Big s Posted October 16, 2016 Posted October 16, 2016 It really was a great little con. Lots of fun and great people to hang out with and awesome events. Quote
CC-tan Posted October 17, 2016 Posted October 17, 2016 this looks so neat! Hope I can make it next year >< Quote
VX31 Posted October 17, 2016 Posted October 17, 2016 a few words of encouragement post-convention.. please don't take it as nit picky just want to make the convention more engaging? Sign in: The bottle neck was getting people into the door. I showed up at ~11:30 and the line was pretty much back to the street. It took me close to 30 minutes just to enter the door, and then when I purchased my ticket (at the door) there was no change available, I was able to get change later, but it seems to be this was a complete oversight. Small bills needed to be available as soon as the doors were open. There could have been signs for PRE-REG and DOOR that could have made checking in easier. I did see people that had pre-registered printed out things with a QR code, not sure if people were scanning them or not. I would have thought that would make it move faster. Activities: This was my 2nd convention. My first was a couple years back, but it seemed about the same? Maybe the first time was more exciting cuz it was the first...but both times, I couldn't stay the whole time. I was expecting more Delta stuff since its new, but there was like 1 model? One of the things that was cool was the giant cockpit display in the back area. Maybe next year if you had a few wooden cut outs of a Valk or Zentradi, or whatever with a hole for your head to poke through or something fun like that you could take pictures with, could add to the experience. I had my kid with me this time and she kept saying it was boring and nothing to do. I know she wouldn't be interested in the panel discussions, but perhaps a kid play fun area next time (i.e. build a mech out of Legos? paper crafting or coloring in a valk? or something to get the next generation into it would have been neat). TV screen setup looping old episodes, or an old playstation with VF-X playing or something interactive. Food: The food truck was pretty tasty. Thank you for bringing it out. the parking out back has plenty of room for more trucks. Vendors: Its nice to see the vendors supporting the convention; however the pricing on everything seemed above market rate, unless you wanted a open/damaged box which it is what it is... Didn't see any convention exclusives, maybe I missed it. I do live locally to this event, and I can see how this might have jaded my experience since its just down the street from where I live and I didn't have to make travel arrangements, etc... if any of the organizers for next year would like assistance for my kid area suggestions, I wouldn't mind volunteering for that if time (and wife) allows. Big s Posted October 17, 2016 Posted October 17, 2016 (edited) This was more of a for fans only event. I took my daughter and we both loved it. She's a second generation fan. We loved the people and the panels were very easy to get into. I also liked that the rules were relaxed and allowed for standing and viewing the display items. There may have been a lack of delta items, but that was probably due to very few delta fans contributing to the display. There were definitely a few cosplayers supporting delta. The sales booths did have some high price items, but after talking to the sellers I realized a lot of them were actual fans and were having a hard time letting go of personal collections. The prices were based on love of the items and these people were great to talk to and often times had amazing stories about how they came across their collections. All in all it was more fun than the much bigger anime expo. Edited October 17, 2016 by Big s Quote

I had a great a time but I do agree with you... I think the sign in process should have been smoother especially if you pre-registered for the event. Walk-ups got in in like 30 seconds as opposed to the 15-20 minutes for those who pre-registered. I only saw one person checking peoples names in the computer and putting the convention bags together, I think that slow things down a lot. Maybe some volunteers didn't show up or the QR reader was down but all in all I thought it was a great convention and very well put together. I'm definitely looking forward to next year. Quote
Mazinger Posted October 18, 2016 Posted October 18, 2016 I want to thank the organizers and all the volunteers for their hard work. This was my second year attending and I had a great time. It's nice to put faces to the fans that I hear from on FB, the forums, and now on twitter. The talent and dedication in this community is phenomenal. As for suggestions, I think the following would be cool as side panels, ie not necessarily main events: 1) Modelling/customization workshop - get tips, learn some techniques from the pros. 2) Fan-led discussions on any number of Macross topics. Part of the fun for me in meeting up with fans is talking about people's pet theories and fiction ideas. Quote
