sbarrett4 Posted January 7, 2004 Posted January 7, 2004 Minmay Guard Having some free time after Christmas allowed me to finish this. Its my first time using waterslide decals in almost 20 years and I am happy with the ease of use (thanks Devin!). Its based off the Minmay Guard picture thats been floating around here for a while. I used a Jetfire body, recast 1/48 VF-1S head, and Devin's decals, along with a little paint. Low Vis is next, should be done by the end of the week. Quote
Anasazi37 Posted January 7, 2004 Posted January 7, 2004 Nice job, Shan! I do believe that yours is the first completed chunky monkey Minmay Guard custom. It looks great. Can't wait to see the 1/55 LV custom.... Quote
Solscud007 Posted January 7, 2004 Posted January 7, 2004 Who I like it!!! Only thing the blue used for the stock of the gunpod seems a little too deep. But Matching color of a decal is hard enough not Like I could do any better. haha well done!!! Quote
EXO Posted January 7, 2004 Posted January 7, 2004 Wow. That 1/48 recast head is perfect on the 1/55. At first I thought it wasa Chris Berreta head. Looks clean. Quote
Anasazi37 Posted January 7, 2004 Posted January 7, 2004 Only thing the blue used for the stock of the gunpod seems a little too deep. But Matching color of a decal is hard enough Yeah, I'm *still* looking for a perfect paint match for the purple/blue in the decals. I'll let everyone know when I find one.... Quote
Graham Posted January 7, 2004 Posted January 7, 2004 The decals look great, but that Chunky Monkey sure looks weird with the 1/48 head stuck on top. Just looks wrong IMO. Graham Quote
EXO Posted January 7, 2004 Posted January 7, 2004 Awww, c'mon Graham... the head looks alright... what scares me is what's on the other end of that canopy... maybe Ray is the pilot... hmmm... Quote
Graham Posted January 7, 2004 Posted January 7, 2004 Awww, c'mon Graham... the head looks alright... what scares me is what's on the other end of that canopy... maybe Ray is the pilot... hmmm... Nah, IMO having the sleek, perfectly proportioned 1/48 head stuck onto the chunky, poorly proportioned 1/55 body just doesn't work IMO. Don't get me wrong, I think this Minmay Guard 1/55 Custom looks great, but it would be better with the original 1/55 head, to match the 1/55 body. Graham Quote
NeoverseOmega Posted January 7, 2004 Posted January 7, 2004 Um, are all the valks erogenous zones supposed to be pink like that? Quote
sbarrett4 Posted January 7, 2004 Author Posted January 7, 2004 Awww, c'mon Graham... the head looks alright... what scares me is what's on the other end of that canopy... maybe Ray is the pilot... hmmm... I used the 1/48 head because it has more of a neck than a standard chunky monkey head, and I wanted to have the purple coloring there. The pink on the nose is darker than the guide pictures I used, but that was as close as I could get. Same goes for the blue on the gunpod. The flash makes the blue look worse than it really is though Quote
gnollman Posted January 7, 2004 Posted January 7, 2004 Looks great. Kind of odd, but hey.... Are these decal sets in 1/55 or 1/72? First I've heard of them.... Quote
mslz22 Posted January 7, 2004 Posted January 7, 2004 Great Job Shan, I really like the 1/48 head, it is really almost the same size as the Chris B head only, like you said, it has the neck. Once again Awesome..... Quote
Anasazi37 Posted January 8, 2004 Posted January 8, 2004 Looks great. Kind of odd, but hey.... Are these decal sets in 1/55 or 1/72? First I've heard of them.... I make them in 1/72, 1/60, 1/55, and 1/48. You can see pics of them at this site: http://www.netwiz.net/~dwhite/decals/decal...al_samples.html And here's a pic of the Hasegawa model they are based on: Quote
Vermillion One Posted January 8, 2004 Posted January 8, 2004 Looks great, nice work all around. From the decals to the completion of the custom, nice and original. Do you have any pics in fighter mode? I may have a temporary link, but I only see two, both in battloid. Quote
Anasazi37 Posted January 8, 2004 Posted January 8, 2004 wow, are those decals for sale? Yes, but I am not taking orders right now. They should be available again in about a month. Quote

I'll take some and post them when I am able. Quote
yellowlightman Posted January 8, 2004 Posted January 8, 2004 Looks like Geocities isn't letting the page load. If you're looking for some free space, check out my sig. I wanna see your custom! I've got a 1/55th waiting for the same treatment. Quote

I'll keep that in mind. Do us all a favor and let us know when you're taking orders again... I'd hate to miss out. Quote

Mr March Posted January 9, 2004 Posted January 9, 2004 Very nice custom. Though I dislike the old 1/55 flying bricks, this is a quality custom job. Great work! Quote
mbs357 Posted January 10, 2004 Posted January 10, 2004 That is a great custom. For some reason I've grown to like the Minmay Guard quite a bit. If I can find a pic of the decal sheet or something, I may install VO again to have a crack at a custom skin...bwahahaha... No one cared about my MW schemed one. =[ Quote
robokochan Posted January 10, 2004 Posted January 10, 2004 Man that looks SWEEEEETTTT! I am glad that the 1:55's are gettin' some love again. Outstanding work! Rob MN Quote
JValk Posted January 11, 2004 Posted January 11, 2004 That looks GREAT! I can't wait to hold a tricked-out VF-1A Minmay Guard Chunky Monkey in my hands! Quote
kanata67 Posted January 11, 2004 Posted January 11, 2004 nice work shan. The nice thing about a chunky custom is that it retains it's ability to bash things without breaking. Hasn't anyone heard of playing "valksies"? It's like knivesies but rather than knives you wing the valk of you choice as hard as you can at your opponent until one of you has to go to the hospital. Using a jetfire [my preffered choice] is fine but filling the hollow areas with lead is not Does the 1/48 head transform as well as the regular or do you have to "finess" it? I know I had to rig a removable head for my violator custom but my exo-skelaton with manga head works fina as long as I rotate the head. I had one of those heads and was thinking of doing the head mod myself but greenguy had a 1/48 and really wanted the head... which reminds me... he never showed pics like he promised Quote
sbarrett4 Posted January 11, 2004 Author Posted January 11, 2004 Does the 1/48 head transform as well as the regular or do you have to "finess" it? I finess it. I had to hollow out the neck to make it fit on the peg, in doing so, I damaged the peg that the screw would go into. I wouldn't see any reason why it wouldn't transform like a normal 1/55 head though. Quote
bigkid24 Posted January 11, 2004 Posted January 11, 2004 That looks like a really well done custom. Now that I see the entire Minmay guard details though i think it's kind of an obnoxious scheme. I prefer things that are more subtle, but that is a GREAT job. Good work. Quote
orguss01 Posted January 11, 2004 Posted January 11, 2004 Um, are all the valks erogenous zones supposed to be pink like that? Right.....my eye just "goes there" ....... Maybe its the jetfire nosecone,,all nice and round and soft,,(*eyes get all dreamy***)...,uh i digress...yeah get this guy a Taka nose... Quote
eminent Posted January 12, 2004 Posted January 12, 2004 That's pretty sweet. Hopefully one day I'll have the guts to do something like that. Quote
