And..?

Saber fight still looks like sh*t. Palps’ return pretty much negates RotJ. And horses? Really? Horses?

This movie will make a ton of money but be “meh” at best. Just throwing it out there now.

There are some impressive scenes in that trailer (looks like the rebels have an actual fleet this time) however Last Jedi destroyed my trust in these movies so bad I'll wait for some honest reviews before I go rushing out to see it.

Actually, that was the one seen that really got me excited.  Might not make sense, but I thought it was bad ass.

Still not sure that I'll pay to see it in a theater though.  I've passed on a lot of things this year.

Eh, why not? There's humans, and apparently falcons. May as well be horses too.

I'd be singing a different tune if I were invested in this trainwreck of a franchise, mind you. The Force Awakens dealt nicely with any lingering brand loyalty.

Edit: Ah. Combat ON horseback. My response is the same. Eh, why not?

So, interesting ideas, but I'm feeling like the horses thing is just them going "How can we one-up the Battle of Endor?"  "I know!  Let's have it in an atmosphere somehow this time, so we can have people fighting on the outside of the ships!"  "Brilliant!  We can have them storm the command towers on horseback!"

I'm cautiously interested to see where they take it, but I think I'm done treating this as actual Star Wars.  I'm calling the new trilogy the sequel to Turkish Star Wars.

I see a ton of JJ-isms that hurt me.

An ISD-1 rising out of the ocean?  Ugh
Horses riding across the surface of an ISD-1.  Ugh
I WAS PROMISED WEDGE!!!  WHERE THE F IS WEDGE????
What is up with all the ISD-1s?

Palps will be some kind of robot, cyborg, or brain in a jar.
C-3PO is going to make some form of sacrifice that turns the eyes red and either makes him mcguffin of the movie, or allows for the "transmission" of Luke's story to go out, per the early story leak.

There will be force ghosts.

This is the one scene from the trailer I'd like to see on the big screen. It is nice to see the Falcon with it's old school radar dish back.

I can't wait to watch the space battle clips on youtube and skip any and all story.  Exactly how I watch JJ's Star Trek films.

Is that the Ghost in that shot?

As I’ve said many times, JJ is an idea-guy. While he can come up with stuff, but follow through isn’t his strong suit.

Does look like the same model ship.

If Disney were smart they'd show us Ezra and Sabine and plant the seeds for some prequels to explain the cameos.

Nah, Thrawn commandeered the Ghost, and that is the scene right before he blows the Falcon to smithereens.

Subverting expectations, baby!!:diablo:

The sad part is, the battles were among the most egregiously rotten parts of TLJ, so you can't even really enjoy the shoot-em-up bits of that mess. :(

They were egregiously wrong in Star Trek too but they looked good.

Looks like allies from the outer rim finally arrived. I'll see it on the big screen, as i have for the previous eight. If it's the best of the new trilogy, at least that will be something.  So much has already been ruined with the first two, we'll see how it goes..

Wasn't overly blown away by the trailer.

Didn't like the horses also.

Still, I'll watch it in the cinema when it opens. Its a tradition. Probably see it at least twice, even if it's bad.

Have to use the horses correctly, in a Calvary charge...   across a star destroyer... in space.

You know, the main problem is that with all these pretend plot twist, my brain just hurts.  I am just waiting for the Kylo REN reacts video now....  at least we will get some entertainment out of this.

The whole current trilogy negates the entire original trilogy.  The Empire wasn't defeated - it was reborn, The Emperor wasn't killed - he was reborn, The Jedi didn't return - they were nearly wiped out by one of their own.

You thought the heroes of Yavin were actually heroes and role models who saved the galaxy and had a happy ending?

Ha!  30 years later those losers failed us all.  Now that I think about it we're going to have another trilogy a decade from now that explains how the ghost of the ghost of the emperor is still alive and everything Rey did to save the galaxy back then was pretty pointless.

One of the biggest things that stood out for me from this trailer was the Ghost.  I hope we see more than just the ship, but not holding my breath.

Shoot, I'd take that if it led to us getting Thrawn on the big screen.

I'm actually most curious about what happens in this movie that might set up whatever next trilogy is on the way since there will be another...  and another... and another...

To be entirely fair, the same was true of the old Star Wars Expanded Universe... and the Star Wars fanbase LOVED that sh*t.

The Empire stuck around for ages after its defeat, remained a threat, and even briefly reconquered the galaxy before being taken over by the a new Sith Lord.

Our boy Palpatine engaged in some downright memeworthy shenanigans to make death into an almost-literal revolving door and came back from the dead multiple times... never mind the Empire's ongoing fixation with apocalyptic superweapons.

The Jedi return, only to nearly get wiped out by one of their own on several different occasions... one such Jedi-turned-Sith Lord who essentially toppled the Republic was even Han Solo's son.

