Holy Sh-t that is awesome! Don't get excited about that. It's just another JJ trick of let me show you a good image to most likely hide a poor to so so movie. It's the same as the Enterprise on Earth shot in the Star Trek reboot. It would be funny if this Death Star shot isn't even in the movie. If it was just made for exciting fans in a trailer. I like Rogue One and didn't watch any of the trailers before seeing the movie. I watched the trailer afterwards and there is a cool shot of a TIE Fighter and Jyn that isn't in the movie at all. I only watched this latest Star Wars trailer because I'm basically out on the series but still a bit curious what it might bring. I'm still not seeing it in theaters. And the teaser trailer didn't do much of anything to excite me. I'm just not attached to these characters after two movies. And for guessing sake, if the Emperor is involved in this then that's the second Death Star. Honestly those old clone Emperor stories from that old comic are sounding pretty good now. I remember how people thought a clone Emperor would ruin Vader's redemption in Return of the Jedi. Of course those people didn't realize that we would get the prequels, these sequels, and all kinds of other spinoff cartoons. Quote

I'll try and keep my Hype from Rising though, because the trailers for TLJ looked good too. But still, Rian is not directing and I did like TFA even though it was a hybrid between a reboot and a sequel. So far, all this looks really good. And of course, Palpatine for the win! When the franchise is in danger, you call out the Emperor! Quote

Nah, after The Last Jedi, I’m out. I don’t hate Solo. But I never felt the desire to watch it, even though I can easily stream it. So, why should I give money for this film? One of my buddies suggested hate-watching it, just so we could talk ish during the movie. But I don’t feel like paying Disney for this specifically, especially since they haven’t done enough in the past two films to make me care for the main hero trio or the main villain. I’d rather watch the upcoming last episodes of Clone Wars or rewatch the last half-season of Rebels. Quote

I'm talking about building one's OWN lightsaber. Luke built his own. EVERY FREAKIN' Jedi built their own sabers. Meanwhile Rey is rockin that same hilt for the past 3 movies. Even after she broke it. Could have taking the scraps and built a brand new personal saber.... JJabrams is nothing if not consistent in offering up the rose-tinted glasses. I think I'd prefer if Rey just never made another lightsaber. Its absence would be a stark reminder of the ending of an era, and of Rey's incredibly unorthodox Jedi training. Besides, she's shown plenty of times she's adept with other melee weapons. Have her use electrified whips or something, I dunno, make it glow a little to justify it being able to clash against lightsabers. People have been able to do amazing whip fights on a budget one one-thousandth of this movie's. 7 hours ago, Mommar said: “Every generation has a legend...” and sometimes it’s just a legendary f**k up. It sounds like this powerful and moving phrase on first glance, but it's little more than nonsensical gibberish when you think about it for even half a second. "Every saga has a beginning.", from the marketing for Episode 1, that worked great. It fit the movie, it was a true statement, etc. etc. "Every generation has a legend." Well yeah, except legends are stories that persist across many dozens if not hundreds of generations of people. What can charitably be called the "legend" of Rey's generation is largely the same as the "legend" of Luke's generation, ie the whole Jedi and Sith thing. Or is the "legend" of Rey's generation the story of the Rebels ie the events of the original trilogy? Is she going to come face to face with that "legend"? I mean she already has, so why make it seem like that will be the big point of this movie? I rolled my eyes through the entire trailer. I just... This trailer makes the movie seem aimless. Here's hoping that's not the case and expecting it will be. Quote

hachi Posted April 13, 2019 Posted April 13, 2019 (edited) I was very disappointed when they used the death star in TFA. I love the new characters introduced, but I guess JJ ran out of ideas when it came to the villains and how to make them scary/powerful without doing another death star. I remember his Star Trek Into Darkness. Khan was scary in Star Trek II but was wasted in JJ's version. I am of the opinion it was a mistake to hand him Star Wars. (And I liked Star Trek/Star Trek Beyond which he didn't write...) That said I will probably watch this to complete the trilogy. Hope it's not bad. I will be happy with an average movie (formulaic but not bad). P.S. JJ's co-writer is Chris Terrio who wrote the screenplays for Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and Justice League. Arrgh. But he also wrote for Argo... Edited April 13, 2019 by hachi double post Quote

It's not hard to imagine why... the backlash against The Last Jedi and Solo: a Star Wars Story was so severe that it not only put an enormous dent in Star Wars's box office draw, it led to a Star Wars film ending as a box office flop. Disney was having that exact same realization the Empire and First Order had when they discovered their invincible macguffin was a good deal less invinicible than previously advertised. Any business would be playing it safe after an unexpected one-two punch like that. Star Wars fans might not really know what they want in a sequel, but they're demonstrably happier with films and shows that take no risks and push no envelopes than they are with anything that changes the dynamic of the Star Wars setting. 54 minutes ago, tekering said: Oh, Doomcock loved Alita: Battle Angel. I would actually say SW fans knew what they wanted. After RoTJ, there was an entire Expanded Universe that carried the characters along believable arcs with compelling stories and villainous villains. But then it was thrown out, and everything the fans thought they knew that happened after RoTJ went with it. So instead of Han and Leia struggling but surviving in their marriage and having several children and vaunted careers, Han is still just a smuggler who has had no growth and is still struggling to make do, and estranged from Leia who is now just a commander of a fringe force. Rather than an Imperial Remnant and a resurgent Sith, we get the oddly named First Order and the Knights of Ren who have no backstory other than a title and a nightmare scene only a few seconds long, and Snoke who has no history at all when compared to Palpatine. And instead of Luke struggling to rebuild the Jedi, while winning and then losing Mara, he's turned into a curmudgeon who is so frozen with fear that he won't do anything when his friends and family are threatened. This is the guy who faced the evil Emperor and saved his father's immortal soul, but instead he's just turned in an old fart spending his days wandering an island and drinking blue titty-milk... And envelopes were pushed when Mara was killed by her nephew, Han and Leia's son, and when Chewie died... This was the fear when they threw out the EU. I remember remarking when the decision was made, as to why they wouldn't use it? The plans and back stories were there to be cherry-picked and thrown up onto the big screen in a grand cavalcade of sagas, events supported by and fondly looked upon by the fans - but instead... ugh... That is where the worst decision of all was made. 1 hour ago, Sildani said: Not gonna lie, I heard the official title and thought: “that sounds like Luke is getting a Viagra.” Then I saw the trailer immediately afterwards and... well... that black screen with the heavy breathing... This movie may be tainted to me through no fault of its own. And what if it’s Ben that’s the rising Skywalker? Sadly, I had that thought too and it was echoed by others in reviews. It's similar to the first trailer for TFA and TLJ, but yes a definite pron vibe. As to Kylo, he's not a Skywalker who would be descended from Luke, but a Solo. He was Ben Solo. I would find it incredibly odd for him to suddenly take on the name of the man who, in his eyes, was intent on killing him. I would find it much more likely, if he ever returned to the Light, that he would instead seek to atone for killing his father by retaking his rightful name. And I really hope that Kylo dies at the end of this anyway, having fully embraced the Dark Side and never giving up on it. I think The Rise of Skywalker refers to Rey. Not because she may still somehow be Luke's daughter, but because she may choose to take on the name in remembrance and honor to Luke. If they do keep that she has no parents and was just thrown away, then she has no last name anyway and is free to choose how she will identify herself. If Palpatine is in this as much as I hope he is, then I hope we get a scene where she states to him, 'I am a Skywalker, like my Master before me...' Edited April 14, 2019 by Thom Quote
