seti88 Posted March 10, 2016 Posted March 10, 2016 Is it too presumptious or too soon to ask will this be chogokinized? The nuns eye looks like a low visibility US insignia...if u squint.. Quote
neoexcaliber Posted March 10, 2016 Posted March 10, 2016 It will happen and it will have exploding legs this time. Quote
seti88 Posted March 10, 2016 Author Posted March 10, 2016 (edited) Ah perhaps its a CF gimmick? Come to thk abt it, one reason to release this would be to fix the exploding triangles..then you would have a perfect 171 CF. (altho not in blue) I wonder how many would fork up for another 171CF tho... Edited March 10, 2016 by seti88 Quote
chyll2 Posted March 10, 2016 Posted March 10, 2016 well if they can produce another head, why not. At least make it single turret design. Quote

Duymon Posted March 11, 2016 Posted March 11, 2016 I already have too many vf-171's :0 don't make me buy more lol Quote
seti88 Posted March 11, 2016 Author Posted March 11, 2016 They really do need to change first the colors of them sneakers. Seems like the theme of this valk is stripes, he might be out of place with shoes. Didnt notice this before but even the back edges of the fighter mode wings are in white stripes.. Quote

Chronocidal Posted March 14, 2016 Posted March 14, 2016 (edited) *I don't even look at my 171's anymore, they've been laying in pieces in my spare parts bin ever since the knees exploded. Fixed. Edited March 14, 2016 by Chronocidal Quote
Kanedas Bike Posted March 14, 2016 Posted March 14, 2016 Fixed. LOL - well as long as we keep a sense of humor about it. -b. Quote
Duymon Posted March 15, 2016 Posted March 15, 2016 Man ever since I spent 150 bucks on 10 pairs of high res triangles at shapeways my VF-171 fleet has been totally fine....well..except for the two perma fighter-mode dudes with busted knees Quote
Xigfrid Posted March 16, 2016 Posted March 16, 2016 ... except for the two perma fighter-mode dudes with busted knees I didn't think the knees were a common issue. I already saw the fault: the assembly of one pin in the knee is reversed and this is making the knee to crumble from inside. I was missing a measurement to finalize the Shapeways design, measure which is difficult to obtain from a "ok" knee, but obviously easy once the knee is broken, I had a guy in MP for this matter but never got the answer. So if you want to, send me a pm and I would try to make the fix quick (well not now, but feasible in a week or so I believe) Quote
Sildani Posted March 16, 2016 Posted March 16, 2016 Jeez, even these CFs are going for around $200 on eBay. Ridiculous. Quote

I still found one for 20,000 in Mandarake right after they were released, however (retail is 24800) The 171 Exes all are solid with no exploding parts so they are all safe to buy. The CF's are hit and miss hehe. Whenever I feel like buying another I have to factor in the cost of buying shoulders off shapeways ($8-15 per pair depending on quality) I absolutely love the 171's and have a total of 18 VF 171's / 171 exes O_o Just wish they'd released the CF Ewacs version too :*( Edited March 17, 2016 by Duymon Quote
anime52k8 Posted March 17, 2016 Posted March 17, 2016 the Maruyama is the coolest set, and yet I could never justify buying something that's basically identical to the alto I already have accept for the cool tampograph on the back. Quote

