Zinjo Posted April 11, 2016 Posted April 11, 2016 (edited) it was! Nope, it was the Arm Carrier from the Elysium. They made sure the audience saw the CV/C-109 on the side of the ship and then you see it again when on Ragna re-attached to the Elysium. Very cool use of the tech IMO. kajnrig Posted April 11, 2016 Posted April 11, 2016 Not sure if this has been asked and answered already, but on Ragna(?), the Elysium stands under its own power. Was the original SDF-1 ever capable of that? I want to say but don't remember that there was talk about it not being able to support itself in Storm Attack mode under gravity. I'm sure overtech has advanced since then to allow Macross-class ships to do so now, even if they're a Quarter(?). While I'm asking, is it (SDF-1) still half-submerged in an artificial lake? Quote
Zinjo Posted April 11, 2016 Posted April 11, 2016 (edited) That kind of looks like just the carrier arm un-docked from the rest of the ship. That is exactly what it is. What throws everyone off is the deck is split and tilted, but that is indeed an undocked Arm Carrier. It has the same ID Code as the Elysium CV/C 109. I expect the engines fold inside the body when docked to the mothership. Edited April 11, 2016 by Zinjo Quote
Zinjo Posted April 11, 2016 Posted April 11, 2016 Satellite is really getting into their groove marrying the CG with the other animation, me likes! I liked the OP, but then again I wasn't expecting to be moved to tears by it either. The Episode was better paced. A lot more exposition, but the activity kept it from becoming a series of talking heads scenes. I like the characters so far. A lot less cookie cutter and more complex than Frontier characters and I like frontier a lot, so that says something. SK gave us gear heads a lot of mecha loving by showing us beauty shots of all the valks so far, including the VF-31A. The show looks like it is going to be fun. I am hoping for some interesting revelations to add the universe. Not sure if this has been asked and answered already, but on Ragna(?), the Elysium stands under its own power. As of Frontier it still was. You got quick shot of it as Grace initiated her simultaneous attack on Spacy with the Vajra. I don't recall the episode # off hand though. Quote

Battle 7 did it in the final episodes of Macross 7. Macross Quarter too in the last episode of Macross Frontier. In SDF Macross episode 27 the Macross was about to land on storm attack mode as Misa and Hikaru watches it descend. Quote

kajnrig Posted April 11, 2016 Posted April 11, 2016 Will catch up on the past three pages tomorrow. In the meantime, some initial thoughts: I bet at least some of those girls and/or names are paying homage to AKB or Idolmaster, etc. Also, surprise VF-1! I'm actually more excited for this than anything else coming up. For those interested, here are the frames VLC was able to get of the SV-262's transformation. (By the by, any suggestions on file/image hosting sites so that I don't keep using the forum's bandwidth?) Quote
mickyg Posted April 11, 2016 Posted April 11, 2016 Nice grabs there Kajnrig! I think it's a Gerwalk and not some new form of Battroid. I don't think it'd make sense to go halfway to full Battroid and simply stop there - cool "new" mode notwithstanding. The legs and arms are too well thought out for it to not have a fully chest/head transformation. Quote
d3v Posted April 11, 2016 Posted April 11, 2016 The part where. Freyja starts singing during her "Var outbreak" gave me chills. Reminds me of Ranka breaking out in song in episode 5 of Frontier. Quote