So... exactly like the pre-Disney Star Wars continuations?

This was inevitable.  The series is called Star Wars.  Star Stable Government, Peace, Diplomacy, and Rational Thought goes by the shorter, rather punchier title of Star Trek.  Any kind of a continuation of Star Wars inevitably means a Happy Ending Override for the conclusion of Return of the Jedi.  The only way to have a resurgent Empire threaten the galaxy once again in thrall to the Dark Side of the Force is for our heroes to have failed utterly in the wake of Return of the Jedi's events.  Keeping that action going means the Star Wars Galaxy Far Far Away needs to be a grim, hopeless place semi-perpetually mired in hopeless wars against genocidal totalitarian powers puppeteered by devotees of the Dark Side.  There will never be a true and lasting victory for the forces of light.  The best they can hope for is to briefly hold the darkness at bay before it once more overwhelms the forces of light and drowns the galaxy in darkness, oppression, and misery so the next generation of plucky rebels can fight the exact same good fight and briefly triumph before evil sneakily triumphs again while they're busy resting on their laurels.

Yeah, Palpy 2.0 honestly never bothered me in the EU, since they made such a big deal with the clones, and given the later additions from the prequels, I figured the entire "learn to cheat death" bit was obvious foreshadowing.  I honestly blame TLJ for the asspullishness of this reveal, because if Snoke hadn't wound up being such a pile of irrelevant nonsense, we might actually have gotten a good lead-up to it.

I do have to wonder about what the situation with the huge fleet battle is though.  They're obviously looking at Endor and going "Hold my beer" with the implied scale, but what exactly is even going on?  What sort of time-spatial shenanigans is providing for a giant fleet of ships appearing in some sort of atmospheric bubble, and what's with the giant crystal doohickey?

Are we going to get another midichlorians moment when they reveal that the giant crystal is actually the physical representation of the dark side in its entirety, and get a Yukikaze ending when Rey and Kylo fly the Falcon into the heart of it while the atmosphere bubble collapses around it, and everyone is ejected back out into normal space while the crystal collapses, and the Force rebalances itself?

I really don't have any major qualms about seeing it in theaters, because yeah, it's a tradition, and I want to at least see it for myself for the talking points.  I'm just really not expecting anything that will fix anything from the past two movies, let alone even connect with the OT.  TFA and TLJ both had their own enjoyable moments if you ignored the overarching (lack of coherent) story, so I don't doubt this will have some good parts.

The boys and I are pretty meh, but the promise of Wedge got out butts into the $5 showing on Saturday Morning.

Still weird that Wedge is Obi Wan's uncle.

I definitely see ships from the same class as:

Ghost, Shadowcaster, U-wing, Nebulon-B, Pelta, Hammerhead, goofy E8 star bomber, and various Mon Cal ships, including the one from Rogue One. Obviously, these are all existing assets in their library. Hopefully there are some prequel-era ships in there as well.

I'm hoping for a good one. I've mostly enjoyed the new trilogy; 8 did let me down in several ways, but I don't want to get into it. I will definitely be seeing this in the theater. It might be my son's first SW theater experience; and I'm sure he'll love it, if he's not too scared. Fingers crossed that, even if it's not great, this movie will bring the fan reception out of its continual loop of gloom.

I think that's what's brought my enthusiasm for the franchise down, more than the films themselves - the fact that EVERY Star Wars discussion thread I've seen over the last 2 years continuously repeats the same cycle of annoyances, angst, arguments, attacks and bickering after about 10 posts. It's just not that fun to share in the community of Star Wars anymore.

See, I get this weird feeling that we're about to see a Star Wars-branded Time Crash.  I don't know how much water any of the rumors hold, but the idea that we're going to see Wedge again, along with that massive fleet that seems to be sourced from every property in the entire franchise, makes me wonder if we're going to see them pulling heroes from across the entire timeline to come together for a final battle.

At the very least, they seem to be pulling designs from all over the place in that fleet shot.  I'm seeing designs I haven't seen since the X-Wing games, since I'm pretty sure there are a few Corellian gunships, and what looks like a classic escort carrier design, and even some Ssi-Ruuk-looking ships in the mix there, along with the Nebulon-B, Ghost, Hammerhead, and even something that at first glance looks like a vintage V-Wing.  Definitely a Home One-looking Mon-Cal in background of the upper right as well, besides the obvious classic corvettes.

That shot alone has me interested in seeing it, honestly.  It's obviously a shot of nostalgia, while trying to out-do all the other movies in sheer scale, but that doesn't mean it won't be a spectacular battle to watch.

Note- Far as all the ISD-1s go, I wouldn't be surprised if they just didn't feel the need to make a new model, and just went with the digital one from Rogue One.  I'm hoping we'll see some better variety, but it could also be related plot-wise to how long Palpy's been keeping this fleet hidden.
