactly the same time. 2.) Whether the two companies either collaborated so as to offer two different scales and share the market. Or did one of the companies reverse engineer their competitors kit to another scale, without incurring any patent/design infringement issues? 3.) Also who designed these kits for Imai/Arii would be quite interesting. After all, it's no small feat to design such intricate transformation in the early 80's. 4.) Are these the first known transformable model kits to ever be released? (Please quote an official source to support your information whenever possible.) Quote
Urashiman Posted December 18, 2020 Posted December 18, 2020 (edited) So - May stash moved from the living room into the basement. The VF-0S and the SV-51 Nora Type box on the left are "empty". Well actually, full of sprues from other kits. The stash will be extended by a VF-1S Strike 1/48, VF-0D, VF-25 Super and a SV-262 as soon as the HLJ holiday sale package arrives Update: The stuff is here: Edited January 3, 2021 by Urashiman Quote

Hexi Posted February 6, 2021 Posted February 6, 2021 (edited) Some old, some new and some incomplete. 1/72 VF-1S Gerwalk. My 1st build when getting back into it. Done with rattle cans. Cased for protection. It's nice to see where you started. 1/72 Super and Strike VF-1A and J. Rattle cans. Also a 1/100 Elintseeker toy. 1/72 Super Ostrich and Elintseeker. Panel lined and Airbrushed. I don't really go for weathering on space fighters. 1/72 VF-0D. Done mostly with Vallejo. The more complete picture. Still needs the canopy scrubbed, polished and sprayed. I may make another and weather it. 1/100 VF-1A. Simple build. Built to test another panel lining technique. 1/200 Monster. Incomplete. Arms and cannons have recently been stripped of paint. Needs lots of sanding. 1/72 YF-19s. White one was prototype build and the other is a more refined build. 1/72 SV-51 Nora. My pretty girl. Thought about panel lining, but didn't want to distract away from it's natural beauty. 1/170 VF-1S Battroid done for fun. 1/72 Destroid Defender. Designed for those who like to putty and sand. 1/48 VF-1S Strike. The level of detail on the 1/48 is great and it's easier to build than the 1/72s. All Valks are Hasegawa. Another 1/48 VF-1S Strike built to be displayed with landing gears down and Gunpod attached. 1/48 VF-1J Super Miria! Current projects include a 1/72 Battroid that's ready for assembly, panel lining and decals. And a 1/48 YF-19 that's about the same. I meant to weather this one and forgot. The worst part is knowing I want the Dullahan, but I don't feel like building anymore YF-19s. I need to finish this 1/100 VF-1S Strike Battroid by Imai as well, but Imai and Arri suck the life out of me with all the putty and sanding. I kid you not I've built the Hasegawa 1/72 VF-1S Strike Battroid in half the time of the 1/100 Imai version. Next will be a 1/72 VF-0A "Shin" with Ghost, maybe a 1/72 SV-51 Ivan and possibly a VF-19A Dullahan. I like to have multiple projects going at the same time to reduce down time. After building 1/48 VF-1s it's unlikely I'll build anymore 1/72 VF-1s. They're just tiny compared to everything else. Edited February 6, 2021 by Hexi Quote
Gabe Q Posted February 6, 2021 Posted February 6, 2021 @Hexi thank you for taking the time to post your collection. I enjoyed looking at all of your completed builds. I can't wait to see all the other stuff you're gonna build. Please post when you do. Quote

jvmacross Posted February 14, 2021 Posted February 14, 2021 Yes, the kit should be the same as the IMAI 1/5000 "regular" SDF-1 Macross cruiser fortress release..... This kit must have had an extremely short production run for some reason...... Quote
