Looking forward to putting some time in over the long weekend. I don't have too many expectations as I've been avoiding the spoilers here and 'round the net. Basically, I'm going into 2202 like I did 2199: 1) to enjoy the new take 2) to see what parts of the OG story are still intact 3) to see what's changed. For my first pass, for instance, I usually try to catch if any of the animation was improved going from the VOD release to the physical on-disc release. Quote
blackconvoy_D01 Posted November 27, 2019 Posted November 27, 2019 (edited) 2199 pts. 1 and 2 @ $9.99 each 2202 pt. 1 @ $9.99 2202 pt. 2 @ $24.99 Each part at 13 episodes. My only conflict is do I want them in English dub or subtitles. Edited November 27, 2019 by blackconvoy_D01 Quote

I'm gonna wait till Black Friday for some deals before I buy. Edited November 27, 2019 by TangledThorns Quote

But @TangledThorns mad a good point; since I've seen most of Yamato subbed already; I can take a break and do dubbed. Edited November 27, 2019 by blackconvoy_D01 Quote

I haven't watched anything dubbed since Robocrap, which has essentially scarred me for life. But it's good to hear that dubbing is getting better, I might give it a try. Quote

I would rather have Kuwashima Houko voicing Mori Yuki. Edited November 27, 2019 by Hikaru Ichijo SL Quote
TangledThorns Posted November 27, 2019 Posted November 27, 2019 Try before you buy when it comes to dub or sub. I found some anime is way better dubbed, namely Knights of Sidonia. But you know, that's like my opinion man!! Quote
Dynaman Posted November 27, 2019 Posted November 27, 2019 For these particular dubs you can always go to funimation and stream an episode with commercials to see if you like it. I found the US VAs acceptable. Not great but not terrible. But the ability to watch a battle scene without reading dubs is well worth it for me. The third season of Star Blazers with the Speed Racer dub though... Quote
blackconvoy_D01 Posted November 27, 2019 Posted November 27, 2019 I've seen 2199 on vrv in sub and the movies in sub too. I got pt 1 of 2202 in dub. It's a good dub. I've never seen 2202 before. Quote
Dynaman Posted November 28, 2019 Posted November 28, 2019 Yamato 2199 is $20 for the whole thing now. And the first half of 2202 is $10. That is a good price even if I don't like 2202 (I already know I love 2199). So the $30 for the second half of 2202 is not a problem. For those that wait it will probably go down in price in a year. Quote
Dynaman Posted November 29, 2019 Posted November 29, 2019 Just watched the first dubbed episode of 2199 and the Voice Cast is better then I remember. No obvious zingers yet. Looking forward to watching the whole thing. Quote
Dobber Posted November 29, 2019 Posted November 29, 2019 I’ve actually really liked the dub for 2199 and 2202. I like that they sound like adults....not the typical 80’s voice cast where most of the people sound like kids and even the guys have higher pitched voices. Yuki’s English voice actress is a very nice voice for me. Kodai is strong as well. Chris Quote
Dobber Posted November 29, 2019 Posted November 29, 2019 Also, finally got around to watching the first half of 2202 thanks to it being on sale with Amazon. While the story is not as strong and tight as the 2199 adaptation, I am enjoying it still. Hopefully the next series will tighten things up a bit and ease off the “ship porn” a little....and this is coming from a guy that loves the ships and battles and such. Chris Quote
Dynaman Posted November 29, 2019 Posted November 29, 2019 Up to episode of 4 of 2199 (going to work my through all of both series). The only voice that is somewhat iffy is Analyzer. Not terrible but just doesn't seem to fit. Everyone else is doing a good job. This is also one of the very few times I remember where the actual words of the dub are better then the words of the sub in most cases. I'd also rate Shultz's VA as excellent in this one. Quote

TehPW Posted November 30, 2019 Posted November 30, 2019 It took a bit for me to accept the VAs for the dub... but they work for me. I especially enjoyed the gamelan VAs. When Domal is introduced, they did that initial speaking in Gamelan verbiage only switching to English later. I wonder if the VAs where smiling when they said "Flatten them!" in German? Quote

I've had the jp-bd of 2199 since whenever and have no intention of re-buying for the english-dubs. That said, did they make Analyzer in english sounds like a Dalek? It would be frickin' awesome if they did... Quote
Dynaman Posted November 30, 2019 Posted November 30, 2019 At $20 for all of 2199 I figured why not - I plan on switching to all streaming from now on anyway to boot. I have also confirmed that the episodes can be downloaded for viewing offline. Hurray for my upcoming flight. No Analyzer does not sound like a Dalek. That would have been acceptable if not exactly cool (the VA would not have had time to say all of Analyzer's lines at Dalek speed anyway) Quote

They did overdo the reverb on his voice though. Quote

oshanmacross Posted December 7, 2019 Posted December 7, 2019 For those building the 1/350 by Hachette, word of warning. Do not use cyano activator on any of the blue pieces, and I assume any other plastic parts. It attacks the plastic Quote
easnoddy Posted December 10, 2019 Posted December 10, 2019 Oh, that sucks. I've been using Tamiya Extra thin cement. It's worked very well thus far. I will probably work to put paper between panels to help reduce light bleed this weekend. Quote

Thankfully 1000 grit sandpaper and polishing with toothpaste saved the day For the light bleed I purchased some black 3M masking tape, hopefully heat won't affect it over time. GabrielV Posted December 29, 2019 Posted December 29, 2019 I noticed today my GX-86 was missing it's starboard side anchor piece. I guess it fell off the last time I was handling it and playing with the electronic features. Sadly, I'm pretty sure I vacuumed since then. So that little decorative anchor piece is most likely gone. Does anyone have any ideas on a replacement piece? Or am I likely SOL? Quote
Valkyrie Hunter D Posted January 21, 2020 Posted January 21, 2020 42 issues completed and this thing is already heavy. I can only imagine what an absolute unit the completed SBY will be. I'm so glad there are opportunities to test out the wiring and lights as we go. And so far, the lights and gimmicks are working as they should. The light for the wave motion cannon is MEGA bright. I didn't notice the subtle glitter on the surface of the main barrell until the wave motion gun lit up, creating a sparkly effect like it's charging-real nice touch there. But those anchors...that was a bigger PiTA than the teeny Cosmo Tiger. I accidentally jammed a metal pin deep under my fingernail while putting an anchor together. Good times. Anyhoo, I can't progress until the next shipment of issues come in . Quote
Dobber Posted January 21, 2020 Posted January 21, 2020 ^^ Nice! Finally finished 2202. Not as bad as I thought but the fleet/ship porn was a bit much...and this is coming from someone who LOVES that sort of thing. Motivations and history of the Gatlantians was a little confusing for me as was keeping track of the characters. I did enjoy Desler’s back story and motivations. Definitely going to build a 2202 refit and final battle refit Yamato to display with the 2199 version to display as an evolution of the ship display. Also have a Ginga and standard Andromeda class kits coming to kit bash into the Aquarius. I really love the EDF ships. Chris Quote
