rdenham Posted November 3, 2003 Posted November 3, 2003 Does anyone know if Japanese Xbox games will play on a US Xbox; if so I have good news for Yukikaze fans. Go to http://www.aquasystem.co.jp/japanese2.html Scroll down the page, on your left you'll see a picture of the XBOX game, click on it. on the next page, click on GALLERY. Quote
Effect Posted November 4, 2003 Posted November 4, 2003 I wonder if there will be a US release of this since the OVA is being released in the states. Hmm I wonder how the actual game places, sim or arcade like. Just finished playing Crimison Skies, one of the best flying games I've had the pleasure of playing(controls had an arcade style feel to them). Quote
Graham Posted November 4, 2003 Posted November 4, 2003 AFAIK, this will be more of an arcade type action/shooter, rather than a proper sim. It's just a pity it's not coming to the PS2 as the only reason I would buy an X box is if they made a new Macross game for it. I'm not putting down the Xbox, rather new Macross games are the only reason for me to buy another console. Graham Quote

Effect Posted November 4, 2003 Posted November 4, 2003 Nope. I've never played the PC verison, only the Xbox one. It and a few other games were the deciding factor in my actually getting an Xbox to be honest. I'm not really crazy about sim type games, I try to stay away from flight sims. Quote
Syngyne Posted November 4, 2003 Posted November 4, 2003 I'm not putting down the Xbox, rather new Macross games are the only reason for me to buy another console. Well, you could always get Steel Battalion and pretend you're in a Destroid. Quote
Less than Super Ostrich Posted November 23, 2003 Posted November 23, 2003 I promised WM Cheng a while ago that I would post this thread, but I never did. This is my build up for the Yukikaze Super Sylph. Its a Bandai 1/100 scale kit. The kit is only ok at best. Pin marks, poor fitting wings to the fuselage and bad fitting decals are the main complaints. Here is the main body together with some primer added. Perhaps you can see the problems I had with the wings not getting flush. Quote
Less than Super Ostrich Posted November 23, 2003 Posted November 23, 2003 (edited) Ok... now here is more with a coat of paint... a combo of dark grey and RLM grey from Tamiya. This will be closer to the final color than some other pictures that I will post next. It will be flat rather than the glossy coat that you will see in the next couple of picture posts. Less than Super Ostrich Posted November 23, 2003 Posted November 23, 2003 Here is the side view with some decals applied and the lighter grey undercoat.... rlm grey and sky grey were the colors used on the underside. Quote
Less than Super Ostrich Posted November 23, 2003 Posted November 23, 2003 Here is the toughest part. I tried to mask the canopy several times with no luck. So I actually just used some hobby stickers that you can by at the hobby store. They come is several colors and thicknesses. Its not great, but it'll do. Unfortunately, you can't see all the time and energy that I spent on the pilots. Quote
Less than Super Ostrich Posted November 23, 2003 Posted November 23, 2003 Here is the super sylph again. Notice how shiny it is. I used a gloss lacquer coat over the acrylics, so I could try the post shading technique (that way if I mess up, I can get rid of the post shade without ruining the base coat). The final version will get a flat coat, so it will NOT look sooo shiny. Quote
dyowelb Posted November 23, 2003 Posted November 23, 2003 LTSO, Looking great....keep us posted.. dyowelb Quote
Neova Posted November 23, 2003 Posted November 23, 2003 Wow! That looks really good. Did you consider masking and painting in shades of grey ala WMCheng's YF-21 to bring out more of the details of the plane? Keep up the great work. Quote
tom64ss Posted November 24, 2003 Posted November 24, 2003 That looks great LTSO. I wonder if these model kits will be easier and cheaper to get in the U.S. once the region 1 DVDs come out? Quote