d3v Posted April 11, 2016 Posted April 11, 2016 If you noticed, it is not even the full transformation. It is only to GERWAK Seems that they're hiding what the Battroid mode looks like since even in the episode, it was only shown in Gerwalk as well. Quote
RedWolf Posted April 11, 2016 Posted April 11, 2016 Subs are out! Interesting stuff. As I guessed the Aerial Knights are on a tight schedule. Of what I don't know yet. Windermere won its war for independence and has tight ban on Earth culture. Freyja may not be able to go home. Space-Time Resonance ability coined in Macross Chronicle is a mouthful so they shortened those with that power like Basara, Sara, Mao, Sheryl and Ranka as Fold Receptor Factor. Freyja is almost as strong as Mikumo. Quote
anime52k8 Posted April 11, 2016 Posted April 11, 2016 Seems that they're hiding what the Battroid mode looks like since even in the episode, it was only shown in Gerwalk as well. With all this secrecy I'm starting to actually by into the crazy conspiracy theories about the battroid mode. Maybe it really does have an animal mode or combiner limb mode instead of a battroid mode. Quote
Graham Posted April 11, 2016 Posted April 11, 2016 Only watched the opening and ending so far. Hopefully will have time to download and watch episode 2 in the next few days. Still don't like the songs. I just don't find them catchy at all. Far prefer the songs in Frontier to Delta. Liked quite a bit of the opening animation, as quite a lot of VF stuff going on. The 31 is really growing on me, can't wait for the toys. Disliked the ending animation as no VF stuff going on. Graham Quote
UN Spacy Posted April 11, 2016 Posted April 11, 2016 Anyone notice a New Macross Class ship attached to the City Block on Planet Laguna? Or was it the Elysium that was attached to it? Quote
d3v Posted April 11, 2016 Posted April 11, 2016 Anyone notice a New Macross Class ship attached to the City Block on Planet Laguna? Or was it the Elysium that was attached to it? Seemed to be an older, smaller city block, similar to 7 where building would poke through the dome. Also, there didn't seem to be an actual Macross Class ship attached to it, so it's could likely be the Elysium's. Quote
wmkjr Posted April 11, 2016 Posted April 11, 2016 (edited) Love these spoiler tags: We get to see what looks like the 2 remaining SV-262 pilots in the OP. One an older gentleman we saw in the 1st and one I'll call Messer's older brother since he got the same hairdo with a ponytail? Also, I guess Windmerians don't debate on how the SV valks landing gears should look like or where they are . Edited April 11, 2016 by wmkjr Quote
Marzan Posted April 11, 2016 Posted April 11, 2016 The good: Like that we've been given the first snippets of a background to Windermere and it's relations to Earth. I kinda enjoy that we're not in a convoy setting but in proper planets for once. A lot of good looking mecha and exciting possibilities for combat in the future. Mirage and Hayate hate each others guts so much at this moment that I think only Misa and Hikaru can compare. The bad: I think the music is rather bland to be honest. Other than Ikenai, nothing really sticks. I hope this improves in future chapters. Quote
seti88 Posted April 11, 2016 Posted April 11, 2016 (edited) What do you thk abt Mirages..... Mirages catseal? Or is it a kittenseal? Looks a bit smaller than the other catseals.. As with the whole concept of delta with expanded emphasis on the walkure... I think kawamori is risking a lot of appeal based on the strength of the music/songwriting to lift the show... There were scenes in ep 2 where i found this to be reflective of the mood/direction, which made its mark for me During freya's test, where she sang love halation, you could feel her vulnerability. But she summoned her courage thru examples of acts of bravery and mustered her courage to sing in the sight of danger. And hayate, a drifter but knowing and feeling the wind, trusting himself to the wind to carry him back to safety. Astonishing even arad and messer. This with the acappella singing of love halation, was i thk the key point of the episode for me. (even more than the sight of 31A ) I sense its kawamori's way of saying to all the fans.....go with the flow and see where risks take you. Focus on courage and let music flow through your heart! .. RedWolf Posted April 11, 2016 Posted April 11, 2016 Since Wind is a theme in Delta I remember the response Basara gave Graham as to why he came to Zola... The Wind brought him there. Quote
JB0 Posted April 11, 2016 Posted April 11, 2016 And of course, there's catfish. What madness hath science wrought?! And Hayate's allergic to them. I'm not even sure how that works, shouldn't the waterlogged fur keep the fish dander out of the air? Dear god, fish dander? What am I even typing? I can't say I really care for the opening or ending at this point, though it's possible they will grow on me. Quote

zaino Posted April 11, 2016 Posted April 11, 2016 that last sequence Heck, that entire sequence was pretty much everything Macross is about. Quote
JB0 Posted April 11, 2016 Posted April 11, 2016 They are called... Umineko. Normally it'd mean seagulls but here it means Seacats. It is really weird that that visual pun works in both languages, especially as it goes in very different directions. Quote

d3v Posted April 11, 2016 Posted April 11, 2016 So will we start using "Deculture" as a unit of measure for size now? Quote
Mommar Posted April 11, 2016 Posted April 11, 2016 Watching Macross for fights alone misses the point of the show. He can like whatever he wants to like about the show. If it's only Kawamori's fighter designs and the choreography of the fights involved that's his prerogative. Quote
MisaForever Posted April 11, 2016 Posted April 11, 2016 Oh gawd! Mirage is so deliciously tsundere. Quite. The tsunderest! Quote
RedWolf Posted April 11, 2016 Posted April 11, 2016 (edited) You'd have to wonder if the Protoculture liked cats. Zola has marsupial cats, Ragna has Seacats and whatever planet that Catgirl comes from. While the Galaxy Treaty forbids invasion of intelligent species planets the NUN doesn't have it seems a Non-Interference Prime Directive. Spreading Humanity's culture wherever it'd be. Windermere seems to be a backlash at that going semi-isolationist. Given the current setup with the NUN being a EU like government respecting sovereignty there should be no conflict. However for some reason the Kingdom of Wind is resorting to terrorist attacks. Motivations is not clear yet. However they must realize their planetary forces can't stand against a combined fleet like the one we saw in Wings of Goodbye. Edited April 11, 2016 by RedWolf Quote

RedWolf Posted April 11, 2016 Posted April 11, 2016 Oh the horror at the realization Hayate and Mirage's relationship is reminding me of Isamu and Guld's relationship. . Quote
Valkyrie Driver Posted April 11, 2016 Posted April 11, 2016 Not bad, It keeps pace with episode 1 pretty well, it's got a fair amount of stuff happening. Would have liked to see a bit more Valkyrie action and little less magical girl silliness, but overall, I'm content. Quote
