I'm questioning if this is a New Macross Class as Roid said 40 years ago. That would make it 2027. Macross 1 left in 2030. Unless of course he was fudging numbers. If he isn't maybe a class between the Megaroad and City class which had the capacity for a million excess population.

Well if Windemer was contacted 40 years ago, then a Megaroad ship would be likely and the Dulfin class escorts establish that they were the common ships of the line for that era, considering the Galaxy left around the same time. Ragna having an early NM Class City ship would make its contact at least 4 years later as the New Macross 1 didn't launch until 2030, so if that fleet that reached Ragna is indeed the NM 1, then it would have lauched no earlier than 2030. For the sake of argument, they followed a beacon provided by the Megaroad 6, then it is reasonable to expect it to take perhaps up to a year to arrive from Earth on the other corner of the galaxy, so that puts us at 2031.

As for the Windemer fighter, I would not be surprised if Spacy provided the specs of the SV-52 for the Windemer to develop their own fighters on. An older tech, inferior to the VF-4 or whatever fighters they were flying by the time they arrived, but effective for planetary defense. Maybe the dispute that launched the rebellion was a lack of technology sharing on the part of the UNG? A broken agreement to share technology for self defense.

As for the comment that the NUN didn't care Windemer left the federation is probably incorrect. They would have faced a choice; invade and institute NUN rule or allow the Windemerians to be an autonomous world. Since the NUN isn't in the business of empire building they let them leave and essentially cut them off from the other federated worlds. They still trade with them, but there are no formal government relations anymore it seems. A bit of a pariah in the region, somewhat like North Korea.

The white patches on the skin appear to be how the Windemere show their age, not necessarily scaring as some have speculated. The King has quite a few patches and he appear to be quite old.

As for Hayate's showboating, all I can say is only a GERWALK can "skate" on water!! :D

This episode is mostly a set up episode full of exposition. A lot of backstory and set ups for what is yet to come. Normally you don't devote a whole episode to this, but perhaps the action is going to get pretty fast moving forward and it was decided to get a lot of details out of the way first. .

The preview has me nervous... There appears to be a much feared return of the speaker pack, but that seems somewhat mitigated by some VF-31 FAST packs as well.

Max & Milia tribute

And Hayate do what Hikaru done for dating again, tribute again :)

Did you notice SK opted for the DYRL meeting as opposed to the knife fight? I guess even he found the knife fight a bit ridiculous...

We get it almost every night

When that moon is big and bright

It's a supernatural delight

Everybody's dancing in the moonlight

I thought the title was going to be a reference to that Scorpions song about a plane crash that goes

Dancing with the moonlight

Should have been an easy flight

But once in the air, halfway there, we went down

Dancing with the moonlight

Destination out of sight

And before we arrived we were back on the ground

Max and Milia likely kept that little anecdote off the official record. And left that little tidbit out when the girls asked.

How did you meet mommy?

Well, I asked your mom on a date and she tried to stab me and we got into a knife fight. We met during the war.

:D

What is that the VF-31, Hayate? MESSER'S 02 is carrying in the next ep!

Gives hope that the pod the 31 is carrying can be retrofitted!

Most interesting, not only a new pod as well (looks like a sound booster to me). But also wing-mounted super packs, that we've only briefly glimpsed on Chuck's VF-31E back in mission 0.89 & 1.

Since the revolutionary war happened 7 years ago it could be reaction to Macross Galaxy's attempt at taking over the galaxy a year before with the Vajra.

It gave xenophobes in Windermere an opportunity secede from the NUN.

Actually it turns out they Windemerians were feeling exploited and went to war to end it in their declaration, but behind the scenes it looks like they consider themselves the heirs to the PC and it is their right to "lead" the region down the "correct" path. Yep, sounding more and more like Nazi Germany to me... Now seeing a flock of Vajra suddenly defolding in your backyard may have been part of the story, but we'll have to wait and see if it is.

