^It's obvious Hamill clearly delights in playing the Joker character; whether or not he ever voices him again, and leaving aside Ledger's brilliantly unique rendition, Hamill has made the Joker his.

The whole Batgirl-thing was awkward. It added 30 minuites to the front end of the movie. After that it was TKJ straight through.

Terrible, terrible movie. Had the unfortunate experience of sitting through it last night, pretty damn bad, almost zero positives to say about it.

Yeah, this feels like a double-feature. I know that the film wants to give more emphasis on Batgirl, but they put way too much info on her - especially the really awkward relationship between her and Batman. As a result, Batman himself ends up being a background character of his own story.

As for the animation... they released this theatrically? The choppy framerates and lack of detail make this film made-for-TV material at most.

In the end, Batman: The Killing Joke is nowhere near the level of Batman: Mask of the Phantasm, Batman: Sub-Zero, and Batman: Under the Red Hood. It's just another animated Batman movie. And considering the source material it's based on, this is a disappointment.

Never even heard of the Killing Joke, as I'm just getting into comics and not so much Batman - as yet. Haven't seen it, and hearing reviews I more than likely won't.

I can understand them wanting to give Batgirl some backstory, especially if in the novel she doesn't have much.(?) It would certainly help garnering more sympathy for what eventually happens to her. But a sex story line...? With Batman..? Batman..?! A whole half hour would give time for her to triumph over some villain, a serial killer of young women or some sadist, and then at the end of that mini-arc, Batman's like 'yo Batgirl, great job!' It could even have been interspersed as backstory throughout the entire movie, rather than a thirty minute tack-on at the beginning. Then when Joker attacks her, then there's a whiplash of emotion, as she's brought from this tremendous high from Batman's praise and having her own victory over the Darkness, to the Joker just ripping that all away. That would have been so much better!

But instead, 'hey, sex!' With Batman. Really!? Sex is really just a tired trope that too many people fall back on when they can't think of anything else. Let pornos use sex as a plot point from now on!

If I'm ever interested in seeing it, I'll probably get the novel instead. Or watch the movie - if someone would be so kind as to chop off the first thirty minutes!

And maybe that's the way to go. Give us Batman, the Killing Joke - The Ultimate Edition! (Now with thirty less minutes!)

Never read the story but read summaries of it online before. I also watched clips of this movie on You tube.

I don't really understand things. It is an origin story of the Joker. He had a very bad day it drove him crazy. He now wants to make a point by proving to the world that anyone can lose their mind by having a really bad day. Gordon is test subject. He puts him through hell but Gordon doesn't break. Batman captures the Joker unharmed. Offers to help him and laughs that the Joker's joke.

Huh?

WTF doesn't he just kill the Joker already? Maybe an execution style murder would be hard for him to do but if Batman fought with deadly force the Joker would already be dead. I'm not buying this whole the Joker vs Batman is really a conflict about ideology. If Batman kills the Joker then the Joker wins. Okay kill the Joker and let him win. Better to let him have the last laugh then to have him keep murdering or disabling your side kicks and innocent people.

The movie was disappointing for all of the reasons others have said. It felt like I was watching the Batgirl movie. It was very badly disjointed for the most part. I think they could have had more to go on, he'll, you barely even see Bruce Wayne. They to show Batman had a human side, that he saw how he and the Joker was going to end up, but the mask just made it less human.

I would go so far as to say that Affleck did a better job compared to the Timm portrayal. Under the Hood was so much better.

Strangely enough, the bad press is what makes me WANT to watch it now. I think I can safely assume that it won't top The Return of the Joker or the The Dark Knight, both of which seem to adapt ideas from the original comic to film better.

Is it still only in theaters, or have they already released it on DVD/streaming?

The original graphic novel has the ambiguous ending of Bats and Joker laughing at the joke while the panels fade to the background. However, it fades to just Bats laughing, which implies that he strangled Joker to death. Edited by areaseven