Global Posted October 18, 2016 Posted October 18, 2016 I'll add my thanks to the organizers. I had a great time. The way this convention has grown over the years is remarkable. The quality of guests, panels and activities is nothing short of amazing for such a niche convention. You guys really have been in a ton of work into this con and I really would like to express my thanks! Quote
Britai 7018 Posted October 18, 2016 Posted October 18, 2016 Big Thank You to all the Vendors, Guests, Volunteers and Organizers! It was definitely a great chance to meet new people and be surrounded by equally passionate Macross Fans. Walkure (Sorry I don't know their real names) and Mari Ijima gave awesome performances. Speaking of awesome performances, all the participants in the Cosplay contest was fantastic. There were a bunch of Cosplayers who didn't participate in the contest that should have! It was great to see so many rare collectibles and customs on display as well. Can't wait until the next one! Quote
Operator7G Posted October 20, 2016 Posted October 20, 2016 A most HUGE thank you to absolutely everyone that helped make the con possible! Since I was responsible for the exhibit, I want to especially thank: Alec Orrock Alex Avalos Bee Kong Britai 7018 David Hib Dennis Mah Diana Tolin Gabe Inocencio Jason Cline Joey Maldonado Kyle Dunn Leonardo Flores Marco Palma aka Mazinger Michael Wine Oliver Richard Clark Tommy Fitzgibbon and most importantly, Lynn Kaifun! As for your feedback and suggestions, please do keep listing them or send one of the staff members (like me!) a message. Duly noted on the registration issues. We used to have more "leisure" time and a greater variety of things happening such as karaoke, video gaming, etc. when it was for two days but one day is a whirlwind and we need a lot of time for setup and breakdown. Any volunteer help is most appreciated. We're getting to that age when kids are now very much a part of the con so we may look into things that are kid-friendly. We previously had high-end con exclusive for sale but this year it was only the items at various registration levels. This is a 100% volunteer-led event so thank you for your understanding! Quote
Mazinger Posted October 21, 2016 Posted October 21, 2016 Hey Lynn, any chance you could hook up a performance by Fire Bomber American? I love their music, it's so much better than that weird Japanese band's covers from the M7 fleet. Quote
HeavenCanceller Posted October 23, 2016 Posted October 23, 2016 Thanks to the Macross World staff for another great convention this year! It's the fourth year in a row me and my friends have attended and its always a ton of fun! MWC has become the one con my friends and I don't want to miss each year - we love the cozy nature of it versus all the big cons. That being said I hope next year sees some new activities to spice things up. When we first attended it seemed like there was more variety with the transformation and drawing contests. The past couple of years it's seemed to just be guests and the cosplay competition. Also we kinda miss the cafe from last year. It was nice to be able to grab food and not have to miss any of the stuff going on in the main hall by having to wait in a long line at a food truck. The food truck closing early was a bummer too - the program said it was going to be open until 4 so we were disappointed to see them close by 3 when we went out to finally get something to eat. I know Okamoto Kitchen closing early wasn't under your control so I don't blame the con staff but I thought it was still worth a mention. Overall though it was another awesome convention and I've attached some of the photos I got while we were there Quote
Macross_Fanboy Posted October 28, 2016 Posted October 28, 2016 It was fun, my son had a good time although he didn't tell me his stomach hurt and he was feeling sick. Spent quite a bit of coin there, hardest decision I had was deciding which Variable Fighter Master File to buy LOL Quote
Focslain Posted November 17, 2016 Posted November 17, 2016 Have to see about visiting one year. Didn't know about this until recently. Hope you guys manage to keep this running for many, many years. Quote
Tochiro Posted December 14, 2016 Posted December 14, 2016 Adrian sat down with the SpeakerPODcast America crew to talk about MWC.The audio is a bit spotty, but we hope you guys enjoy it.Also, thanks to everyone for being on the cast!http://www.macrossworld.com/speakerpodcast-ep-70-macross-world-convention-2016/ Quote
sh9000 Posted December 14, 2016 Posted December 14, 2016 The 1/48 Regult and Glaug were awesome to see in person. Quote
Operator7G Posted January 14, 2017 Posted January 14, 2017 Hey everybody! We're putting together the next con and taking into consideration all your suggestions. We're also expanding the space for more dealers and in hopes of incorporating some more ideas. Any thing you'd like to suggest or can help us out with, please let me know! We will definitely be thinking about: pre-registration/walk-ups food trucks modeling panel fan-led panel kid-friendly area more toys on display What else? Remember, this is a fan-led convention so it's as good as you help us make it! Quote