Yeah, Roid has a Sv that hanger. In silver too. Now that we see the king of Windermere, I see the same scaring as the older Knights.

Unfair trade treaties sounds like a flimsy excuse, too. "Heirs to Protoculture" also seems flimsy. Humans, Zolans, Zentradi, Ragnans and even Windermeans are all heirs to Protoculture.

I bet the Windermerans never knew what that fold-wave transmitter was until the colonists came. After that, I'm sure they found out what it really is and what it could do. Then came the grand ideas of a lunatic.

Not sure how rankings work in a PMC...I think the fansubbers got a few things incorrect.

kohosei = cadet (Hayate in episode 3)

chui = lieutenant (Messer calls Hayate this in episode 5) NOT sergeant

shoi = ensign (Messer calls Mirage this in episode 5)

But I thought lieutenants outrank ensigns.

Some things are made clear. Brisingr refers to the star cluster where Windermere, Ragna and possibly other Sub-Protoculture worlds are located.

While Roid cites unequal treaty and monopoly of profits the real reason is that Windermere wants to prove they are the legitimate heir of the Protoculture not humans. Which is funny because the AI recognized Earthers due to their hybrid Mylene.

Also as pointed out by Roid the strategy they are doing has flaws as it is detrimental to Heinz's health. Again Keith points out they are running out of time.

A ceasefire between the NUN and Windermere happened when the later used a dimensional weapon that cause a dimensional barrier on the planet.

My guess is that they fraked-up that Windermere has little time to survive. Hence these invasions. They are too prideful to ask for NUN help.

Hayate has a Fold Receptor Factor somewhat thanks to his Fold Quartz. All the Walkure and he agree they heard somebody. In Hayate's case he felt it.

Freyja relates to a Windermeran legend of Wind Singer that is able to project across light years and dimensions. This has happened before namely Basara Nekki and Emilia Jenius. Mirage doesn't have the talent it seems unlike her aunts Mylene and Emilia. As Kaname said there is a mentality factor involved in the ability. Mirage needs to learn how to feel not think too much.

Neutral vote.

I think this was the strongest episode so far. It just that a fantasy kingdom seems like it should belong in different anime. Same thing goes for girl band with super powers. Take everything that was popular with anime fans that liked Frontier. Mix it up with some other popular anime genres and you have Delta.

I wonder if Mirage's memory mean that Delta exist in the same universe where DYRL was an actual historic events or has her memory has just been tainted by seeing it in movie form?

I feel like there was a missed opportunity for Mirage, she should've been the one to go after Hayate instead of Messer and probably pulled into his "dance" So far she hasn't been gaining any ground there.

Hayate immediately came to her defense this ep, so I'd say she's gaining a bit

I'm excited by this older sv fighter. Hopefully we see more of it.

Same! Was really excited when I saw it. Was not expecting a new random valk the episode after the Draken is fully revealed

Would suck if they accidentally pulled an Orguss on themselves. Instead of everything on the planet eventually getting fried, maybe frozen and without the time/space things happening? Some heirs they are.

Neutral vote because I thought the Knights missed an opportunity to get rid of a nuisance to their plans. Unfortunately, they apparently decided to act like knights for once.

Dude Kawamori has been wanting to do this since Air Calvary Chronicles, his original idea for Escaflowne. VF knight mechs instead of just steampunk knight mechs.

Just watched the episode myself, pretty good I think! Then again I enjoy exposition usually. Especially political intrigue exposition.

I know there is going to be more to Messer revealed at some point but right now he just comes off as a total ass. I really hope whatever backstory he has that will surely be the subject of a focus episode puts it into perspective.

I'd also like to see an episode devoted to fully showing the conflict 7 years ago from Arad's viewpoint. More than likely this will happen in some form too, even if just a few flashbacks.

They definitely gave some Hayate and Frejya points this time but I know Mirage will get her chance. Though obviously none of them see it yet either way. They are slow building this triangle. Either way, shipping Mirage and Hayate already cause I always liked the more mature and grounded choices (just so happens that those are also the ones that tend to win, heh).

