IXTL Posted January 24, 2016 Posted January 24, 2016 VF-31J Siegfried (Hayate Custom) and VF-171 Nightmare Plus Both to be released in April. 540 yen each. Quote
mickyg Posted January 24, 2016 Posted January 24, 2016 I don't see scale but 10cm is mentioned. What's that, about 1/200? Quote
Major Focker Posted January 24, 2016 Posted January 24, 2016 assuming VF-31 is roughly same length as YF-30, then that's 1:188 VF-171 is 1:193 aargh! i was hoping these would be closer to 1:144 Quote
kajnrig Posted January 24, 2016 Posted January 24, 2016 From the Technology thread: Mecha Colle is...? Google's giving me the impression of gashopon-esque model kits??? I'm seeing lots of Yamato 2199. Quote
antibiotictab Posted January 24, 2016 Posted January 24, 2016 (edited) Meha Colle means ”Mecha Collection Series” as the thread title says. Non scale small kits. Like this one. The news says the prototype models of the Mecha Colles will be exhibited at the next Wonder Festival. Edited January 24, 2016 by antibiotictab Quote
Bariaburu Faita Posted January 24, 2016 Posted January 24, 2016 Yes, which results in frustrations like destroyers the same size as battleships. Skypoet Posted January 24, 2016 Posted January 24, 2016 Wonderful! I know that everyone is going to hate me for saying that, but I'd love Yamato to make VF-31's as gunpla's... transformable. Just like the VF025 and VF-27. I know they're unpopular here. But I just liked them. Quote

sketchley Posted January 25, 2016 Posted January 25, 2016 Well, I'm happy that we're getting a VF-171. It's a shame that they're going to be out of scale for the VF-25/VF-29 non-transformable fighter kits. Quote
David Hingtgen Posted January 25, 2016 Posted January 25, 2016 I think Bandai's being very smart here---this is a good way to squadron-build. Few people will both have the money, and be willing to spend it, on acquiring a half-dozen 1/60 DX's. But 540 yen each? You can easily have the whole squadron. Quote
kajnrig Posted January 25, 2016 Posted January 25, 2016 (edited) I don't think the 171 was ever released in model kit form, yes? This'll be a nice way to get one or more of them, maybe even scratchbuild a battroid/Gerwalk mode. And maybe holding the 31 in hand will help me warm up to it a little more... The closest we ever got was the VF-17 Fighter/Battroid comb set for Macross 7 - which just isn't the same! Quote
mechaninac Posted January 26, 2016 Posted January 26, 2016 The positive: Great quality molding with fantastic detail for the size... if 2199 kits and the 3D renders for the VFs being released are any indication. Bargain price that makes for an affordable opportunity for squadron building and all sorts of customization. The likelihood of a plethora of other Macross kits, from VFs to capital ships, in the future, and all for a pittance individually. The negative: Non standardized "box" scale. Similarly sized VFs should look fine next to each other, but smaller craft will look over-sized, and forget about ships matching.Overall, this announcement of Macross kits in the Mecha Collection line is, to me, most welcome. I'm all in. Quote
kajnrig Posted January 26, 2016 Posted January 26, 2016 What's people's experience (if any) with the previous kits? Parts separation, detail, holes/spaces need puttying, snapfit vs. gluing? Quote
electric indigo Posted January 26, 2016 Posted January 26, 2016 I have one of the Yamato Mecha Collection kits and it has all the detail you can possibly get into it at that scale, including super fine protruding fins and sharp edges. But 10 cm is really really small. Quote
Vifam7 Posted January 26, 2016 Posted January 26, 2016 At the very least, they could've scaled it to 1:144. orz Perhaps they don't want to conflict with Tomytec's line... Quote

Graham Posted February 3, 2016 Posted February 3, 2016 Hmm..........I'm gonna wait to see if these are snap-fix and molded in the correct colors before ordering. I'm crap at painting and model building in general, so if these require paint and glue, I'm out. But at this price point, my expectations are not high. Quote
UN Spacy Posted February 3, 2016 Posted February 3, 2016 Shouldn't the J-type head have two head lasers? Anyways...preorder...it'll look great on the work desk. Quote
Garfinkel Posted February 3, 2016 Posted February 3, 2016 Does anyone think they will be doing gerwalk and battroid for this line? Quote
Chronocidal Posted February 4, 2016 Posted February 4, 2016 Interesting.. but couldn't they just pick a scale and stick to it? It's not like the 1/100 kits were any fancier. I would have actually bought them at that scale. Quote
electric indigo Posted February 4, 2016 Posted February 4, 2016 The Cosmo Falcon & Zero from Yamato 2199 also were first released as Mecha Collection kits, before we got full 1/72 kits later. Maybe Bandai is just testing the water. Quote
Duymon Posted February 4, 2016 Posted February 4, 2016 I bet the vf-171 is more sturdy than the dx chogokin version Quote
David Hingtgen Posted February 5, 2016 Posted February 5, 2016 Not if they mold it entirely in black, and use stickers for the teal. Quote
Ghost Train Posted February 5, 2016 Posted February 5, 2016 I'm going to predict that the final product will be similar to the Yamato 2199 Mecha-Collection kits, Hobby Search has photos of the pristine runners (Cosmo Falcon in this case): http://www.1999.co.jp/eng/10295065 Quote
IXTL Posted February 7, 2016 Author Posted February 7, 2016 You can see the undeployed radome for Chuck's VF-31E's. Quote
kajnrig Posted February 7, 2016 Posted February 7, 2016 (edited) No cannon fodder 31? Dang. Everything else is looking sweet, though. All those panel line details... EDIT: Seems the release dates are...? Apr 2016 - VF-171 - VF-31J (Hayate) May 2016 - VF-31S - SV-262 Jun 2016 - VF-31E TBD - VF-31C - VF-31F I dunno the pilot names. Feel free to correct any wrong guesses I've made. Edited February 7, 2016 by kajnrig Quote
MechTech Posted February 7, 2016 Posted February 7, 2016 Thanks IXTL! The details do look great on those kits. - MT Quote
spanner Posted February 7, 2016 Posted February 7, 2016 Yeah they do look cool! And seeing they are so cheap I certainly wouldn't mind grabbing them all! Quote
kajnrig Posted February 7, 2016 Posted February 7, 2016 Anyone with better Japanese can give me the summary of Points 1-4? Quote
Graham Posted February 12, 2016 Posted February 12, 2016 While the panel lines look great on these, at the 500 Yen price point I'm not expecting too much in the way of pre-colouring and I expect markings will probably be foil stickers if Bandai's track record with small, low-priced kits is anything to go by.