derex3592 Posted March 17, 2016 Posted March 17, 2016 I'm kinda wishing I had picked that one up now. :-( Quote
ErikElvis Posted March 17, 2016 Posted March 17, 2016 It's so sad these had so many probs. These are one of my favorite releases. I bought three and they all had varying degrees of broken triangles. Quote
Duymon Posted March 17, 2016 Posted March 17, 2016 Pity it didn't come with the missiles. The Maruyama came with missiles, or are you talking about a different unit? Quote
Scyla Posted March 17, 2016 Posted March 17, 2016 (edited) The Maruyama came with missiles, or are you talking about a different unit? Maybe he meant the reaction missiles that came with the Armored Parts of the CF VF-171. Edited March 17, 2016 by Scyla Quote
koonfasa Posted March 17, 2016 Posted March 17, 2016 (edited) How were the shoulders on that one? I love that jet mode, and still need to fix my green one. Edited March 17, 2016 by koonfasa Quote
Scyla Posted March 17, 2016 Posted March 17, 2016 The shoulders should be unproblematic for all the EX releases (white with red/green/gray stripes). I also haven't heard any reports of a broken leg. Quote
Sildani Posted March 17, 2016 Posted March 17, 2016 Maybe he meant the reaction missiles that came with the Armored Parts of the CF VF-171. Exactly. Quote
Chronocidal Posted March 18, 2016 Posted March 18, 2016 I didn't think the knees were a common issue. So if you want to, send me a pm and I would try to make the fix quick (well not now, but feasible in a week or so I believe) The knee isn't exactly a common issue, but when it happens, it's usually a complete disaster. Mine broke into so many pieces, I could use it for confetti. It's really not so simple as a reversed pin, and the likelihood is, if you've broken the leg off, you probably need an entirely new knee joint, and the leg is so overglued together, you may destroy it worse trying to install a new knee. Quote
Xigfrid Posted March 18, 2016 Posted March 18, 2016 Based on the guy feedback, only one side of the knee assembly was crumbled. So the fix was to do a new part of the damaged side only. I don't remember well the details bc I don't have access to my computer files right now, I will have a look when I come back home Quote
Nekko Basara Posted March 18, 2016 Posted March 18, 2016 I have no 171s at all, and I'm really tempted by the relatively low prices on secondhand ones (on Jungle, Mandarake, etc.), particularly the RVF-171EX. Given the issues the Bandai 1/60 design had for some folks, should I take my chances on one of the existing releases, or wait and see if there is an improved version for Delta? I appreciate any opinions. Thanks! Quote
Scyla Posted March 18, 2016 Posted March 18, 2016 I like the design of the VF-171. It results in a much sleeker Batroid than the Yamato VF-17 for example. It has some bits that are maddening like the leg rotation that over engineered. Other than that I think the toy is good. The triangles shouldn't be a problem on the white VF-171EX toys. The key moment for was when I noticed that the main chunk of the torso actually locks into the spine of the toy. Before that the Battroid-Mode was a floppy mess. Afterwards it was quite enjoyable. This design is also a bit of a miss since you don't get the correct feedback from the mechanism. You can hear it click but the torso is still not locked into place. Other areas on the toy like the trap-door behind the chest armor, the collapsing strut under the cockpit and the mechanism for the manipulators are annoying but not half as bad as the video reviews show once you got the hang of it. The leg transformation really is the crux of this toy. It is terribly frightening because you think that you break the toy every time you handle it. Quote
seti88 Posted March 18, 2016 Author Posted March 18, 2016 I got the radome 171 cos its unique to have a triangular based 171 valk superimposed with a circular radome. Not to mention the long tail antennae.. I would wait to see if bandai comes up with a nice chogokin ala low vis version.. Quote
Nekko Basara Posted March 18, 2016 Posted March 18, 2016 If I could ask about the RVF-171 specifically, then, because it seems to have the least coverage online: Does the belly antenna/wing make it impossible to attach the gunpod? And does it prevent the backpack from locking down flush like the normal 171EX? Finally, are any of the new parts (the belly antenna or the radome mount) removable, or are they built-in changes to the mold? I love weird valks and that green-and-white color scheme is so sexy! Quote
anime52k8 Posted March 18, 2016 Posted March 18, 2016 the antenna gets in the way of the gunpod and the backpack sticks out at an angle if you leave it on. you can take the antenna off completely, but I'm not sure about the radome. anyways, I don't hate the VF-171, but I seriously question the mental stability of whoever designed it.
