I would definitely start there. If you get your technique down it’s probably all you’ll need. And the colors are yellow and bubblegum red But of course it might even be more impressive if you decide to employ others. I often wondered if blue would have been worthwhile somewhere. But overall the bubblegum red and the yellow. Do not dilute it. It’s going to seem very thick. And like I said I was having the best luck using toothpick points as applicators. Some areas it was as simple as lightly playing a dot down with a toothpick and leaving it there to dry. Other areas I kind of had to set it down and then tug at it to drag it across the areas that require slightly larger spots. Think of it as a paint that feels very thick and grainy. It is also why when you look at pictures of the premium up close it is not like a flat evenly applied paint application. But rather kind of three-dimensional spots dotted on. But it was one of the clues that I had the right sort of paint. Here’s a picture of the actual premium finish buildings compared to a dot on top of the paint cap. You can see the texture.  Whatever you use don’t settle for any other cheap glow in the dark acrylic paints. This is definitely the product you’re looking for. Also I recommend having a black light nearby. It will help you to see where you may have spilled some so you can clean it up from areas it is not supposed to be. Think of a barely visible paint smear that lights up like a sports field under black light. Whatever you use don’t settle for any other cheap glow in the dark acrylic paints. This is definitely the product you’re looking for. Panel lining with a fine point Gundam marker and a coating of gundam topcoat is really all that’s left to set the premium finish apart.

Arcadia blog about the glow paint: https://ameblo.jp/arcadiaac/entry-12369607518.html

Yes thanks for sharing this again! I only wish they were up close shots of the paint being applied. But the English translation is pretty good. They clearly describe the issue of how difficult it is to smoothly and properly apply the glow paint. The site I recommended in the US may very well be a business that imports this paint. And repackages it. But I assume the opposite could also be true. They may have imported it in bulk for the project. Either way it’s pretty much an exact match.

Thanks, guys! I just ordered the paint. I've had the assembly kit for a while now and I feel that I'm getting close to the skill level where I can build it properly and do it justice.

Looking forward to your project. :good:

Also if you only have 'one' assembly kit, try to test the paint first on other plastic materials or sprues from other kits. ;)

At today's prices

Right?

@Seto Kaiba So Seto: would they have enough battle fortresses there to take on a branch fleet? :D

Just stumbled on this video in YouTube. Not sure if he's a member to this forum. Displayed are SDF-1 in different scales including both 1/2000 and 1/3000 models.

Hello, everyone!

I'm going to try to customize my regular-edition Arcadia SDF-1, and I'm trying to replicate the pinstripes found on the premium finish version (please see attached screen grab).

Does anyone have an idea about the width of these pinstripes?

I'm choosing between waterslide decals of width 1/32in (0.8mm) or 3/64in (1.2mm). Which would be the closest match?

Does anyone know how tall the SDF-1 is on the stand in Fortress-Mode with the cannons not angled forward?

According to anymoon.com it is 43cm but that doesn’t include the stand if I recall correctly.

You're going to love this. They're 1.0mm.:D

Did you find a supplier that has generic water slide stripes? I want a custom Bandai DX GBP in the Focker colors they showed. But yellow strips would have to be generated.

Don't fret. Here's a 0.5mm Red Stripe Waterslide decal. Combine to make 1.0mm. ;)

Or a sheet that has a wide range of width. And guess what, it comes in Yellow too @sqidd:good:

While we're back on the topic of modding, what are your thoughts on using Stuart Semple's LIT glow-in-the-dark powders?

They're touted as among the brightest commercially-available GITD pigments (and third-party reviews seem to back this). I'm not so sure about how easy/difficult they would be to apply, or what kind of binder I should mix them in to make them stick permanently to the model.

I read the 'How Do You Use It?' section on the link you provided. And they're suggesting to use their Superbase product to mix it in and dilute a little with water. Technically using it like a paint. If they're mix with acrylics then it's going to be like acrylic paints. Since the details on the SDF-1 are small, you can use fine small brushes or just the tip of the toothpick.

Again, before you start painting or applying anything directly on the model, always try it first on some extra plastics you have such as model kit sprues or some disposable plastic spoons. I have to say that this is an interesting Glow-In-The-Dark agent.

I put my SDF-1 out on display. I think I want to add the extra bits and screw hole covers to it.

Do they need to be glued in or are the tolerances tight enough so I can just push them in?

During the transformation I noticed that one of the detail pieces on the chest came undone so I thought gluing the extra bits in might be a good idea.

To answer my own question: most of the parts stay in just fine with friction. However the four little detail pieces on each ARMD carrier should be glued in with a dab of super glue otherwise they might fall out.

I think I added all the bits in the instructions however two pieces were leftover.

Does anyone know where they belong?

IIRC where those go is covered up by other parts, they do get placed in the kit version.

Yamato 1/3000 SDF-1 Assembly Kit to go with the Arcadia PF.

Gotta CAD up a stand adapter for the Assembly Kit to get it in DYRL movie pose on a YetiStand still.

TBH the Assembly Kit is junk compared to the Arcadia. It’s not nearly as refined. Turned out pretty though.

They look great together. Congratulations!

Did you use the alternate boosters for the feet?

Is there something wrong with the waist. The side cover seems to be jutted.

I went with the standard boosters.

Yes, there is something wrong with the waist. The model is so loose that the body won't stay extended in the up position very well at all. I moved that one piece out of position to see if it would keep it erect. It does. I'll move the other side now so they match.

Just CAD'd up the stand adapter for a YetiStand. Hopefully I have it up and "flying" tomorrow.

Maybe the bridge isn’t properly rested and is sitting far too high up.

Once you slide the bridge down all should fall into place.

Oh yeah, mine is too high. Thanks

Much better. Looks like I didn't have the guns in their right spots either. Maybe I should have looked at a pic.8P

The lock on the back still doesn't want to engage all of the way though. It's better, but not Arcadia PF better.

I'll fiddle with it more when the stand adapter is printed.

Thanks again. Sometimes you can't see the forest though the trees.

Looks good! You're also the only other person I've seen that has posted a pic using the alternate destroyed pylon parts. Or at least I don't recall ever seeing someone else post pics of it.

Did you decide against using the photo etch parts in the end?