I guess, freyja would be able to use the ruins better than heinz. perhaps the ruins function differently according the one who sing, heinz song seems sad song thus it "create" var syndrome. but if someone (in this case freyja) sing a happy song or with positive emotions perhaps the result would differ

I wonder if there's a double-edge sword to it. Heinz's song is a "sad" song. He's making others sick and at the same time, spreading his own illness within himself. He's exasperating whatever condition he has.

So either A) that device requires a tremendous amount of willpower which Heinz doesn't have or B) that device works two-fold; it heightens whatever state the user is in. In Heinz's case, it's accelerating his deteriorating health..

Either way, continued used of that device will kill Heinz.

exactly, heinz will get killed or fatally ill. they will look for other person that can replace him. a heartbreaked freyja would enough or perhaps has ability to spell more power to the var spread across galaxy

This episode made me loathe Messer, and yet I have a feeling there's a backstory we'll probably get to see that justifies his attitude. Until then, I'm really hoping someone lays him out.

Also very curious about Freyja's experience during the war 7 years prior. They've shown a flashback of her standing in front of a burning structure at least twice I believe, and she mentions the war by saying "not again" this episode. Looking forward to seeing her backstory as well.

Yeah, I'm not crazy about Messer either, but he does make some good points about Hayate. The latter is terribly irresponsible, does whatever he like including going on joyrides in times of war. A lot of the characters are really growing on me (Freyja, Mirage, Makina, Kaname and even some Windermereans) but not Hayate. He is still a bit of an empty slate and has the whole "World bend yourself to me" thing going which I don't like (Basara is different. He was a natural force).

Is it just me or did the animation quality in this episode decline a bit? Not so much the flying scenes, but the detail in the faces of the characters when conversing seems to have gone south. I suppose they want to keep the budget up for the mecha porn.

Ragna and Windemere never had a choice in alien intervention. I see Windremere and Ragna like Native Americans and Polynesians who werr visited by colonizers. No matter the intenition Spacy had bearing down on primitives is going to have severe consrquences. Windemerians probably see their own culture disappearing and assimilating to the Aliens. "uplifiting" is a more modern term of colonization.

ragna seems dont have grudge on NUNS/UNG like the winderemerean. why? is there some effects caused by the "uplifting" that make winderemere secede? or in this case they think they only regain their independence from UNG

The Kingdom of Wind seems to be Macross' answer to Zeon. We are doing this for Independence! (They are already independent.) We will free all out our fellow Brisingr cluster planets! (Commit terrorism then invade them taking away their culture.)

Now the real reason is damn those Earthers it is we who should rule as we are the legit heirs of the Protoculture and our people need planets as that dimension weapon we used doomed our world and we are running out of time.

Know what I've seen this before with Frontier's politicians instead of asking the NUN for help they proceeded to invade another race's planet out of desperation and pride.

Because the colonists in Macross 1 were all a bunch of cat lovers who immediately gained the favor of our umineko overlords.

EDIT: Screencaps of the grandparents if anyone's interested.

Messer is my favorite character and in my opinion he was completely in the right and let Hayate off lightly. Hayate took a VF out on an unorthodox joyride.

He's allowed to. When he signed up he said to Arad "Im just gonna do what I want" and Arad said "Yeah, ok." If hayate isnt allowed to do it how could he get Freyja into a flight suit, get the fighter out and ready, take off and fly around awhile without anyone radioing or saying something? I think Messer was probably just brooding out the window and saw him out there.

Info episode, which is fine. SOme real off model shots this week, bu some nice animation too. Decent watch

I do wonder if the dimensional barrier on Windermere is similar to the Ouroboros aurora where there are fold faults.

If so NUNS can't make a first strike as it negates fold drives... Unless Chaos has Fold Dimensional Resonance System on their VF-31s. As the VF-31 was based on the YF-30.
