NZEOD Posted July 21, 2016 Posted July 21, 2016 I REALLY need a 1/72 VF-17 and a VF-171 series fighters in my Hall Museum but they JUST DONT EXIST! I'll pay a few hundred for one and I'm sure a couple of others would jump on the band wagon with this (maybe not paying the price I would...) to fill out the orders. This is a weird one as its not an uncommon design in the anime series yet its never been done in this scale while most everything else has. Any takers? Quote
wmkjr Posted July 22, 2016 Posted July 22, 2016 (edited) Tall order for this one as the only ones made in 1/72 were Wonderfest exclusives I believe. Wonderfest 2016 Summer is happening this weekend. Maybe there is a rare chance it might appear? edit: Dunno if seventh moon is even participating this time. Edited July 22, 2016 by wmkjr Quote
NZEOD Posted July 22, 2016 Author Posted July 22, 2016 (edited) I'm thinking more along the lines of our resident 3D gurus coming up with one or our own over the next year like they did for the Drones and now the Workroid. Being WAAAAAAAY Down under in NZ getting to Wonderfest isnt an option and Proxy buyers dont exist. Edited July 22, 2016 by NZEOD Quote
wmkjr Posted July 22, 2016 Posted July 22, 2016 Ahh, got it. Maybe with Delta out someone will do the VF-171 in 1/72. Quote
Xigfrid Posted July 22, 2016 Posted July 22, 2016 Fighter only is very feasible, but I am with wmkjr on the VF-171: Bandai could even make the transforming 171 in 1/72 because of the named one. Quote
NZEOD Posted July 22, 2016 Author Posted July 22, 2016 listen the voices.... whats that? you want to make the VF-17 fighter?.... ok.... Quote
Xigfrid Posted July 22, 2016 Posted July 22, 2016 I will have a look at the VF 17. If you have access to a 3D printer let me know which one. Preferably a resin one Quote
Xigfrid Posted July 22, 2016 Posted July 22, 2016 Here is the 1/72 resize. I don't like the cockpit on the colored line, it's looks too big compared to the 1m80 men silhouette. I would better follow the shapes of this lineart. And I am really not a fan of Macross7 anime proportions! Quote
Kelsain Posted July 22, 2016 Posted July 22, 2016 Heh, I should have access to a resin printer soon, after my wife gets it set up. Open source model? At that point, I'll really need to start brushing up on my 3D skills... Quote

Line art looks far better -- that cockpit on the coloured art is cartoonish in proportions. Quote
Xigfrid Posted July 22, 2016 Posted July 22, 2016 Here is where I am at after a few hours. This is really an early sketch, it needs refinements and detailing but some lines are pretty, I will try to share it through Sketchup Warehouse later. This can be a resin kit once printed and refined. Who wants to take over? Quote

I just uploaded it to the warehouse https://3dwarehouse.sketchup.com/embed.html?mid=702d464e-c7fb-4f53-b193-8dcdb73676d1&width=580&height=326 Quote
Kelsain Posted July 24, 2016 Posted July 24, 2016 It might be a while before we get the printer set up in the lab. One of the things we're waiting on is a computer to run it! We are totally going to order 2 distinct supplies of resin, though. 1 for relevant projects, 1 for personal. Quote
NZEOD Posted July 24, 2016 Author Posted July 24, 2016 a decade since the VF17 appeared and we've waited for a 1/72 version... alittle longer waiting wont kill anyone Quote
Xigfrid Posted July 24, 2016 Posted July 24, 2016 wait... you did this over 2 days?? The model is not quiet finish! But I am sure Kelsain can finish it pretty fast or make a new one from the illustrations that are embedded into the model. Quote
Kelsain Posted July 24, 2016 Posted July 24, 2016 It'll give me a good excuse to start up again at least. You said you're using sketch up? I have done a few projects in FormZ, which is a simpler Mac friendly SolidWorks. I have issues doing panel lines, though. So far, my simple successes are Lego SDFM helmets & 6" scale Captain Rex pistols for a black series conversion. I've tried to model some Macross ships, but haven't messed with it much lately. Quote
slide Posted July 25, 2016 Posted July 25, 2016 I'm interested in a fighter-mode kit of the '17 and the '171! And I'm wiling to pay what it takes to get one of each... Quote

FireBat01 Posted April 26, 2017 Posted April 26, 2017 (edited) I hate to revive this old topic but is this still an on going project? Edited April 26, 2017 by FireBat01 Quote

Xigfrid Posted April 26, 2017 Posted April 26, 2017 NZEOD did actually found an official kit of the 171, I don't know for the 17 though. Quote
FireBat01 Posted April 26, 2017 Posted April 26, 2017 Oh for real? I know about the small, non-transforming kit from Delta. I wonder if thats it. Quote
chyll2 Posted April 26, 2017 Posted April 26, 2017 it is a resin kit sold in some event in Japan. Official because it is a licensed product (limited though). Â https://page.auctions.yahoo.co.jp/jp/auction/c587890752 Quote
FireBat01 Posted April 26, 2017 Posted April 26, 2017 Ah ok. That's cool. Also sucks that it's limited. Quote
Kelsain Posted April 26, 2017 Posted April 26, 2017 Funny to see this come up again. My wife finally got the printer set up this month; as yet I haven't had a chance to play with it. I've got a few other smaller models I want to try before I even attempt printing something like this... So far, she's been taking it through it's paces; printing extinct shark teeth, Tully Monsters, neurons and clitori for teaching purposes. Quote
Xigfrid Posted April 26, 2017 Posted April 26, 2017 I was looking around the web and looks like the VF-17 kit also exists: that would be a "Seventh Moon" 1:72 scale. http://www.geocities.jp/tf_ranger/mokei_sonota_vf-17.html   Quote
Chronocidal Posted April 26, 2017 Posted April 26, 2017 That one actually looks like it shares a lot with the Yamato 1/60th version, at least in terms of the nose shape. I'm tempted to scan in the Yamato instruction manual, and go to town tweaking it into a slightly more streamlined shape... Quote
Xigfrid Posted April 27, 2017 Posted April 27, 2017 I really like this nose! And the landing gear too! Quote
derex3592 Posted April 27, 2017 Posted April 27, 2017 cool kit, looks very anime accurate with that funky big front gear Quote
