So, if the artwork isn't going to be shipped outside of Japan anyways then the $60 version is the one to go with? Just wanna make sure before I commit =)

It would be to get the special box that only holds 3 bd's (disappointing when they want an extra 2300 yen for it) and some special artwork cards (not the bonus one).

MF had two boxes that would hold the entire 9 volume set when finished ( i missed the second box, which was the one I really wanted afterall :( )

The special MF movie box had enough room for the second MF movie, so when it cam out you could have the theatrical set in one box (very cool!)

I gather there will be a no frills release later on at some point. A single release box set has already been announced containing all 9 volumes, and a few members are waiting for that to hit in December.

If a disc only release is made available, I wouldn't be surprised to see it sometime next year, giving access to the show to those who are extra patient or on a very strict budget.

That is something I'd be more into. A complete series set without all the extras. I just want the show with its official subs and not in 9 different purchases.

Good, good. Except that the default position is smallish white text on the bottom. I thought I saw alternative options for that in the menu, but didn't investigate further...

Some minor weirdness: Var is "Vár." They didn't try to convert "rune pika" into anything else. Etc.

But the official subs do go to the effort of suggesting that Freyja occasionally lapses into a weird accent, and they even provide the song lyrics.

The official subs... end up seeming like a decent fansub. Obviously you-know-which-subgroup's bonus profanity isn't there (and the songs are translated slightly less porny), but the official version reads pretty naturally.

Still no pics of set, though =(

Check out the first post. : ) The set I received from cdjapan this weekend is exactly the same as the amazon.jp sample images posted by UN Spacy. You get the box for the first three discs, the first blu-ray in a special slip case, a digipak-style case for the BD with a cover featuring Hayate Immelman, and an art booklet.

Less porny ha! :lol:

Some minor weirdness: Var is "Vár."

I assume Vár is meant to be a reference to the Norse goddess of the same name. She is associated to oaths, promises and marriage. If you broke a "Vár promise", you would be struck down be the wrath of the goddess, so you really had to keep that promise. Vár in the series is a form of mind control, so I can see the connection.

Wow, they really did go all the way with the Norse references.

First weeks sales are 8742 units according to Oricon. Not bad, but a lot less than Frontier sold back in the day.

9999 units if you count the DVDs. It's almost a cruel joke that none of the Spring 2016 shows managed to crack the 10,000 barrier in their first week of release. Still the top-selling first volume of the season so far, though.

Got mine last night and finally got to see Mission 03! Now begins the 2-month wait for the next pair I pre-ordered...

The package quality is amazing, easily the nicest box on my shelf. It also came with a 16-digit code thing I don't think I am likely to redeem, any idea what it's for?

So, what does Freyja officially say when Hayate finds her in the shipping container?

I've been suspicious about that "Going to the bathroom was hard..." line.

Just picked my copy at DHL. Very happy and impressed with Amazon's swift delivery and the reasonable shipping and customs fee.

still have a hard time understanding their pricing though. Are the 8424 yen versions and the 6265 version the same?

I've been suspicious about that "Going to the bathroom was hard..." line.

"You're already 14! I won't allow you to waste the rest of your life! You'll marry the apple farmer's second son!" said the Mayor.

I told him, "No" but he said "This is not negotiable!"

So I mustered up enough courage to sneak aboard a ship.

Now my butt hurts and going to the bathroom, well...

Oh! Where are my manners?! I'm Freyja Wion.

I am so truly... truly... starving!

The other infamous line, Japanese doughnuts/onigiri, totally dodged localization and became "Thanks for sharing your lunch."

~~~
On another topic, I finally noticed that in addition to the usual 0.89 and broadcast versions of the first episode, they did their own hybrid edit with all of the 0.89 scenes and the full broadcast ending. Of course that was probably in the documentation and I just never paid attention.
But that's the thing. I ordered the 6265 yen version (which was down in price from 8424) and got the art booklet, the illustrated box with space for 2 more BD's and the Hidetaka Tenjin case (plus the 0.89 ep and the sheet with the codes). Is that the standard then? Is the limited only the stuff with the codes that we gaijin-kuns cannot get anyway?
I think something got lost in the English translation because all Delta box sets are being marketed as limited edition sets, no matter where I look.
Here are the amazon.jp links for disc 2:
Using the funky machine translator, I notice that amazon.jp is identifying the expensive disc as the "special equipment limited edition" which will get Japan residents the bonus A4-size artwork. The less expensive disc is the "limited edition" with no description of the special bonus artwork.
And on the macross.jp site, there is even more detail, showing that different stores are receiving different bonus incentives. In other words, there are multiple special limited editions and local residents shopping at locations other than amazon.jp will get different Delta schwag depending on where they decide to buy their discs.
Thanks Technoblue. That makes sense. This is why sometimes even though Amazon has lower prices and very convenient shipping/tax options, I prefer the readability of CDJapan.
I now know how to preorder the rest.
I wish they had also subtitled the Macross database extras. :(
I wonder why this isn't common.
The code is basically a raffle number you enter online for a chance to win a ticket to the SOLD OUT Walkure concert in September.
If you don't have a use for it, I know a handful of fans here that didn't get tickets. Most of the SpeakerPODcast members got their tickets except Egan and a few Japanese fans we know are still trying to get a ticket. Seto kindly donated his code recently, fingers crossed. Anyways, if you or anybody else here would like to donate their code we could use them to help their chances.
Of course no good deed goes unrewarded. Anyone who donates their code whether it's a winner or not, I will help them obtain any Macross item (no proxy fee) they are looking for or purchase any limited concert goods for them while at the concert.
PM me for details, deadline to submit the codes is this coming Friday (Thursday US).
To clarify, you're talking about the 8 digit numeric code on the SANKYO presents 戦術音楽ユニット ワルキューレ 1st LIVE in Zepp "Walkure Attack!" voucher, right, not the BVC 16 digit registration code? PMed, you can have mine.
Everyone, thanks for all the help.
Yes, we need the SANKYO presents 戦術音楽ユニット ワルキューレ 1st LIVE in Zepp "Walkure Attack!" voucher number only.
Hello Save, I might be in Tokyo on September 10. Hope you get plenty of extra concert tickets to spare for beggars like me so I can join you guys and meet the rest of the SpeakerPODcast crew.
But just the same, I will send you my SANKYO voucher number in a while. Please check your PM.
I'll submit your code for you since you'll be in Tokyo. If your number gets pulled then it's your ticket. Either way, yeah, we can all hand out.