Hopefully... I really don't feel like paying over 35 dollars for a 1/100 scale fighter... and one as lightly detailed as this... Quote
bake_art Posted December 2, 2003 Posted December 2, 2003 that looks beautiful... now let's see a macross one Quote
Less than Super Ostrich Posted January 11, 2004 Posted January 11, 2004 I just finished the Yukikaze Super Sylph and I was thinking that many of its lines look very similar to the VF-4. At least the front half of the aircraft does. What do you think? I had a lot of the same problems as WM Cheng did with his Yukikaze Super Sylph. This is the Version 1.5 from Bandai. I wish I had it in 1/72 scale, but unfortunately this is the 1/100 version (Platz makes the 1/72 scale). I enjoyed this aircraft very much. I used Tamiya paints and all the decals. The decals went on fairly smooth, but in hindsight I should have painted all the white parts on the wings. I think it turned out pretty good. I had problems with those light blue decals going down the back. I tried a oil wash for the weathering details. I used some of the Alclad metalizer paints for the shiny parts (underside radar and the exhaust on the rear). I mixed sky gray and rlm grey to get the color for the underside; and dark gray and rlm gray for the top. Overall I am pleased, but the colors are definitely not the colors on the cover of the box. What do you think... I'd love any feed back. http://www.macrossworld.com/mwf/uploads/po...-1073845851.jpg http://www.macrossworld.com/mwf/uploads/po...-1073845916.jpg http://www.macrossworld.com/mwf/uploads/po...-1073845993.jpg http://www.macrossworld.com/mwf/uploads/po...-1073846086.jpg Quote
ewilen Posted January 11, 2004 Posted January 11, 2004 Good job. As far as the design, the twin tail and canard aft of cockpit are similar to the VF-4, but other elements remind me of the YF-21/VF-22 (wing shape and downward drooping tips). One big difference from the VF-4 is the engine placement. Quote
cwmodels Posted January 11, 2004 Posted January 11, 2004 VF-4 's overal design and engine placement is closer to the SR-71 Black Bird. I don't think it is anything like the Yukikaze. Quote
wm cheng Posted January 11, 2004 Posted January 11, 2004 Great job LTSO!! Nice colours, much more military than that sickly green they suggest. What's wrong with the white decals, they look great in the photos! Nice weathering job on the panel lines - did you post shade them as well? I am surprised to see those two stripes on the back of the plane so blue in colour. Great job, the extra decals on the version 1.5 makes a huge difference. Did you make it so the gears were removeable? A good buddy of mine bought me the 1/72 scale Platz version for Christmas (more on my assembly line...) - beautiful gear details. Quote

I did my weathering in an odd way... I left the oil wash spill over onto the panels enough to turn the color somewhat darker. I still don't have enough airbrush control to do the pre-shade or post shade technique. Overall I am pleased, but I think the only color this will work on is dark gray, IMHO. Oh, and when I was talking about the similarity to the VF-4... I meant only the forward section. The rear is clearly its own thing. I agree that the VF-4 aft section is a tribute to the Blackbird. Anubis Posted January 11, 2004 Posted January 11, 2004 The VF-14 is much closer to the SR-71. Especially in black like they showed in the M7+ Short. Great job on the Yukikaze Super Sylph, btw. Quote
Druna Skass Posted January 11, 2004 Posted January 11, 2004 The forward view reminds me of the VF-2SS... Quote
Isamu Atreides 86 Posted January 11, 2004 Posted January 11, 2004 awesome work. good job. i love those Yukikaze designs. Quote
NERV Posted January 12, 2004 Posted January 12, 2004 im not seeing vf-4 at all except for the canards Quote
GunnerX Posted January 12, 2004 Posted January 12, 2004 Very nice! Thumbs up! Is that snow in the background? Quote
Less than Super Ostrich Posted January 12, 2004 Posted January 12, 2004 Very nice! Thumbs up! Is that snow in the background? yep... its cold here in Chicago. Quote
Neova Posted January 12, 2004 Posted January 12, 2004 Great Job! I love your paintjob! I wanted to buy the Yukikazes too but at 1/100, I think I'll hold onto my money. wmcheng, what do you think of the Platz version? Is it worth the cash for it? We found one on the shopathon and its a grip. Quote
