JMBNaples Posted January 5, 2004 Posted January 5, 2004 I just got back into the Robotech / Macross stuff in the last few weeks. I loved Robotech as a kid. I really knew very little about the Macross versions - other than it existed. I watched the first 15 or so Robotech Saga episodes over recently and saw DYRL for the first time. Apparently Hikaru has had more than a few valks. Let me see if I get this right: The the VF trainer was used in the first episodes. Then he used a white and red VF-iJ. Here is where I am confused . . . . Later, he had both a VF 1S and VF 1A which one was in the tv show . . . which one from DYRL? Quote
PC Valkyrie Posted January 5, 2004 Posted January 5, 2004 Welcom to the boards. As you can probably figure out, this board is dedicated to Macross. You may find some members a bit harsh about Robotech, given its history with Harmony Gold. To answer your questions: In the Macross TV series (roughly the same as the Macross Saga in Robotech), Hikaru pilots 1) his fanjet 2) VF-1D 3) VF-1J (white) 4) VF-1S (Roy's yellow stripe) In DYRL, Hikaru pilots 1) VF-1A (red stripe) 2) VT-1 3) VF-1S (red stripe) Keep in mind that DYRL was originally (in 1984) intended to be a "retelling" of Space War 1, as depicted in the TV series. It was a high budget motion picture based loosely on the events from the TV series. Some events are altered. Later on, (in the early 1990's), it was deemed to be movie within the Macross universe made in 2031, as many fans complained about the inconsistencies between DYRL and the TV series, along with Macross 7. Think of DYRL as the VISUAL reference of how things should LOOK like (characters/mecha), but think of the TV series as the reference of the events that happened during Space War 1. Quote

JMBNaples Posted January 5, 2004 Author Posted January 5, 2004 was the low-vis ever on the tv show or movies? Quote
PC Valkyrie Posted January 5, 2004 Posted January 5, 2004 (edited) No, the low vis is a scheme thought up by a customomizer in Japan. Yamato loved it so much that they produced a limited edition 1/48 version for sale. However, there is some speculation that the low vis VF-1A might show up in the upcoming Macross Zero episodes, but this is not confirmed at all. Edited January 5, 2004 by PC Valkyrie Quote
Mechamaniac Posted January 5, 2004 Posted January 5, 2004 was the low-vis ever on the tv show or movies? No, but it may make an appearance in the last two episodes of the current Macross OVA. Macross Zero. That's pure speculation on some of our parts though.... And to clarify what Pfunk said, The standard Brown VF-1A fighter is commonly known here as the "Cannon Fodder", or the CF for short. Hence, the "cannon color" Quote
Blaine23 Posted January 5, 2004 Posted January 5, 2004 Don't forget that Hikaru also piloted the GBP-1J in the Macross series as well, just so you know. Quote
Göönk Posted January 5, 2004 Posted January 5, 2004 TV show : don't forget he wasted several VF-1J in TV series while he wasted only one Super-VF-1A in DYRL. Hikaru flies the yellow VF-1S after Roy's death. -- In DYRL : super VF-1A (red+black stripe) -> it becomes a simple VF-1A (inside macross with Skull squadron on the heatshield) then Super VT-1 (space) -> simple VT-1 (on Earth) then Strike VF-1S (red+black stripe with Skull logo on the heatshield) Quote
Nightbat Posted January 5, 2004 Posted January 5, 2004 don't forget he wasted several VF-1J in TV series while he wasted only one Super-VF-1A in DYRL. actually, the VF-1A wasn't wasted in DYRL, that one was safe in the flight deck, while he was out wrecking the VT-1 (together with Roy taking his 1S apart) survived the Meltrandi attack on the SDF and was passed on to another Redshirt-to-be But I can't believe you all forgot his....: Magic Bicycle !!! ewilen Posted January 5, 2004 Posted January 5, 2004 In DYRL, we're really not told if Hikaru's VF-1A survives the crash after he saves Minmay. I'd guess it's at least mostly salvageable. But he may well have been assigned a new one after they were rescued. And he was still flying a VF-1A after he and Misa were rescued. This could well be (yet another) new plane since he was MIA and probably presumed dead for quite a while. I doubt his plane was kept in storage for him. JMBNaples please note: the VF-1D from the first couple episodes is not a trainer. Look here. I started a thread a while back in which we tried to list all the aircraft each major character flew in the series, including replacements for wrecked planes. Here it is. Also, welcome to Macross World! Quote
Göönk Posted January 5, 2004 Posted January 5, 2004 But I can't believe you all forgot his....:Magic Bicycle Rick even used a Regult ! (when he escaped the Zentraedi ship) Quote
Draykov Posted January 5, 2004 Posted January 5, 2004 Don't forget that Hikaru also piloted the GBP-1J in the Macross series as well, just so you know. Though, I don't think that would be considered a different Valk any more than a VF-1A with FAST packs would be considered different from a standard VF-1A. The GBP was still mounted on a VF-1J. Quote

And he really didnt pilot it as much as just take it without asking, watch some Minmay porn from inside the cockpit, and basically get 0wn3d by the Zentraedi scout ship. Quote
