trojan_gambit Posted August 29, 2016 Posted August 29, 2016 Since I am still waiting for the yellow spray can I couldn't finish the legs and forearms... But I couldn't help assembling it together for a temporary display. There are detailling bits missing but I think it looks pretty cute already! Cute it is. How do the parts fit together (especially on the joint) ? As from what I understand, the 3D printing itself has inaccuracies. Quote
Xigfrid Posted August 29, 2016 Author Posted August 29, 2016 I use SLS printers (through Shapeways) and from experience I got not more than 0.2mm errors which are easily rectified by a quick sanding or priming. For instance, I made pre-drilled holes of 1mm diameter for the screws on the model and all of them (30+) were perfectly printed. I guess you will seat a 1/60 Hayate figure from the DX when it comes out! If I can get one... I didn't made it during the pre-orders. Quote
Xigfrid Posted August 30, 2016 Author Posted August 30, 2016 its AWESOME!! Is it 1/72 or 1/60 scale? Unfortunately for your increasing collection, this one is 1:60... Is this available through Shapeways? Yep and at the same place as the others, or you can leave me a PM to discuss it! Quote
Tage Posted September 3, 2016 Posted September 3, 2016 Hah, yeah this is super cute. Nice work Xigfrid! Super cool. Quote
arbit Posted September 3, 2016 Posted September 3, 2016 If I can get one... I didn't made it during the pre-orders. Someone hook this man up with a VF-31. Quote
Xigfrid Posted September 8, 2016 Author Posted September 8, 2016 Yellow can came and I finished the yellow areas. I also added a few "aluminum" details. Now, it's play time until everything dries completely so I can color the darker details other the light layer safely. Quote
mickyg Posted September 8, 2016 Posted September 8, 2016 It looks phenomenal! Great work there, my friend! Quote
Xigfrid Posted September 14, 2016 Author Posted September 14, 2016 Thank you guys! Found an old rubber ear bud lying, I used it to make the legs stiffer. Now the Workroid has a more "toy feel"... This works great! I also made the logo sticker and applied it: Quote
Xigfrid Posted September 14, 2016 Author Posted September 14, 2016 So little time tonight for the workroid... only a few updates: canopy installed, but I will probably cut another one later, and all 4 hidrolic cylinders installed: one for each arms and feet. Quote
Tage Posted September 16, 2016 Posted September 16, 2016 Oh wow yeah those cylinders on the arms and legs look great! Nice work Xigfrid! Quote
neko_fr Posted September 16, 2016 Posted September 16, 2016 Superb! Too bad it isn't in 1/72 :-) Great work!! Quote
Xigfrid Posted September 18, 2016 Author Posted September 18, 2016 Workroid heard lately that the bird human was back in delta! Last bits of detailling on the rear... Quote
505thAirborne Posted September 19, 2016 Posted September 19, 2016 The folks at Bandai & Arcadia are feeling a bit jealous of your impressive skills!! The Workroid turned out amazing, excellent job Xigfrid!!! Quote
Xigfrid Posted September 19, 2016 Author Posted September 19, 2016 I must say thank to all the great comments and encouragement posts. As the workroid is now considered done, I will try to make a photoshoot soon and I will update the 1st page with all the most important details of the built. Quote
trojan_gambit Posted September 20, 2016 Posted September 20, 2016 By the way, how do you create the sketchup 3D file ? Do you use the 3-view drawing as reference ? Quote
Xigfrid Posted September 20, 2016 Author Posted September 20, 2016 By the way, how do you create the sketchup 3D file ? Do you use the 3-view drawing as reference ? 3-view is a must: it can prevent you to go off the dimensions or guide you to the perfect curves. Unfortunately there is no schematics for the for the Workroid so I had to make one from scratch. Quote
electric indigo Posted September 20, 2016 Posted September 20, 2016 I just noticed that the Workroid has the double antennae inherited from the Aliens Power Loader. These seem to be a requirement on these types of machines... (In Aliens, the antennae were actually cables used to suspend the full size prop from the soundstage ceiling) Quote

These seem to be a requirement on these types of machines... (In Aliens, the antennae were actually cables used to suspend the full size prop from the soundstage ceiling) Too bad that the Workroid wasn't featured more in the TV show... Perhaps we will see more in the movie (if it ever comes) Quote
Xigfrid Posted September 22, 2016 Author Posted September 22, 2016 I have been lazy lately so the quality of the shots are very low due to poor lightning conditions and the phone camera... I have also updated 1st post accordingly. Quote
Xigfrid Posted September 22, 2016 Author Posted September 22, 2016 (edited) Thanks derex3592! I got my stuff out and finally had a few good shots of the workroid This is when I am realizing that I am spamming this thread with photos... Sorry guys! Edited September 22, 2016 by Xigfrid Quote
mickyg Posted September 22, 2016 Posted September 22, 2016 The photos are beautiful - Spam away! Plus, it's your thread and your creation. I think you've earned the right to post as many shots as you want. You'll hear no complaints from me, that's for sure! Quote
charger69 Posted September 23, 2016 Posted September 23, 2016 Spamming with tons of pictures encouraged! Quote
MechTech Posted September 26, 2016 Posted September 26, 2016 I think the purpose of the thread is mostly photos. It looks great! If this was a feasable project, your work would be used to help sell it to actual buyers. - MT Quote
arbit Posted September 27, 2016 Posted September 27, 2016 And since it's the only model of its kind, and likely the only we will see for a long time, keep the photos and diorama displays comin'. Quote
